The Republicans are extremely adept at causing the Democrats to ultimately turn every weapon against themselves.
Had no one called for Franken's resignation, Newt would be using that as evidence that the Democrats are hypocrites that don't take sexual misconduct seriously.
We were going to face a fight either way - the difference being that had we stood by Franken instead of throwing him under the bus, we would still have an exemplary senator in office, instead of being less one strong warrior as we engaged the inevitable battle.
