At what point would we see an Elizabeth Warren group?

It would be nice to chronicle her deeds in one place.

Would any of the Cardinals at the conclave have been progressive?

My sense is that any Cardinal ordained under the last two Popes would have have been very conservative. But I don't know much about these things.

If that's the case, then at least it's good that the Church has a new leader that pays attention to poverty and inequality. I sure hope it doesn't turn out that Francis was complicit in Argentina's past horrors.

Religion is both a great blessing and an awful curse, depending on how it's administered. Like government, I suppose.

Elizabeth Warren: "‘Chained CPI’ is just a fancy way to say..."

“‘Chained CPI’ is just a fancy way to say ‘cut benefits for seniors, the permanently disabled, and orphans,’”
- Elizabeth Warren, FDR Democrat

Let's fight for what's right.

Thank God for Paul Ryan

Listening to that nut yammering on today with true-believer blather about killing Medicare, cutting taxes on the rich... I realized that he may be the only thing standing between us and a savage Grand Bargaining.

Hold tight Paul! No compromises! Jesus will extra nice to you in Heaven because you were principled!

P.S. Yes, Third-Wayers, this means that I've signed on to Ryan's Presidential campaign. I switched from Rand Paul's campaign which I joined last week, as proven by my being against extrajudicial executions. Just don't look up the phrase "useful idiot", it will ruin your night.

Sudden drop in jury service requests

Until a few weeks ago, it seemed like I was being asked to serve on a jury several times a week. Now I don't think I've been asked even once in the past few weeks. I think some other folks have experienced this, and there had been a post speculating on the reasons in Meta before Meta went into The Void.

Random chance, or did something change?

Obama: Last of the "New Democrats"? (Salon)

http://www.salon.com/2012/10/30/obama_last_of_the_new_democrats/

Our times demand visionary leadership. The moderate progressivism of Clinton and Obama isn't up to the task

“I am a New Democrat,” Barack Obama told the New Democrat Coalition back in March 2009. Whether he wins a second term or is defeated, the first black president of the United States may be not only the second but also the last of the New Democrats in the White House.

Between the 1980s and the present, the so-called New Democrats have existed in two distinct forms. In the early 1980s, the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) was formed, chiefly by white Southern and Western Democratic politicians, with the goal of winning back “Reagan Democrats” — white working-class members of the dying Roosevelt coalition, who combined support for universal social programs like Social Security and Medicare with hawkish military attitudes and socially conservative values on attitudes like abortion, censorship and gay rights. Early in its history, the DLC proposed a program of educational and other benefits for young Americans in return for national military or civilian service, along the lines of the G.I. Bill.

...

As presidents, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have both reflected the priorities of the second New Democrat coalition, uniting donors from Wall Street, Hollywood and Silicon Valley with a “new majority” coalition of racial minorities, immigrants, liberal women and young voters. Because Democratic voters are disproportionately poor, this has produced a Democratic Party that, in economic terms, is an hourglass coalition of the top and the bottom. Economic populism frightens the party’s billionaire donors, while social populism, which has often been associated with white working-class xenophobia, racism and religiosity, frightens blacks, Latinos, immigrants and white social liberals. The result is what Mike Konczal and others have called “pity-charity” liberalism — a kind of liberalism that appeals to the sympathy of the rich for the poor, rather than appealing, as the New Deal did, to solidarity among the middling majority. It was a version of progressivism ill-suited to the Great Recession, which demanded the visionary leadership of a Franklin Roosevelt, not the managerial competence of a Nelson Rockefeller.

Let us pray.

Why is "harassment, taunting, calls for PPR, and pejorative name calling" not so worrisome?

Or so it would seem based on your response to http://www.democraticunderground.com/1259246 Or maybe I'm misreading it (only 1 cup of coffee so far this AM...)?

Can you elaborate a little?

Thanks!

Air Force erases drone strike data amid criticisms

Air Force erases drone strike data amid criticisms

Quietly and without much notice, the Air Force has reversed its policy of publishing statistics on drone strikes in Afghanistan as the debate about drone warfare hits a fever pitch in Washington. In addition, it has erased previously published drone strike statistics from its website.

Since October, the Air Force had been providing monthly updates on drone strikes -- or in its words "weapons releases from remotely piloted aircraft (RPA)." But today, Air Force Times reporters Brian Everstine and Aaron Mehta discovered something was amiss: The statistics published for February "contained empty space where the box of RPA statistics had previously been." In other words: The drone strike data was gone. But that's not all. The Air Force had also scrubbed drone strike data from earlier monthly reports.

...

The Pentagon told Air Force Times it had nothing to do with the change, while Air Force Central Command didn't respond to a request for comment. But Everstine and Mehta point out that the timing of the changes are a tad suspicious given recent actions by a certain Kentucky senator.

"These are not the drones you are looking for. Nothing to see here, keep moving."

How I got a lifelong Republican to vote Dem. And you can too.

A good friend of mine grew up in the Midwest, and is still Midwestern even after being here in the People's Republic of Massachusetts for decades. Nice guy, but a lifelong Republican. Will readily admit that most of his party's gone nuts, but could never bring himself to vote for Democrats.

Last fall we were hanging out, and he was telling me how Scott Brown's GREAT because he's bipartisan, Warren's a Moonbat Lefty Harvard Professor, yadda, yadda, yadda... "Watch this!" I said as I popped onto YouTube, and pulled up a couple of videos of Not-Yet-Senator Warren reaming new orifices (orifi?) into Timmy Geithner, e.g.:

By the time the videos were done, Warren was a vote closer to her current job

It's been so many years since we've had FDR Democrats in office that people have forgotten what they do. Even folks in their 50s, like my buddy.

Virtually everyone knows that the banks are screwing the 99% with full bipartisan government help. There's bipartisan hatred for it among the 99%, bipartisan love for it among the 1%. Even Republicans, and certainly independents, have got to look at Warren going after these swine with both fists bared and think "@#$%, that's just what we need!".

Going into 2014 (thanks Will Pitt!) and beyond, I will make sure that I show as many Liz Warren beatdown videos to as many people that I can. Show 'em what an FDR Democrat is, and why they want one. I hope that you try it, too.
