Was it Alvin Bragg or was it Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz?

Remember this?
CNN Sun March 6, 2022

Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz, two senior prosecutors on the team, resigned last month – one day after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg informed them that he wasn’t prepared to move forward with criminal charges. The resignations followed weeks of internal debate and discussion over the strength of the evidence against Trump and whether it could pass the hurdle of proving a crime.

So two top prosecutors are told by Alvin Bragg to stop what they are doing. Bragg disagrees with Vance and halts everything --investigation, grand jury. The two top prosecutors register their objections to all this by resigning.

Fast forward to today. The case went forward and was successful.

My question is: What was different between then and now as far as Vance's vs Bragg's case? Was it the same thing just delayed?

Because I've been thinking that if we had been able to get a conviction back then how different (and possibly easier) things might have been to keep that going.

I'm open to thoughts from people who are aware of the nuts and bolts of Vance's and Bragg's cases.

Be gentle. I'm not a lawyer or even close. But I am curious.

Thanks.

Trump campaign raises record $34.8 million in donations after guilty verdict

Source: CNBC.COM

The Trump campaign said it nearly doubled its single-day fundraising record after a New York jury found former President Donald Trump guilty in his criminal hush money trial.

The Republican’s presidential campaign said it raised $34.8 million from small-dollar donors following the verdict finding Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

Nearly 30% of those donors were brand new to the Trump donation site WinRed, senior campaign advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles said in a press release.

Is this the real GOP plan to kill Social Security?

A Washington Post opinion article titled :
Americans are having too few kids. The GOP made the problem worse.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/05/01/fertility-rates-record-low-reproductive-care?itid=sr_1_99c611fb-ad52-4183-9ac1-930dfc0c5ed2

I saw the title of this opinion piece and it made me think. If the republicans can't kill Social Security through votes, is the real goal of anti-abortion legislation to kill Social Security through attrition?

U.S. fertility rates hit a record low in 2023, the federal government reported last week. The average American woman is now expected to have just 1.6 births over her lifetime, based on age-specific birthrates last year — well below the fertility rate needed for the native-born U.S. population to replace itself (2.1 lifetime births per woman). That’s been the case consistently since 2007, but it’s only getting worse.

In fact, the problem is already worse than government numbers suggest. The standard actuarial forecasts for Social Security assume a higher U.S. fertility rate than we’re on track to have; they project we’ll revert to near-replacement-level fertility rates in the years ahead, despite decades of data well below that. In other words, those dire forecasts for when Social Security might go broke are likely too optimistic.

EU Parliament 'ready' for requests to lift MEPs' immunity in Russian influence probe, says Metsola

(Note: MEP is an abbreviation for Member of the European Parliament: a politician who has been elected to represent an area of their country in the European Union)

The European Parliament is waiting for national authorities to provide intelligence that could lead to stripping MEPs' of their immunity in the so-called Russiagate probe, President Roberta Metsola told Euronews in an interview on Monday.

Speaking in Strasbourg ahead of the final plenary of the mandate, Metsola touched upon allegations members of her parliament received cash from a Kremlin-backed network to spread Russian propaganda in Europe.

Authorities in Belgium, the official seat of the European Parliament, have opened a judicial investigation into the claims, after Czech authorities first foiled a suspected propaganda operation in March.

[the investigation] comes just over two months before EU voters head to the polls to elect 720 members to the European Parliament, and amid mounting fears Kremlin proxies could be using information manipulation to skew the democratic vote.
