President Obama Has Earned the Trust and Confidence of Veterans

Active duty military personnel are not encouraged to voice their political opinion. Military men and women, dedicated to following the chain of command, are nonetheless keen on how decisions in the White House will impact their lives. Consequently, they have a unique perspective on how President Obama’s leadership fits with their goals and objectives. The Truman National Security Project created short collage of voices in a television advertisement to emphasize how Mitt Romney’s rhetoric doesn’t match reality when viewed through the eyes of a soldier.

A few of President Obama’s foreign policy achievements that have increased America’s security and reduced the threat to our soldiers have been:

Led the 50 nations that make up the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and met to discuss the next step in the transition of power there—setting a goal for Afghan forces to take the lead for combat operations across the country in 2013.

Took the fight to al Qaeda and eliminated Osama bin Laden.

Announced a plan to responsibly end the War in Iraq and kept our promise to end combat operations there by August 31, 2010 and to remove all US troops by the end of 2011.

Built an international coalition to stop a massacre in Libya, and to support the Libyan people as they overthrew the regime of Moammar Qadhafi.

Expanded the use of lethal drones to target high value terrorist targets without putting our armed forces in harms way and worked to create a “disposition of suspects” matrix that will keep the terrorist on edge for years to come.

Our military personnel have also seen how President Obama has put them first in safety and also pushed for enhanced benefits veterans need such as:

Improved care for poly-trauma, vision impairment, prosthetics, spinal cord injury, aging, and women’s health.

Plans to raise military pay and continue providing quality child-care, job-training for spouses, and expanded counseling and outreach to families that have known the separation and stress of war.

A new Returning Heroes Tax Credit for firms that hire unemployed veterans.

Executive Order that strengthens suicide prevention efforts across the Force and in the veteran community and improves access to mental health services for veterans, service members, and military families members.
