Obama Pledges To Protect Vulnerable In ‘Fiscal Cliff’ Talks, Advocates Say

On the same day he told congressional leaders that he would seek common ground to avert deep budget cuts scheduled to go into effect next year, President Obama met with a roster of civic and civil rights leaders and promised them that he shared their goal of protecting the nation’s middle class and more vulnerable families, several of the leaders said. Obama and Vice President Biden met with advocates for the poor, the elderly, Hispanics, African Americans, the disabled and young people, among others. Several of them told reporters outside the West Wing after their meeting ended that they were encouraged by Obama’s willingness to listen and his promise that he shares their goals.

The advocates said they urged Obama not to raise taxes on lower or middle class families and not to cut programs that serve these families. Several of them noted that the constituencies they represent turned out heavily for Obama in last week’s presidential election -- a sign that the nation expects the president to stand up for them during these negotiations, they said. “We worked very hard to turn out a lot of folks in this election,” said Janet Murguia of the National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest civil rights group for Hispanics.

Several of the participants represent faith-based groups, including Sister Simone Campbell of NETWORK, better known as the “Nun on the Bus” who advocated during election season on behalf of social justice and anti-poverty measures. Campbell said Obama pledged to work on behalf of those issues. “He clearly understands that you can work for minimum wage and still be in poverty,” she said. “His commitment to ensuring that working class families are protected in these negotiations is really at the heart of it for us.”

The Rev. Jim Wallis of Sojourners also spoke after the meeting: “Deficits are indeed moral issues, and how you resolve them is a moral issue too. You can’t resolve a deficit by increasing poverty. So during this holiday season, we faith leaders are going to reach out as we always do to poor people. But we’re also going to say don’t do things fiscally that make the poor poorer and don’t make our job harder.”

One More REASON Petraeus Might Have Resigned

Marc Ambinder of the The Week reports on an intriguing and little-known factor that may have contributed to David Petraeus' quick decision to resign: It seems Petraeus was on the list of people who would have access to the nation's nuclear codes should the rest of Washington be wiped out in an attack. And the people on that list are held to ultra-high standards under something called the Personnel Reliability Program. "Adultery is not a minor sin under the PRP rules," writes Ambinder.

It's all part of the nation's secret Continuity of Government plans in the wake of a catastrophe. Petraeus' "exalted" role in those plans might well have led national intelligence chief James Clapper to insist he step down as quickly as he did, writes Ambinder. Read the full post here.

http://www.newser.com/story/157741/one-more-reason-petraeus-might-have-resigned.html

When he admitted having an extramarital affair with Paula Broadwell, CIA Director David Petraeus, as a senior civilian in the presidential chain of command should something go catastrophically wrong in Washington, violated special behavior codes for officials who might one day be forced to execute nuclear strikes. In classified presidential emergency action documents, the CIA director is among the dozens, if not hundreds, of officials who are listed as National Command Authority successors in the event that higher-ranking officials are no longer able to do their jobs.

Because under certain circumstances he'd have ready access to the nuclear satchel, Petraeus was indoctrinated into the Personnel Reliability Program, which evaluates and monitors the lifestyle and behavior of Americans with access to nuclear command and control mechanisms. Adultery is not a minor sin under the PRP rules.

The details of so-called "nuclear pre-delegation" is one of the most tightly held secrets in the U.S. government. The first 18 presidential successors are spelled out by law. But it is not clear whether the pre-delegation lists follow the Constitutional chain of command.

From The ‘No He Didn’t’ File: Reporter Luke Russert Calls Pelosi ‘Old’ (VIDEO)

Or, he may as well have. It’d be funny if it didn’t suggest an authentically myopic view about age and how it’s used to judge another’s ability and effectiveness: At a press conference to announce her decision to retain her post as leader of the minority caucus, Nancy Pelosi opened the floor to the attending reporters and 27-year-old Luke Russert (son of the late, great, Tim Russert) put his youthful foot in his mouth by asking the following:

“Your colleagues privately say that your decision to stay on prohibits the party from having a younger leadership. What’s your response?”

See video below for her answer to that…the word “offensive” came up:

Whether or not Russert’s assertion is true (Is it? How does he know? What colleagues?), the ham-handed density of asking a respected professional woman, one who’s worked her way up the ranks as a successful member of Congress, whether or not she thinks she’s too old to be an effective leader is “offensive.” In fact, it’s offensive on a number of levels, from its implication that age alone impacts effectiveness, to the notion that an older women is ripe to receive that kind of clumsy query, right down to the perception that Russert was well aware of how “sizzling” his question was and asked it for exactly the attention it’s bringing him.

“Privately gripe”? Well, not so private now that they’ve got you to be their spokes-reporter! I’m thinking lobbyist might be your next best profession, Luke.

