It's an intentional tactic, they shame people into feeling embarrassed about supporting "liberal" and "leftist" reforms, terms that carry artificially created negative connotations for the same purpose.

It has always been effective, it's why we're associated with socialist dictators and the mythical violent left, it's why we're labeled as dirty hippie freeloaders and crazy conspiracy theorists.

Don't ever let them shame you into conformity.
