I fear this may have me banned from the AA group. UPDATED

But I have been wanting to get this off of my chest. I have not known how to express the words until a conversation between bravenak and I came up today. This is a cut and paste from that convo. But this is a message written with love and passion. I sincerely felt tears welling in my eyes as I wrote it. I am angry, because I want to love and be loved. But because of the institution of racism, I fear that some people are naturally divided because of conditioning. I don't want that.

So here is the excerpt that I wanted to share with all people, especially our black DUers. I hope you understand. And if I do step on toes, or pull the wrong string... Then I guess I'll be removed from this group. I do care though, and I hope that doesn't happen. The fact is, I have always felt a solidarity with the black community. I am a native of Durham, NC. And if any of you are familiar with the area, I am from East Durham. The one that everyone is afraid to drive around in at night. Fact is, I know what it's like on those streets at night. People are black, whoop dee fucking doo. They're people. I've attended predominantly black public schools all my life. I have lived amongst the culture and been taken care of and fed by black families.

So when I'm told that I can't feel a certain way, or express an opinion on race relations, because I am white, because of the color of my skin alone... I'm shaken. Here's the excerpt. Wish me luck.

"This shakes me

It honestly does.

It just says to me "I cannot respect another persons opinion because of their race."

I don't care if it's just that it's an opinion about racism, people of all creeds, races and genders are capable of enormous amounts of empathy. And we can all feel each others pain!

I just HATE the idea that my concern, my care, my good intention, my ideas can all be cast aside by someone like you because you just can't respect it coming out of my white mouth.

How is that helpful, or beneficial in anyway? To close your eyes and ears to anyone that isn't black when it comes to matters of race?

I know you can just say, "You haven't walked in my shoes and never can" but god damnit, I'm capable of seeing that walk, hearing that walk and FEELING that walk with my heart, my empathy. I have a love for others that is rare. As I've said before, I have cried over the trials of women and PoC.

I don't even care if you ridicule me and say that "oh look, the white persons feeling oppressed." I don't fucking care. I just want to help and be taken seriously because I am not fake, I am NOT just doing it for selfish reasons and I am NOT some lesser being. We are EQUAL. I just want that respect. I myself have never been racist. Why the fuck should an institution created by those god damn white bigots ruin the union that your people and my people could have?

I feel love! I want love! And I do NOT want divisiveness between us. We are all ONE PEOPLE. So that is IT. This is my final word on the fucking subject. My white self, shall not be divided from you or degraded by you because of a bigoted system created by ignorant white people. We are one, and that's where I stand. SOLIDLY."

I hope you understand. I do. If not, I'm sorry. I just have to bare the truth of how I feel.

EDIT: And in defense of bravenak and for context, she was only baring her true feelings as well. She felt that she couldn't trust somethings interpretation because of it's source being a white institution and likely a white man. I just.. hate that default divide between us. A divide that states something cannot be trusted because it's "white". That institution doesn't represent me.

UPDATE: bravenak actually just responded to me in private.

And I appreciated it fully. It was well said.

This OP was never intended to be against her and I hope she knows that. But unfortunately, I have made this about me too much.

I was well intentioned. And perhaps I bit off more than I could chew. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry everyone.

Steam Halloween Sale happening now!

And there's tons more than just horror games!

But I'm going to finally pick up my copy of Five Nights at Freddy's 4 JUST for this occasion. And maybe that title, Brighter Day.

What do you intend to get or even play on Halloween?

So Bernie's campaign managers said Hillary could be VP. BIG DEAL

Because all of Hillary's campaign managers are kneeling on their knees and praying "Oh lord Bernie is such a nice guy and we wish him the best and golly gee willikers!"

No. All campaign managers talk smack about their opponents.

They're all putting pins and needles into little voodoo dolls.

This hurt your feelings? You KNOW Hillary and her crew are saying the same shit.

And I bet Hillary can take this shit like it's nothing, so perhaps all you Hillary supporters should grow some thick skin and understand that a competitive ribbing like this is apart of the game. Hillary is the one actually IN the damn fight. This is nothing but a bit of competitive ribbing.

So calm down Hillary Supporters, I'm betting your candidate has thicker skin than any of you. Sheesh.

And yes, I, a Bernie supporter, just said that Hillary is a tough lady. IT'S TRUE!

All I'm saying is, the conquest for the presidency is a VERY HIGH STAKES COMPETITION. And thus, emotions are high. This kind of stuff, totally normal. Calm down.

No way, this can't be true

http://www.democraticunderground.com/110723726

This is posted without a source and google turns up nothing, but then again it could be because it's live or something? I don't have TV but...

Is MSNBC really saying that Bernie supporters are all be sexist and pulling the Bernie is sexist meme further?

This can't be true. What the hell?

I am apart of the silent majority.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1251734059

And these polls that keep coming out, literally suffocate the voice of myself and many others like me.

The fact that anyone waves these polls around as if they are concrete evidence of the general feel of all of the U.S. is like a cold shoulder to those of us who are never included in the polls.

