Bernie invited to Vatican by Pope. "The Idolatry of Money...The Worship of Money"

This reminds me of something that Sister Megan Rice said about Idolatry of Money (and Weapons):

“It’s idolatry, putting trust in weapons. And weapons are made like gods. … Weapons are always false gods because they make money. It’s profiteering.”

No, Trump is most certainly NOT qualified to be President. I don't care if he is over 35.

Openly stoking Racism, Xenophobia, and violence is a disqualifying factor.

White resentment is fueling opposition to gun control, researchers say

White resentment is fueling opposition to gun control, researchers say

Racial prejudice could play a significant role in white Americans' opposition to gun control, according to new research from political scientists at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In their paper, published in the journal Political Behavior in November, Alexandra Filindra and Noah J. Kaplan found that whites were significantly less likely to support gun control measures when they had recently looked at pictures of black people, than when they had looked at pictures of white people. The study, which surveyed 1,000 white respondents, also found that the higher they scored on a common measure of racial prejudice, the stronger negative effect the photos of black people had on the respondents' support for gun control.

Particularly with respect to the modern gun-rights movement that really took off in the '80s and '90s, the language "creates this distinction between 'law-abiding citizens' and 'criminals,'" Filindra says. She points to the type of language that's frequently used by gun rights groups who warn of ever-present threats by "predatory criminals" and a murkily-defined "they" who want to "take your guns away."

"Juxtapositions of 'law abiding citizens' and 'criminals' [are] evocative of racialized themes as crime has long been associated with blacks in the white mind," Filindra and Kaplan write.

Should Clinton, Sanders, and O'Malley all speak at the Democratic Convention?

I've seen some discussion here about which candidates should or should not be allowed to speak at the Democratic Convention.

So, it seemed like a good idea to have a poll on the issue.

DU is not the place to advocate gun violence at political rallies.

Do folks realize just how dangerous the actions they are proposing here on DU are?

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't agree with the poster but that is not a reason for a hide. I will state once again: You cannot HIDE posts because you do not AGREE with what is said. They have to break rules in order for a hide. No hide from me.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT

Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I just did not see this incident the way the alerter saw it.

Should the National Democratic Convention be threatened with OPEN CARRY the same way...

...that some so-called Democrats right here on DU threaten state universities with CAMPUS CARRY?

I'm damn tired of seeing MY university threatened here on DU with the Domestic Terrorism of CAMPUS CARRY.

If OPEN CARRY is so damn good in the eyes of so-called Democrats who post here with impunity, then why don't Democrats allow it at their national Democratic Convention?

Why is it OK to force it on MY university, but not on your own damn Convention?

Trump 'used as taunt in US colleges'

Trump 'used as taunt in US colleges'

Trend that started in US high schools is increasingly being reported on the country's university campuses, reports Josh Logue for Inside Higher Ed

Trump. It’s a name that’s evolved, in only the last few months, from referring only to a billionaire real estate magnate and reality TV star to the name of the leading Republican presidential candidate. And not just any candidate – a Republican front-runner who has no qualms about inviting the ire of women, black people, immigrants and Muslims.

Now, at several high schools around the US it appears that shouting “Trump” has evolved into a kind of taunt, used by largely white students at minority opponents during, say, basketball games.

Students at one school in Indiana held posters of the leading Republican presidential candidate and chanted, “Build a wall,” to which the heavily Hispanic rival school responded by chanting, “You’re a racist!” Several days earlier, in Iowa, a high school basketball team from a school that is half Hispanic faced chants of “Trump, Trump, Trump.”

Two recent incidents involving college students show that “Trump” as a taunt may not be a high school phenomenon.

Two Northwestern University students have been charged with vandalising a chapel on campus with spray paint, writing a swastika, slurs against black and gay people – and the word “Trump”. Days later, two students at Wichita State University – one Muslim and one Hispanic – were attacked at a gas station by a man who shouted, “Trump, Trump, Trump, we will make America great again. You losers will be thrown out of the wall.”
