providing welfare assistance, medical and dental care, etc., to these people would go ten times as far if it were spent building decent refugee TOWNS (not camps--towns, with schools, running water, buildings, streets, electricity, etc) for people on the land Jordan has already given over for these purposes.
When all is said and done, some might stay, Jordan would have a few more communities, and there wouldn't be such horrific cultural upheaval.
There are as many flavors of Islam as there are nations of Islam--for example, Muhamad Ali's funeral was totally "out of synch" with a funeral in a religious Saudi community. The man would have been buried days ago, within 24 hours of his passing. He wouldn't have been placed in that big wooden box, he would have been wrapped in unseamed fabric and placed in the ground.
There is no "one way." But when you get fundies going at it, they sometimes think their way is the only way.
Technically, these people are travelers, too, so they would be forgiven if their Ramadan observances were not all that strict. You do the best you can, and while a traveller, you can break fast. Also, if it is too difficult to fast or if you mess up, you are allowed to do a "make up day" at a later time (yes, really).
It's all so silly to fight over this shit. The religion is ISLAM, from sa'alaam--PEACE, fachrissake! (To mix a few metaphors...)
