As far as I'm concerned there is no rationalization of events on either side, and I personally don't believe that what Hamas did has been or can be "erased," anymore than what Netanyahu did has been or can be "erased."
I don't need journalistic spin to be thoroughly disgusted by the whole affair, both sides.
