Several students were eating lunch in a North Carolina math teacher’s classroom when the teacher reportedly told one of them that “if she only had 10 days to live that she would kill all black people.” A student accused Cynthia Ramsey, the head of the math department at Camden County High School of making the remark. After the school district called in the local sheriff’s office to investigate this allegation, several students told investigators the same story, according to local news station WAVY-10 (although a few students have since come to Ramsey’s defense in a subsequent news report).

Although Ramsey spent more than a week suspended from her teaching duties, she is now back in the classroom, according to WAVY. According to a statement by the district’s superintendent, “At this point, our main concern is to investigate this incident thoroughly, and collect the facts. This is a personnel issue, and it is confidential until resolved. We are following protocol in this investigation and student and school employee investigations are confidential.”
