Jeep in China

by Gualberto Ranieri

October 25, 2012 4:24 PM

There are times when the reading of a newswire report generates storms originated by a biased or predisposed approach.

On Oct. 22, 2012, at 11:10 a.m. ET, the Bloomberg News report “Fiat Says Jeep® Output May Return to China as Demand Rises” stated “Chrysler currently builds all Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley (President and CEO of the Jeep brand) referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China.”

Despite clear and accurate reporting, the take has given birth to a number of stories making readers believe that Chrysler plans to shift all Jeep production to China from North America, and therefore idle assembly lines and U.S. workforce. It is a leap that would be difficult even for professional circus acrobats.

Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation. A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments.

Vince McMahon 'Fesses Up To Donation To Trump

It wasn't Donald's $5 million bucks he was offering,.....it was Vince and Linda McMahon Family Foundation who gave the $5 million to Trump.

Yesterday, Linda McMahon and the WWE, the Linda and Vince McMahon entertainment conglomerate, were arguing over where a $5 million donation to Donald Trump's foundation came from, that $5 million being at issue because of The Donald's bizarre birther $5 million pledge.

Looks like they found the culprit for the big donation.

Vince McMahon stepped forward Thursday as the top donor to the Donald J. Trump Foundation, with a spokesman for the wrestling impresario’s company telling Hearst Newspapers that the WWE chief executive gave $5 million to the charity. [...]

WWE previously said that the Vincent and Linda McMahon Family Foundation gave the $5 million to Trump, who has long questioned Obama’s citizenship and eligibility to run for president.

http://blog.ctnews.com/politics/2012/10/25/pay-to-the-order-of-the-donald/

See, it's not from WWE, or the family foundation, where Linda McMahon makes the decisions. No, the story now is that Vince came up with this one all on his own. Sounds like he's going to have to look out for more groin kicks coming his way.

See, this is particularly problematic for the missus right now, because her election in blue Connecticut is hinging on her ability to tie herself to Obama. Being tied instead to the birther-in-chief is going to make that kind of difficult.

Let's just end McMahon's political ambitions here and now.

Please send Chris Murphy $3 on ActBlue.

Obama and Dems ‘ABSOLUTELY CRUSHING’ Romney and GOP in Early Voting in NEVADA

On MSNBC this morning, Nevada political reporter Jon Ralston said that President Obama and Democrats are “absolutely crushing” Mitt Romney and Republicans in early voting in the state. He’s right. Democrats lead Republicans on every metric: mail ballots returned, in-person early voting, and total ballots cast.

TRANSCRIPT

ROBERTS: We want to dig deeper into the numbers with Nevada political journalist Jon Ralston, host of “Ralston Reports,” our NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, which is KSNV, and also the author of the “Ralston Reports” website and joining us is Allison Sherry, Washington correspondent for The Denver Post. It’s great to have you all here. Jon, I want to start with you. Key in Nevada, our polls showing that President Obama with this lead among the state’s large Hispanic population. NBC News Political Director Chuck Rodd reports even Republicans feel Nevada is so well-organized on the Democratic side of things, it’s really going to be hard to overcome the advantage. So, what are you hearing on the ground?

RALSTON: Well, on the ground, Thomas, the Democrats are absolutely crushing the Republicans in early voting. Where I’m sitting right now, Clark County, the Las Vegas area, more than 200,000 people have already voted, it might be a third of the total vote has already been cast and the Democrats have about a 36,000 vote lead in ballots returned if you’re assuming that most of those are voting for the President, that’s a real problem for Mitt Romney, but those Hispanic numbers you mentioned with the 50-point lead, which is about what exit polls showed, by the way, in 2008 Obama beat John McCain by. That’s a real problem, again, for Mitt Romney. Hispanics will be about 15% of the electorate here…

ROBERTS: Jon, as we look at the Romney Political Director Rich Beeson telling Politico, quote about Nevada “Nevada has been the toughest nut for us to crack.” He also points, though, to some hopeful signs including winning early voting two days in a row in Washoe County, which includes Reno, that’s exactly where Governor Romney was earlier this week. He says that John McCain never won early voting one day there. Beeson also pinning hopes on big margins in the rural counties, what do you think of that?

RALSTON: I think all of that is true, Thomas, but I think comparing 2008, which was a landslide wave election especially here in Nevada where John McCain essentially abandoned the state and did not campaign here is a fool’s errand for the Republicans, but what they’re right about is that Romney will win by a big margin in rural Nevada, but that’s only about 12%, maybe 15% of the vote. Washoe County is a swing county in the state. The registration is about even. The Republicans are doing okay up there but not great, Thomas. The Democrats are keeping it about even. Romney has to win Washoe County by five to seven points at least I would say to have a chance of winning the state. There’s no evidence yet, and, again, we only have six days and 14 days of early voting in the book that that’s happening.

