30. Republicans tend to vastly overestimate

how much they pay in taxes, and income tax in particular. Lots of people don't understand the concept of marginal rates. They think if they're in the "28% bracket" that means they pay 28% tax on every cent of their income. And just to add to the fun, some of them won't give up the idea even the face of proof to the contrary. I asked my dad to look at his 1040 and calculate what percentage he really paid in income tax, and he flatly refused to do it. "I already know how much it is," he says, but he's wrong and it's much less than he thinks. He wants to keep believing he's overtaxed. Why? I have no idea, but there's a Republican for you. I have no idea how to fix this.
