Hillary Clintons supporters often argue that mainstream political reporters are incapable of covering her positivelyor even fairly. While it may be true that the political press doesnt always write exactly what Clinton would like, emails recently obtained by Gawker offer a case study in how her prodigious and sophisticated press operation manipulates reporters into amplifying her desired messagein this case, down to the very word that The Atlantics Marc Ambinder used to describe an important policy speech.
The emails in question, which were exchanged by Ambinder, a former Atlantic contributing editor, and Philippe Reines, Clintons notoriously combative spokesman and consigliere, turned up thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request we filed in 2012 (and which we are currently suing the State Department over). The same request previously revealed that Politicos chief White House correspondent, Mike Allen, promised to deliver positive coverage of Chelsea Clinton, and, in a separate exchange, permitted Reines to ghost-write an item about the State Department for Politicos Playbook newsletter. Ambinders emails with Reines demonstrate the same kind of transactional reporting, albeit to a much more legible degree: In them, you can see Reines blackmailing Ambinder into describing a Clinton speech as muscular in exchange for early access to the transcript. In other words, Ambinder outsourced his editorial judgment about the speech to a member of Clintons own staff.
On the morning of July 15, 2009, Ambinder sent Reines a blank email with the subject line, Do you have a copy of HRCs speech to share? His question concerned a speech Clinton planned to give later that day at the Washington, D.C. office of the Council on Foreign Relations, an influential think tank. Three minutes after Ambinders initial email, Reines replied with three words: on two conditions. After Ambinder responded with ok, Reines sent him a list of those conditions:
...
Ambinder made good on his word. The opening paragraph of the article he wrote later that day, under the headline Hillary Clintons Smart Power Breaks Through, precisely followed Reines instructions...

1992. Trying to be all tough on crime. Those were the days huh. We don't need voting advice from Bill Clinton.
In 2002 the Supreme Court decided executing the mentally ill is unconstitutional, cruel and unusual punishment. Yeah like we couldn't have figured that out.
Bill wanted to look tough for politics though. So yeah some nobody had to die.
So now Bill is the top surrogate, top attack dog, for Hillary. He he doesn't have any moral authority to tell anybody who to vote for. He should hang up that lumberjack shirt and call it a night.
When Bill Clinton flew home from NH to oversee the execution of a 'mentally retarded' man

Why Progressive Groups Have A Problem With Clinton On Social Security
Hillary Clinton refuses to rule out any and all benefit cuts to Social Security, angering leading progressive groups that have not endorsed a candidate in the Democratic primary -- and prompting a new challenge from Bernie Sanders.
The issue has arisen as Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), her remaining rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, debate who has stronger progressive bona fides and progressive groups call for a red-line pledge not to cut benefits.
A Clinton aide instead referred The Huffington Post to the statement on Social Security on the campaign's website, which says the former Secretary of State will "oppose closing the long-term shortfall on the backs of the middle class, whether through benefit cuts or tax increases."
The aide confirmed that the policy position on the site means she's firmly opposed to benefit cuts. She has no plans to cut benefits and, in fact, has a plan to expand them," the aide said.

Bernie gains huge credibility just by standing on the stage 1 on 1 with Hillary Clinton
Just the visual image of him standing up there next to one of the most powerful people in the world, a former Secretary of State, a top presidential candidate, and former first lady.
It signals he can be taken seriously. He is no longer a fringe candidate.
A lot of people will be more comfortable with him now. And it's easier to make a choice when there are just two. I'm sure we'll see more great endorsements like Mr. Danny Glover today. Which was huge. And most importantly, more voters.

Expect New Hampshire to be very close. Could be another virtual tie.
Previous polls had way to much spread between the candidates.
It's totally expected they will narrow.

Half the Foreign Policy Experts Signing Clinton's Anti-Sanders Letter Tied to Military Contractors
Hillary Clintons campaign released a letter this week in which 10 foreign policy experts criticized her opponent Bernie Sanders call for closer engagement with Iran and said Sanders had not thought through these crucial national security issues that can have profound consequences for our security.
The missive from the Clinton campaign was covered widely in the press, but what wasnt disclosed in the coverage is that fully half of the former State Department officials and ambassadors who signed the letter, and who are now backing Clinton, are now enmeshed in the military contracting establishment, which has benefited tremendously from escalating violence around the world, particularly in the Middle East.