GERALDO Pleads With FOX News: ‘Stop This Politicizing’ Of Libya'

An impassioned plea to halt the politicization of the attack in Benghazi came from surprising quarters this morning. Fox News’s Geraldo Rivera, appearing on Fox and Friends, rattled through several right-wing talking points about what the Obama administration could have and didn’t do during the Sept. 11 assault, debunking each of them.

Rivera was primarily responding to statements just minutes before by Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA), who sits on the House Government and Oversight Committee. In his remarks, Kelly claimed that the Pentagon was unable or unwilling to respond to the attack, which wound up killing four Americans, despite “real-time” information coming in. Rivera pushed back on Kelly’s claims and the idea that military assets could have made it to Libya in time:

RIVERA: I think we need to stop this politicizing, we’re getting away from the real issue, which is why wasn’t there security before it happened. But these preposterous allegations, reckless allegations, that somebody — They paint a picture of some fat bureaucrat watching TV. You heard him describe it, Congressman Kelly. I think that’s really beyond the pale.

Obama LEADS By 3 In Pair Of New Hampshire POLLS

Two polls show President Barack Obama holding 3-point leads in battleground New Hampshire.

A poll from Democratic pollster Lake Research Partners released on Thursday evening, conducted on behalf of the progressive grassroots organization USAction, shows Obama leading Mitt Romney among likely Granite State voters 48 percent to 45 percent. The poll also shows a majority of New Hampshire voters, 53 percent, holding a favorable view of the president. Romney, who was the governor of neighboring Massachusetts and who owns a home in New Hampshire, is viewed favorably by a plurality of 49 percent of voters.

The inaugural poll from New England College released on Friday shows Obama falling just short of the 50 percent marker, but still leading Romney 49 percent to 46 percent among likely New Hampshire voters.

Obama and Romney are currently neck-and-neck in New Hampshire, according to the PollTracker average, making the state a toss-up on the TPM Electoral Scoreboard.

Third-quarter GDP Came In MARGINALLY BETTER Than Expected

Third-quarter GDP came in marginally better than expected, and stock futures are easing off earlier lows, as the electorate gets one of the final big data points ahead of the November election.

Dow futures are still down, but have come off earlier lows as the market had a typical knee-jerk reaction to the data. Dow futures now are down 48 points; they were down around 100 earlier. Treasurys, which had been rising, are paring their gains. The yield on the U.S. 10-year is at 1.79%.

GDP was 2%, better than expectations of 1.8%. Dow Jones’ Jeff Sparshott and Eric Morath explain:

Americans opened up their wallets in the third quarter. Consumer spending accounted for most of the increase in GDP–real personal consumption expenditures climbed 2.0%, compared with only 1.5% in the second quarter. Purchases of long-lasting goods posted an especially strong 8.5% gain.

President Obama Has Earned the Trust and Confidence of Veterans

Active duty military personnel are not encouraged to voice their political opinion. Military men and women, dedicated to following the chain of command, are nonetheless keen on how decisions in the White House will impact their lives. Consequently, they have a unique perspective on how President Obama’s leadership fits with their goals and objectives. The Truman National Security Project created short collage of voices in a television advertisement to emphasize how Mitt Romney’s rhetoric doesn’t match reality when viewed through the eyes of a soldier.

A few of President Obama’s foreign policy achievements that have increased America’s security and reduced the threat to our soldiers have been:

Led the 50 nations that make up the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and met to discuss the next step in the transition of power there—setting a goal for Afghan forces to take the lead for combat operations across the country in 2013.

Took the fight to al Qaeda and eliminated Osama bin Laden.

Announced a plan to responsibly end the War in Iraq and kept our promise to end combat operations there by August 31, 2010 and to remove all US troops by the end of 2011.

Built an international coalition to stop a massacre in Libya, and to support the Libyan people as they overthrew the regime of Moammar Qadhafi.

Expanded the use of lethal drones to target high value terrorist targets without putting our armed forces in harms way and worked to create a “disposition of suspects” matrix that will keep the terrorist on edge for years to come.

Our military personnel have also seen how President Obama has put them first in safety and also pushed for enhanced benefits veterans need such as:

Improved care for poly-trauma, vision impairment, prosthetics, spinal cord injury, aging, and women’s health.

Plans to raise military pay and continue providing quality child-care, job-training for spouses, and expanded counseling and outreach to families that have known the separation and stress of war.

A new Returning Heroes Tax Credit for firms that hire unemployed veterans.

Executive Order that strengthens suicide prevention efforts across the Force and in the veteran community and improves access to mental health services for veterans, service members, and military families members.
