Are any of you on the Oregon Health Plan or the new(er) Oregon Health Plan Bridge Plan?

My spouse (age 68), myself and our youngest daughter (23) are on OHP; my husband has Medicare/Medicaid coverage. I'm trying to wrap my head around a few things and wonder if any of you can offer me insight.

1. My spouse is looking into starting his social security benefits soon (TBD). Once that happens our household income goes up and we may/may not be eligible for OHP. But here's one of my conundrums. The OHP/OHP bridge program is for ages 19-65. So if my husband is 68, how does his social security decision impact me, or my daughter's OHP eligibility? I'm 63, so 2-years out from Medicare (assuming it even exists in two years).

2. Our daughter recently graduated from college. This will be the first year that when we do our taxes she will most likely not qualify as being a dependent (based on the fact that she was not enrolled in college in 2024 and earned more than the allowable amount...even though she lived with us rent free and we paid for 90% of her food.) So with that in mind, does our household drop down from 3 to 2 and thereby reducing our monthly maximum income eligibility requirements? She's looking for a job. When she finally does get into the work place either; she continues to qualify for OHP, she makes too much and goes into the market place or her place of employment has healthcare coverage. When all that happens, does her income affect my OHP eligibility? She'll eventually find a place of her own, once she gets her financial footing, but that could take some time. Also, she's trying to save up $$ for grad school, so who knows -- she might live with us and contribute to utilities and groceries.

I know -- I need to talk with someone about all of this -- but I thought that some of you might already be experiencing this and could offer some insight. Thanks so much!

Thinking of becoming an expat

Are any of you expats or planning on being expats?

If so, where do you reside or where will you go? Been giving a lot of thought to México. Any of you live there? If so where? And why that location?

YES SHE CAN! New Anthem by music produce and recording artist will.i.am

Music producer and recording artist will.i.am released a new anthem endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday.

At just under two minutes, “Yes She Can” is a short and sweet tribute to the hope of a better future. “What's wrong with America? Why can't we get along in America? Something's going on in America. People entertained by the predator,” will.i.am raps. “We all immigrants, different characters. But together, you know, we can break down the barriers. So register and vote for your life.”...

Daily Kos - Harris campaign's gripping 'next chapter' ad will give you goosebumps

Vice President Kamala Harris released a final campaign ad on Wednesday. Cut together using footage from her "Closing argument address," Tuesday night, the ad highlights both the campaign’s promises of a better future, and the stakes for our democracy that this election represents.

“Our Next Chapter | Kamala Harris' Closing Argument,” shows Harris speaking at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., intercut with footage of Americans, throughout our history, fighting for freedom. It includes images of the fight against fascism in World War II, footage of sit-ins and marches during the Civil Rights era, and modern footage of protests for reproductive rights...

Perhaps it was appropriate. It was certainly on-brand. The culmination of Donald Trump’s campaign for president was a rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden, billed as his homecoming, the capstone of his political comeback.

But that’s not what happened in Manhattan last night. Instead, it was a vulgar hate-fest with possible political ramifications.

Before Trump took the stage, speaker after speaker filled the storied venue with hours of racist rants and hateful vitriol. If the intention was to inflame his MAGA extremist base, kudos to you, Donald, you did it. ...

Satirical Trump statue appears overnight on downtown Portland street

In an installation that recalls an iconic image from Portland’s political past, a satirical statue of former President Donald J. Trump popped up on a downtown thoroughfare Sunday, just 10 days before voters nationwide will decide whether he will get a second chance to return to the White House.

The statue, on Southwest 6th Avenue between Alder and Morrison streets, depicts Trump in his trademark loose-fitting suit, feet encased in loafers, mouth twisted into a smirk and hair feathered high in a pompadour of sorts, with his right hand curled in a suggestive fashion....

Legitimate question about polls and polling

I feel like more people don’t answer their phone when they see an incoming call from “unknown”, “survey” or spam. I know I don’t pick up. I let these calls go to voicemail. Am I alone in this behavior or is this more the norm?

Does this behavior break along political lines? Gender? Age? Socioeconomic status? Education? Or are most of us sick and tired of these calls?

If so, then who is responding to these polling calls and by the fact that a lot of us ignore them, doesn’t that in and of itself skew results?

Just wondering….
