I'm a gold star member getting advertising all over the place.

Is this a temporary situation due to the recent disruption? This is happening on my IPhone.

It's getting closer.

Years ago, when what’s his name was in the Oval Office, there was talk of civil unrest. The bombastic comments from Republicans caused consternation among sanely minded people. As time went on, the realization of the GOP radicalizing our government became more apparent, with some on the right actually calling for execution of Democrats. We all read in disbelief during his first term.

Now, today, if you go down the list of the latest DU posts, you will see at least two posts about “going to war” and “cutting tethers to Trump supporters” - the thrust of which implied rough times ahead.

More and more we are now reading (in denial) that “war” with Republicans is a possibility - actual civil war. When Trump was first elected, I had predicted many things to my wife, most of which have been born out. I fear the days ahead as I see less and less middle ground. I pray (using the term as a generality) that the two sides can come to resolution, but it’s doubtful. Life as we have known it may change significantly in the days ahead, as the rhetoric is increasing, not diminishing. Acrimony from our side is now bubbling up. Our kid gloves are slowly being removed. The question is, how does society, in the manner we are accustomed to living, prepare for civil war?

When public outcry in the form of protests is met by masked, unidentifiable goons in all black uniforms

carrying AK 47s, it’s all over. Finito, If you want to throw me out of DU, I’ll feel bad, but it needs to be said that we’re watching a bonfire of our Constitution right before our eyes, the main thrust of which is yet to come. And what are Dems doing about it - writing to complain about TFG’s “promise” to lower the price of eggs. Fuck the price of eggs! Our country is dying here, right now. To act forcefully as time goes on will only become more difficult as he solidifies his fascist takeover!

Damn it, elected leaders, DO SOMETHING AND START IT SOON!

With regard to having a difficult time transitioning into a YouTube video from DU,

a simple solution is to just copy the headline of the video that you want to view, go to You Tube and paste it into the search window.

In my case, hitting the play button on the DU site directed me to “sign in to YouTube”, which I already was, then when in Youtube, the video in question never appeared. It became too frustrating to begin a search at that point. Copy and paste works just fine and it has kept my blood pressure down. 😜

Is this happening to everybody or just me?

When hitting on a post with a video, I’m taken to a screen that says I must sign in to YouTube to view the video.
First, I’m already signed in to YouTube at the time.
Secondly, when I hit it to “sign in” I am directed into a page of videos that have nothing to do with the one from DU that I wanted to see.
Am I the only one having this problem or is there a setting to get directly into YouTube to view a video, as I used to do for years.
I will not spend half of my morning chasing down a video.

Conversation with a reasonable Republican.

On our current trip to Switzerland, my wife and I took a small group tour - two couples and a beautiful guide. The other couple are from TX. She’s a Democrat and he’s a Republican.

Not wanting to stir the hornets nest, I chose to avoid politics, but that horse don’t run too long.

He is a former military man. What was surprising is that he said he wouldn’t vote for Trump. I honestly believe that there are a lot of Republicans who do in fact realize that the Trump is fucking crazy.

We agreed on many things. Surprisingly he had compassion for immigrants, at which point I said he had the attribute of “woke”. We agreed on border security, the security of our country and many more issues. I agreed with some of his beliefs as well.

All I can surmise is that there are a lot of Republicans out there who know that TFG is a threat. He won’t vote for Harris but also won’t vote for Trump. We had a good long conversation and it left me with more hope than despair.

Forgive me if I don’t reply to follow-up comments as I’ll be on the road again tomorrow.

My discussions with a Texas Republican - not what you think

I recently walked in to a store that sells two wheeled vehicles. There were three associates on the floor.,

One employee was waiting on a customer. The other two couldn’t have cared less that a potential customer was in the store to buy something. When nobody approached me, I eventually walked out. I prefer not to have to beg someone to take my money. I expect some form of service in exchange.

The next day I received a survey (!!!) to tell of my experience at the store, which I did in vivid pissy detail. The whole point of this diatribe is that I was offended (majorly pissed) that I was identified simply by walking in their door and subsequently asked to do a survey. To me, this was an infringement of my privacy.

I don’t know to him I should bitch - my Senator, Ron Johnson? Fat chance. I doubt that he can even read. Tammy Baldwin. Perhaps but she’s not my Senator. Someone locally? I don’t know.

We are all being identified on a daily basis and I for one object in the strongest of terms. I am writing this after reading the Tic Toc post on DU. Yes, this post is somewhat unrelated to the basis of the TicToc post, but still falls into the realm of that soon to be forgotten word, PRIVACY!
