Chrysler CEO calls out Romney over 'inaccurate' Jeep ads

Source: NBC News

Despite declaring his desire to stay out of this year’s presidential battle, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has found himself drawn into the fray as he responded to a series of comments and political ads by GOP contender Mitt Romney, which the CEO called "inaccurate."

The Italian-born Marchionne made it clear in a note sent to Chrysler employees that statements and advertising by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney suggesting the company was moving Jeep production from its assembly complex in Toledo, Ohio, to China was simply not true.

-snip-

“I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China,” he continued. “Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States and will constitute the backbone of the brand. … It is inaccurate to suggest anything different.”

In contradicting the assertions in the Republican ads, Marchionne said North American production was critical to reaching Chrysler’s goal of selling 800,000 Jeep vehicles by 2014.

“In fact, U.S. production of our Jeep models has nearly tripled since 2009 in order to keep up with global demand,” he said.

WOW! ABC NEWS: Hurricane Sandy: What Romney Says He'd Do to FEMA

Wow, MSM is actually doing a decent job focusing attention on this.... ABC does try to make a lame 'fairness' argument... but fails... this article is Bad for Romney... I hope many more follow.

Hurricane Sandy: What Romney Says He'd Do to FEMA

Though the presidential campaigns have been focused on Hurricane Sandy, the politically sticky topic of disaster relief is making its way to the forefront.

With Sandy bearing down on the East Coast, supporters of President Barack Obama are saying that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would gut FEMA, leaving it incapable of handling a massive hurricane or tornado.

How would Romney handle FEMA if he was elected president?

In a June 13, 2011 GOP primary debate, Romney suggested that states should assume a more significant role in disaster relief. The debate took place soon after a tornado devastated Joplin, Missouri and other communities, and moderator John King of CNN asked Romney whether states should take on a greater role in paying to repair and rebuild.

"Absolutely. Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that's the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that's even better," Romney said. "Instead of thinking in the federal budget, what we should cut -- we should ask ourselves the opposite question. What should we keep?"

When asked a follow up on whether disaster relief should shift to the states, Romney said: "We cannot -- we cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids," he said.

"It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we'll all be dead and gone before it's paid off," he added. "It makes no sense at all."

Romney did not go as far as some reports have suggested, which say he would shut down the agency entirely. But he has made it clear that he would shift more responsibility to the states or private agencies when it comes to disaster relief in an effort to reduce federal spending and the deficit.

"Gov. Romney believes that states should be in charge of emergency management in responding to storms and other natural disasters in their jurisdictions," said Romney campaign spokesman Yohana de la Torre. "As the first responders, states are in the best position to aid affected individuals and communities, and to direct resources and assistance to where they are needed most. This includes help from the federal government and FEMA."

Another Mother Jones Fundraiser Tape Released

From Mother Jones - lots and lots of audio at the link:

Romney to Business Crowd: Obama Sees You As an "Evil"

Ever since I revealed Mitt Romney's 47 percent rant, tips and tapes have come through the transom—including this and this. And another source who asked not to be identified just sent me an audio recording of a private Mitt Romney fundraiser from earlier this year. At this event, Romney didn't decry half of the nation, but he and Ann Romney each expressed disdain for President Barack Obama, with the Republican presidential candidate asserting that Obama considers businesspeople "a necessary evil" and his wife suggesting that the president was not a "grown-up."

On March 27, as Romney was still fighting for the Republican presidential nomination, he and Ann attended a fundraiser in Irvine, California, at the home of Michelle and David Horowitz, a former cement business owner who runs a private equity fund. The $1,000-per-plate outdoors luncheon (or $2,500 for those wanting to participate in a photo reception with Romney) drew much of Orange County's Republican elite.

from Raw Story:

Secret audio puts Mitt and Ann Romney’s ‘favorite family story’ in question

We may now know why Mitt and Ann Romney have been so reluctant to appear on late night talk shows.

In secretly recorded audio published Monday by Mother Jones, taken from a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser the couple attended in March, Mitt strangely contradicts a tale he and his wife have been telling since 2008, reported to be a “favorite family story” of the Romneys.