One REASON Romney Wanted To Win: Post Election Romney & Bain Face Fed. Corruption & Perjury Hearing

Poiticus USA - Ten days ago, this column reported on a Delaware bankruptcy court’s failure to enter an Emergency Motion into the public docket that included Bain Capital and Romney operative’s perjury and corruption in the eToys bankruptcy case. At the time it appeared the judge was protecting Romney and Bain Capital by suppressing the motion in expectation he would win the election and have the motion tossed out of court ...

http://www.politicususa.com/post-election-romney-bain-face-federal-corruption-perjury-hearing.html

Well now that he lost the election, it appears the allegation had merit because on November 7, the day after his crushing defeat, the Delaware bankruptcy court judge entered the motion into the public docket and scheduled a hearing for December 4, 2012; all on the same day.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/113412894/Notice-of-Hearing-Dec-4-2012

It was a victory for the whistleblower and eToys investors, and incriminating for the Delaware court and Willard Romney because although the judge received the Emergency Motion on October 24th, it was withheld from the public docket until after it was clear Romney lost the election and would not be appointing an attorney general to drop the case.

According to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rule 79 says when a motion is received by the court,

“The clerk must keep a record known as the civil docket, and must enter each civil action in the docket and assign consecutive file numbers, which must be noted in the docket where the first entry of the action is made.”

http://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcp

Instead of putting the Emergency Motion into the public docket immediately when it was received, it was held up until the day after the election and gives the very believable appearance the court was waiting for election results before either acting on the Motion according to the law, or letting it languish until Romney appointed a friendly attorney general.

Assuming Romney would appoint a friend of Bain as attorney general is an entirely realistic assumption because Bain Capital’s corrupt lawyers were let off the hook when George W. Bush appointed another Bain lawyer as Delaware U.S. Attorney who refused to investigate and eventually drop the eToys case instead of prosecuting and forcing Bain to repay investors who were bilked out of their money.

KARL ROVE Under Attack By His Own Party, being thrown under the bus in a blame game.

Karl Rove was ambitious this past election. He spent hundreds of millions of dollars in an attempt to sway people into thinking Mitt Romney was going to win. He was so confident in his ability he even threw a tantrum on air. And now he is under attack by his own party, being thrown under the bus in a blame game. And now it turns out, Karl may have broken the law in his eagerness.

Think Progress has uncovered that Rove’s Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (GPS) is, for lack of a better term, not-legal. Not saying that they’re illegal, but they failed to file the necessary legal paperwork to even exist in the first place.

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/11/14/1188771/exclusive-karl-roves-crossroads-gps-never-filed-legally-required-registration/

Crossroads GPS was filed with the IRS as a 501(c)(4) “social welfare organization” located in Virginia. This kind of corporate structure is commonly called a dark money group due to its design to shield donors from any fallout associated with the donations. However, when you check with the state of Virginia, no such organization exists in their database.http://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/consumers/cgi-bin/char_search.cgi
Per the law in Virginia, any such organization which is to collect $1 million or more in donations must file the proper paperwork and fees before starting operation with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs. Crossroads GPS did neither.

As a result, the shield which Crossroads GPS was to provide their donors may not apply at all. Failure by Karl Rove to cross his Ts and dot his Is might open him, and all of his donors, up to a legal nightmare scenario. He may have to return all of the money, and even then all the donors would become public knowledge, and he may be facing jail time for illegal solicitation of millions of dollars of donor money. People have gone to jail for far less severe a crime.

Karl Rove appears to have been so assured of victory that trivialities like legal paperwork appear to have not registered with him. Without a Romney presidency, Rove now may be facing an IRS auditor in his future, along with numerous complaints and other legal filings. The story of Karl Rove may make a good movie one day, discussing the hubris of greed and the failings of Objectivism.

For now, it is clear that Rove is finished.

Johnny ‘Walnuts’ McCain Goes Gran Torino Over Benghazi Briefing (VIDEO)

The cantankerous and crotchety war hero with a “get off my damn front lawn” approach to international affairs, Senator McCain, went all Eastwood in Gran Torino (or even Eastwood at the RNC in Tampa) on reporters. It seems some disrespectful CNN youth asked why he decided to have a press conference about the need for more discussions on Benghazi, all the while blithely not bothering to attend a classified briefing on Benghazi that was being delivered to the Senate Homeland Security committee, of which he’s a ranking member. That’s like leaving a restaurant to scream about not having enough fix-ins’ for you salad just as the restaurant is refilling the salad bar.

When approached by CNN Reporters in a Capitol hallway (the elderly are notoriously crankier in hallways) earlier today, McCain was asked about the so-called “scheduling error” regarding his conspicuous absence during the Benghazi hearing.

“I have no comment about my schedule and I’m not going to comment on how I spend my time to the media,” McCain said. Asked why he wouldn’t comment, McCain grew agitated: “Because I have the right as a senator to have no comment and who the hell are you to tell me I can or not?” (Daily Kos)

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/15/1162067/-John-McCain-has-meltdown-when-asked-why-he-didn-t-attend-Benghazi-briefing#

McCain’s increasingly pugnacious and erratic behavior leads me to believe that he’s now an animatronic version of his former self. In any case, “scheduling error” will soon be the latest meme de jour.

Mitt Romney Puts the Republican SPIN About Sandy in Bill Clinton’s Mouth

Mitt Romney is now claiming that Bill Clinton told him that he might have won, were it not for Hurricane Sandy.

