On the one hand they have to justify having elected a president with far worse allegations against him. If they can make such "misbehavior" a normal thing that we should all accept and live with, its good for them in many ways.
On the other hand, at the moment a number of well-respected Democrats took the position that Franken should resign. Some people in the party think that was right, some people think it wasn't. The ones who think it wasn't (if this site is any indication) are angry enough to talk third party, and throw the rest of party under the bus in anger. If the republicans can keep fanning the flames here it draws attention from their own mess, and splitting our own party is a good move going into 2018.
