In reply to the discussion: Republicans ask Biden to withdraw 'divisive' proposal to teach more Black history [View all]Lonestarblue
(9,988 posts)I know of one high school history book that described black people as immigrants to came to the US to work! History has long been taught from a white perspective and from the perspective of the great white men who built America, from the Founders to the robber barons and dynasties founded by Rockefellers, Carnegie, and others. Not much is included about how they built their fortunes and the people they trampled on to do it.
We all learn from our own mistakes in life and from what we read about the results of choices made. We have a more recent example in the horrible result from 2016 of people choosing Trump over Clinton. That is one of the purposes of studying historyto learn from what went wrong as well as what went right. Sports teams use videos of past games to learn these lessons. The military uses past skirmishes and wars to learn lessons. Yet Republicans want to deny our childrenthe future leaders of the countrythe right to learn lessons from the past. Shame on them. They think they can bury history as deep as theyve buried their own honesty and morals.
Edited to add: And while were at it, lets be honest about the genocide of Native Americans committed for the benefit of white settlers.