Speaking to supporters at the Irvine, California home of private equity fund owner David Horowitz, Romney responded to remarks about Ann when he explained:

"David, you mentioned Ann, and the fact that she insisted that I get in this race. That is the truth. I wanted to talk it over with her. And every time I’d say, ‘Let’s talk about the pros and cons,’ she’d say, ‘Talk to the hand, talk to the hand. We’re just doing this. We’ve got to do it.’ And so she absolutely insisted that I get in this because she was convinced that I was the only one that had the capacity to beat President Obama and then to get the country on the right track."

However, Romney’s claim about Ann’s never-gonna-question-it resolve appears to contradict what the couple has been telling audiences since 2008 — the most recent instance of which came during an interview Ann sat for last month with NBC host Jay Leno.

“Four years ago I made a video tape,” Ann told Leno. “On the video tape, I looked into the camera and I said, ‘Mitt, this is for you, sweetheart. I’m never doing this again,’ I showed it to him and he looked at it and he said, ‘You know, Ann, you say that after ever pregnancy.’ Which is true.”

It’s not the first time Ann has recounted that pivotal decision, either. The Los Angeles Times described the tale in August as a “favorite family story” for the couple, quoting her saying virtually the same thing she told Leno, and Mitt responding in the affirmative.

Obama Endorsed by La Opinion, Largest Spanish-Language Newspaper in the Country (Des Moines?)

While the MSM has been Squawking about the Dumbfuckedassbackwards Endorsement of Mittens by the Des Moines Register... they seemed to have overlooked Obama Being Endorsed by La Opinion, Largest Spanish-Language Newspaper in the Country...

I wonder which Endorsement Might actually have some influence on the Electorate?

From La Opinion:

Come November 6, there is no clearer choice for Hispanic voters than to re-elect President Barack Obama.

The comparison between Obama and GOP candidate Mitt Romney shows a sharp ideological contrast about the path that the United States should follow. They have two different visions on the economy and social issues. The president's vision is inclusive, forward-looking and promotes growth without leaving people behind. The former governor's vision is divisive and his proposals are the same that have led to a huge wealth gap.

During his first term, Obama rolled up his sleeves at all fronts. He worked to bandage a nation on the brink of a financial collapse triggered by the mortgage and foreclosure crisis. Obama also delivered on key commitments: He brought U.S. troops home from Iraq and oversaw the killing of Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks.

In the face of fierce opposition, the President managed to pass a health care bill that will extend benefits to many in our community. The Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, adds nine million Latinos currently without coverage to the health care rolls – a life-saving boost for a community that suffers the highest uninsured rates in the country.

The very idea of repealing this law, which Romney proposed, is nonsense.

On health care, there is also a big difference between both candidates when it comes to women's reproductive health. With Romney, women are at risk of losing access to important services in employer-provided health insurance, like the option to make decisions about their bodies and health.

Unemployment remains above the national average for Hispanics. However, since February 2009, this rate dropped from 11.1% to 9.9%. Obama has taken critical steps, such as investing billions of dollars in community colleges and job training programs that help Latinos access better jobs.

The President recognizes the needs of our community and the brilliance of the sons and daughter we put forward. His historic appointment of Justice Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court is the brightest example of this.

DAMN! Andrew Sullivan on ABC: Romney wins VA & FL? South's Electoral Map will = Confederate States

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/andrew-sullivan-to-abc-if-romney-wins-florida-and-va-its-the-confederacy/

During this Sunday’s edition of ABC’s This Week, Daily Beast writer Andrew Sullivan claimed that if Republican nominee Mitt Romney wins back Florida and Virginia in the upcoming 2012 presidential election, especially due to the white vote, then the South’s electoral map will look exactly like the pro-slavery United States Confederacy during the Civil War.

This observation came in response to host George Stephanopoulos noting that the latest polls show that six out of ten white Americans intend to vote for Romney.

Ann Romney: "Throw out" the American public education system.

Source: Good Housekeeping/Daily Kos

Ann Romney and First Lady Michelle Obama were interviewed for the November issue of Good Housekeeping magazine, just out. Our First Lady, of course was charming, positive and well-informed.

Mrs. Romney? Well . . .

Among her talking points, this:

I've been a First Lady of the State. I have seen what happens to people's lives if they don't get a proper education. And we know the answers to that. The charter schools have provided the answers. The teachers' unions are preventing those things from happening, from bringing real change to our educational system. We need to throw out the system.
