If Joe withdraws on his own before the official nomination the whole thing is moot, the Democratic Party has automatic access to ballots in all 50 states and the deadline to submit our official candidates isn’t until after the convention. Ohio changed their law so their previous August 5 deadline is no longer valid. The party has not yet put forth their official candidates.

The Heritage Foundation’s cynical argument is that Biden was the winner of the primaries and thus has the right to be on the ballot if he is in the race. If he steps aside they can’t make that argument. And if their argument had any merit we could lobby to have Trump/Vance stricken from ballots because Trump and the Repubs had not yet picked a running mate by those mythical deadlines.