People like ME. No, I've never voted before. I'm 27. I've never registered to a party before. I don't own a landline of any sorts.

It's as if politics in general is an old boy's club, where only the elite are allowed to participate. My generation is seemingly shunned while the established players are the only ones considered, and then their voices are treated as if they're the only ones that matter.

As a personal emotion, I feel like saying... Fuck these polls. They're wrong, they're exclusive and they're biased. /rant

There's a lot of me. UPDATED

Let's be clear.

Most political polls never ask me my opinion. And there's a lot of "me" out there.

-27 years old.

-Never voted before.

-Never been registered before.

-Have never owned nor do I own a landline telephone.

And it's my generation that majorly supports Bernie.

We are truly the silent majority.

Keep mocking us as the generation that doesn't show up to polls. Keep mocking us as we do our diligent research in a political spectrum that we're still getting familiar with. Please, disregard our voices through the means with which we are most familiar.

Bully us, please continue wasting your time. We'll just take note of that, keep our heads down and continue watching and learning how it's all working. And we'll make our decision accordingly.

Those polls don't tell anyone how to think or feel. They certainly don't reflect me or my generation with any sort of accuracy. In other words, those polls are old school methods.

They're fast becoming obsolete. Even pundits are noticing that those tools don't work so well anymore.

But I'm not wondering why, I know things that many people don't know about my generation. It's a first hand experience.

I'm sure there are those from my generation that are supporters of Hillary however, and I won't claim to speak for them.

But again, none of these polls speak for me or those that are like me.

So keep mocking us, it does so much good.

UPDATE: Oh and ONE MORE THING...

These polls that keep coming out, literally do suffocate the voice of myself and many others like me.

The fact that anyone waves these polls around as if they are concrete evidence of the general feel of all of the U.S. is like a cold shoulder to those of us who are never included in the polls.

People like ME. Again, there are A LOT of "me".

It's as if politics in general is an old boy's club, where only the elite are allowed to participate. My generation is seemingly shunned while the established players are the only ones considered, and then their voices are treated as if they're the only ones that matter.

So as a personal emotion, I feel like saying... Fuck these polls. They're wrong, they're exclusive and they're biased.

---ooo---

Just in case you're wondering, this thread was inspired by this debacle of insulting knee jerk reactions: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1251732383

Hillary needs to ride on Bill's coattails and Katy Perry's fame UPDATED

to pull in the crowds and the youth vote.

Meanwhile, Bernie pulls in massive crowds on message and integrity alone.

Just sayin'.

I'd rather vote for a serious candidate than an entertainer that does skits on SNL and has rallies in conjunction with pop music stars.

UPDATED: A user only needs to look below to see the replies that come from Hillary supporters.

All mockery, all insults, no sincere defense and no legitimate counter arguments.

Keep mocking people. It only shows that you haven't got much to back yourself up. It's what school bullies do.

HAPPY SANDERDAY!!! UPDATED

HAPPY SANDERDAY! Yes I'll say it again even though it was in the topic title!!!

Today is a special day! Why?

BECAUSE ITS SANDERDAY!

It's the weekend and you likely have something called free time.

And you know what I'm going to encourage you to do with that free time on SANDERDAY?

Get Bernie's name out there! Get people thinking, get Bernie known!

We may be seeing amazingly large rallies and good poll numbers but it is STILL too early to get comfortable and complacent!

Do anything you can think of, make art and post it online, go out and talk to your neighbors, paint your body blue and run screaming through the streets "I FEEL THE BERN!" (Don't let the cops catch you, then you won't be able to feel the bern as much)

If you're not feeling up to any of that, I'll help you out friend, it's easy!

I want you to go to http://www.feelthebern.org and go to their flyers page and print out some flyers. Just go to your local community center be it grocery store, laundromat, library or what have you and leave a stack there. Hell, hand them out and answer questions if you're feeling up to it.

Bernie is out there putting foot to ground every minute for us, and he understands that most of us are the working class with not much time on our hands.

But on SANDERDAY, we've got a chance to return the favor! Do something, do anything! Get Bernie's name on peoples minds!

Me? My Bernie yard sign is arriving in the mail today, along with my shirt and coffee mug. I'm going to put up all my signs while wearing my shirt and drinking my coffee. And if anyone happens to walk up from the very close sidewalk with a question, I'll answer!

Now go my fellow Berniacs! Spread the Bern, however you can!

HAPPY SANDERDAY EVERYONE!

UPDATE: I'm having quite the SANDERDAY people! My Bernie swag came in so I'm wearing my shirt, when I went out to meet the mailman, a car drove by and honked for Bernie!

I drove to the dump to get rid of trash and saw a car with a Bernie sticker I haven't seen before too! This is a great SANDERDAY!!!

October 23, 2015

i got my handpainted yard signs out again

this time during much better daylight!

people are slowing down to read them. no honks yet, but the exposure is just as important!

my signs let them know that there are two things.

1. someone other than Hillary is running

and

2. there are people locally that support Bernie!

FEEL THE BERN!!!