ABC reports on a Romney phone conference:

Romney: “I spoke with President Clinton the day before yesterday, he called and spent thirty minutes chatting with me. He said a week out I thought you were going to win. And he said, but the hurricane happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look bipartisan, and you know he got a little more momentum, and of course he also said that when he was watching Ann speak at the Republican convention, he decided he was tempted to join the Republican Party. So he may have just been effusive with generous comments as he chatted.”

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/11/republicans-return-romneys-parting-gift-the-note/

Obviously, Romney is having a tough time with reality. Not only did his first debate bump not last past the improving economic numbers just days later, but this is the man who put words in Australia’s Foreign Minister’s mouth in order to attack Obama. The idea that Bill Clinton would suggest that he was tempted to join the Republican Party after watching Ann Romney speak is, at best, an example of Bill’s charm. At worst, it is not true or is an exaggeration of a nicety thrown out by Clinton to the loser.

Bill Clinton is one of the best politicians around. He knows the hurricane did not win the election for Obama, although Obama’s competency in dealing with it did not hurt. Obama was already winning in the swing states, where he swept Romney, leaving him “shell shocked

The narrative that the hurricane did Romney in is a Republican talking point, desperately being spread around in order to excuse the candidate and Karl Rove for their failure to deliver a win to wealthy donors who were told Romney was winning.

Did Eric Cantor and/or Shirtless FBI Agent LEAK INFO. To Romney & Bob Woodward?

Background on Eric Cantor:

January 20, 2009, Eric Cantor plotted to sabotage the US Economy on January 20, with Paul Ryan and 11 other Republican Congressmen as outlined in Robert Draper's book and written about in DKos Diary here:
http://current.com/10g60kc

Fast Forward to November 7, 2012:

The day after the election, Bob Woodward told Sean Hannity that a few weeks before the election, Romney supporters went to his house and told him they had a government informant they wanted Woodward to meet with.

WOODWARD: "Some people close to Romney, a couple of weeks ago, just showed up at my house and said that they had somebody in a very sensitive position in the U.S. government who was willing to meet with me and give me information about Benghazi,"

Was Eric Cantor one of the people Woodward referred to as "some people close to Romney?"

Was Eric Cantor the "somebody in a very sensitive position in the US government?" -- or -- was that person the shirtless FBI dude?

Woodward went on and told Hannity that at first the man did not show up but when they finally met, the man did not have first hand information.

WOODWARD: “Appointments were broken, the guy didn’t show up, he finally showed up, and he didn’t have anything where he had any firsthand knowledge, he said you ought to talk to this person and that person and so forth, so people are digging into it.”

Was Woodward describing the FBI investigation on the cyber-bullying from Petraeus' lover when he said "this person and that person ... are digging into it?" .

Conversation with Eric Cantor's office:

I have a friend who is a student studying journalism and is writing a paper on the Benghazi ambush who called Eric Cantor's office and asked if the shirtless FBI informant mentioned anything about Benghazi to Eric Cantor and then asked if Eric Cantor met with Bob Woodward.

A man named "Jimmy" answered Eric Cantor's DC phone line and after telling my friend he did not know the answers to the questions, he said that Cantor's office was told not to talk about any of "it."

Only written notes were taken on the phone call to Eric Cantor's office. From those notes:

STUDENT: Did the FBI agent disclose any information to Eric Cantor regarding Benghazi

JIMMY: "I don't know"

STUDENT: "After the agent talked to Eric Cantor, did Eric Cantor meet with the author Bob Woodward?"

JIMMY: "I don't know that either."

STUDENT: "Is there anyone in Eric Cantor's office, like maybe his Communication's Director, who can give me the answers?"

JIMMY: "No one is supposed to talk about it."

STUDENT: "really? No one is supposed to talk about it? Can I quote you on that in my paper?"

JIMMY: "Yes."

STUDENT: "Can I ask you another question?"

JIMMY: "Yes"

STUDENT: "Can you tell me why Eric Cantor instructed his office not talk about it?"

JIMMY: "No, I don't know why."

Like I said, only written notes were taken on the phone call to Eric Cantor's office. Anyone reading can feel free to call Cantor's office to see if they can get any more information from them.

Eric Cantor DC - phone (202) 225-2815

Conversation with Dave Reichert's office:

The press has reported that the shirtless FBI Agent spoke with Rep. Dave Reichert (R) before talking to Cantor. The student called Rep. Dave Reichert's office and spoke with Zack.

STUDENT: Did the FBI agent disclose any information to Dave Reichert regarding Benghazi

ZACK: "I am not authorized to answer that."

STUDENT: "Can you answer this, after the agent talked to Dave Reichert, did Reichert meet with the author Bob Woodward?"

ZACK: "I don't know that either."

STUDENT: Can you tell me why Rep. Reichert told you not to answer questions about this?

ZACK: "No, I don't know."

Dave Reichert DC - phone (202) 225-7761

Bob Woodward:

Finally, the student tried to reach Bob Woodward at the Washington Post but only got his voice mail. To my knowledge, Mr. Woodward has not contacted the student back.

Washington Post Main Line: (202) 334-6000
