A hypothetical question for Akin

Let's say Akin's teenaged daughter was raped by a man who was NOT blond-blue-eyed...and the "secretions" failed her..

How many minutes would pass before they got her the "morning after pill"?
How many days later would she receive a "D & C" or "menstrual extraction"?

Would he really force her to bear that child?

Maybe he would hold true and force her to bear the child, but the ONE thing he would be able to do is to "keep it in the family", because his family has the financial means to keep it that way.

A poor woman or struggling student who has $28.00 in her checking account,(and probably no health insurance) has no other option, but to rely on the ability to get help with her dilemma. She may also live in a state that has made any option other than bearing the child, unavailable to her.. By definition, she "asked for it".

"Forcible Rape" is just the latest in a long line of Luntz-isms

Remember :

Clear Skies....brought to you by the biggest polluters around
Healthy Forests ...brought to you by the logging industry
Clean Coal..brought to you by coal companies
Compassionate Conservatism..
No Child Left Behind

etc

Now they are saying "legitimate/Forcible" is being compared to "false" rapes.. They cannot get that foot out of their mouth

End Of The Road

Documentary Channel in the U.S. has acquired feature docs End of the Road (pictured) and Under Fire: Journalists in Combat from UK distribution company MercuryMedia.

Directed by Tim Delmastro, End of the Road is a film about the global financial crisis, featuring interviews with financial experts including billionaire Eric Sprott and James G. Rickards, author and consultant to the U.S. Department of Defense. The doc examines the role governments may have played in the financial crisis’ growth.

In 2008 the world experienced one of the greatest financial turmoils in modern history. Markets around the world started crashing, stock prices plummeted, and major financial institutions, once thought to be invincible, started showing signs of collapse. Governments responded quickly, issuing massive bailouts and stimulus packages in an effort to keep the world economy afloat.

While we're told that these drastic measures prevented a total collapse of our system, a growing sense of unease has spread throughout the population. In the world of finance, indeed in all facets of modern life, cracks have started to appear. What lies ahead as a result of these bold ‘money printing' measures? Was the financial crisis solved, or were the problems merely ‘kicked down the road?'

A message to the 20/30-somethings who are not "enthusiastic" about voting for Obama

Maybe 4 years ago you were "over-the-moon" for the guy and thought he would miraculously solve all your problems, and now you are miffed because it didn't magically happen.

You may be thinking that you'll sit this one out, or maybe even vote for Mittens.

Here's something to consider:

You better love love love your parents and older siblings, because sooner than you think, you will be older (time speeds up as you age..trust me), and when you are trying to buy that first house, or need help getting a nice car, or maybe you need help with a down payment on a house, those are the people you will probably approach first.

Those people got "creamed" in the "crash of '08-09"
Most of them have little or no "money in the bank"
Most of them have no defined-benefit pensions
The ones who DO (did?) have them have seen them shrink dramatically or be dumped into PBGC (google that one)

The Romney crew is planning to make sure those people (the under-55's) do NOT have a secure Social Security/Medicare system waiting for them down the road.

These people will (if they have not already) be facing continued layoffs/downsizes/offshorings of their jobs, so their incomes are going to be further stressed....

which means....

They will most-likely be needing YOU to "fill the gaps" for them as they age, and there's a good chance that they will be leaving you little more than a mailbox full of bills.

They may be living WITH you for many years of their old age, since Medicaid is also on the chopping block too. Medicaid is how "ordinary people" fund convalescent/nursing home care for their aged.

Our human society is all based on shared, inter-generational kindnesses/responsibilities.

Moms & Dads know that taking care of their children is necessary, even if that 8 yr old cannot pay for his room & board.

That "mouthy" teenager who sometimes tells you that he /she "hates" you, still needs your support..and you give it.

The greatest gift a parent gives a child is their sense of independence and competency, so that when they grow up, they are capable, happy, productive people.

When children move out and become independent, those next years in parents' lives are crucial. Those are the years they can accumulate & prepare for their retirement, but when they are still helping their children, and then they see their own jobs disappearing, they are between a rock and a hard place...and most defer their own needs to continue to "help the kids".

Parents do not "want" to rely financially on their grown children, but if they have no other choice, they must.

Some "kids" will be in just as dire of straits as their folks, and all will suffer, and most will shoulder the responsibilities (even if they hate doing it), and some will shirk altogether, but most will want to help, and will think back to the "good old days" when Mom & Dad would have at least had Medicare & Social Security and might have been able to live independently in their old age..

That's what's at stake.

The October Surprise (maybe I'm just a cynic)

Jan Brewer & her cohorts do a round-up in the last week of October.

Rounding up parents, family members of the young people who signed onto the Dream "amnesty".

Her vindictive move today, is just the start.

I can see the above scenario playing out.,,with Joe Arpaiao at the "tip of the spear"..

I hope I am wrong, but I do not put anything past these freaks.

"... If you're 55 or older, you're okay...".. and other fairy tales

First of all, "let's examine the "you're okay" part.

If you are UNDER 55 you are definitely NOT okay.

Let's assume you are 40, and have been "under-employed" for a while now.

Your house is probably seriously underwater (if you still have or ever had a house of your own that you were buying).

You probably have a few kids too... and your parents are probably still alive. Some of you may even still have a grandparent alive.

You probably want your kids to have a shot at college.

If you have a 401k at work, you might end up with $100K if everything works out "great". but many bosses have stopped matching, or costs of healthcare have forced many employees to even not fund their share fully.

Even with SS & Medicare, the aging of parents is going to hit you in the wallet eventually, at the same time (probably) as your kids might be heading to college/community college. You'd probably like to be able to help them too. There will be little chance of using the house as a cash cow to cushion the blow of borrowing money for college. That ship has sailed.

Most people live & work in areas that have little or no public transit, so you probably have at least one car.

Even if you still have a "decent" family income, one serious illness/accident involving ANY family earner can wipe out whatever savings you might have accumulated.

At 40, you have approximately 30 years to set aside whatever you must live on until you die...and while you are saving/investing, you still have to fund all the costs associated with living in the here and now.

If you have no 401-k and use an IRA, good luck with that. At $5k per year, that works out to a whopping $150K plus whatever 0.01222% interest works out to, plus a coupon (the "reformed" Medicare plan) for health care bought at age 70 (which is probably what retirement age will be by the time you get to retire, will be).

If your house is miraculously paid off by then, you will still probably have to come up with at least $200 a month for insurance & taxes, and another $200 or so for utilities, and then there is food, which will be at least $200 a month. We're already at $600. For at least a while, you will probably be needing a vehicle, so the expenses for that continues.

If you have lost your house, or are a renter, those payments continue.

People without pensions rely on SS, part time jobs and savings to live on.

Social Security is TAXABLE too.

When your "now" income ends, you will probably be living on half the money you now earn.

If you are 40 and can afford to put away $416.67 a month, and never touch it until you are 70, you can withdraw $1k a month for 12.5 years.. (you better hope you don't live much more than that )

Can you do it?

Here's the rub...

MANY people suffer unemployment, for months/years at a time...many others' TAKE-HOME pay cannot sustain $100 a week into savings. ($12hr x 32 hours = $384 gross pay).
