Name a song with "Blues" in the title

Summertime Blues -- Eddie Cochran

I'm gonna raise a fuss, I'm gonna raise a holler
About a-workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Every time I call my baby, try to get a date
My boss say "No dice, son, you gotta' work late"
Some times I wonder what I'm a-gonna' do
Cause there ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues

Today is Lee Marvin's birthday

Lee Marvin (Feb. 19, 1924 - Aug. 29, 1987) was born in New York City.
He attended Manumit School, a Christian socialist boarding school in Pawling, N.Y. during the late 1930s, and later attended St. Leo College Preparatory School, a Catholic school in St. Leo, Florida, after being expelled from several other schools for bad behavior.

In 1942, he joined the U.S. Marines, and was wounded in action in 1944 in the Battle of Saipan.
He was hit by machine gun fire which severed his sciatic nerve, and was then his again in the foot by a sniper.

In 1945, after a year of treatment in Naval hospitals, Marvin was given a medical discharge with the rank of private first class
(he had been a corporal years earlier but had been demoted after causing trouble).

Marvin's military awards include the Purple Heart Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the American Campaign Medal, the Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War ll Victory Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.

After the war, while working as a plumber's assistant at a local community theater in upstate New York, Marvin was asked to replace an actor who had fallen ill during rehearsals.

He then began an amateur Off-Broadway acting career in New York City and eventually made it to Broadway with a small role in the original production of Billy Budd.

He moved to Hollywood in 1950.
His acting debut was in "You're in the Navy Now" (1951)

Teacher confronts Paul Ryan at fundraiser: "You're here celebrating the death of 17 children"

PAUL RYAN RUSHED TO FLORIDA - FOR A WEEKEND OF FUNDRAISING

After the latest massacre of school children and teachers, House Speaker Paul Ryan crept into action.
Not to meet with the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and their families, but for a fundraising weekend at Key Biscayne, for "the NRCC's $15,000 PAC donor program, made up of business, trade association and law firm PACs who are vital to the NRCC."
At the first event of the weekend, Ryan demonstrated his concern for the community by having a primary school teacher who confronted him about guns kicked out of his party.

Maria Thorne, a Key Biscayne activist, said she noticed motorcade traffic clogging up her commute home from her job as a fifth grade teacher at iPrep Academy, where she spent the day reassuring scared students that she could keep them safe from a shooter.
Thorne, 49, heard a rumor that the motorcade might belong to Ryan, so she took a friend into the Ritz to investigate.
She said that men with lanyards at the entrance of a private area confirmed that it was a fundraiser for Ryan.

Thorne said she found Ryan in the middle of the room - "I shook his hand and everything," she said - and introduced herself as a teacher and Key Biscayner.
"Nice," the Republican congressman replied.

"Nice?" Thorne said. "You're here celebrating the death of 17 children."

After that, Thorne said, Ryan told her he "didn't want to talk politics" or argue.
When Thorne tried to continue, security escorted her out.
She chanted "No more guns" on her way out the door, she said.

Be Grateful - Change Your Life

Today, be grateful.
Be grateful for your favorite music, for movies that make you feel good, for your phone that connects you with people, for your computer, and for the electricity that lights up your life.
Be grateful for air travel that flies you everywhere.
Be grateful for the roads and traffic lights that keep the traffic in order.
Be grateful to those who built our bridges.
Be grateful for your pet, for your child, for your loved ones, for your eyes that enable you to read this.
Be grateful for your imagination.
Be grateful that you can think.
Be grateful that you can speak.
Be grateful that you can laugh and smile.
Be grateful that you can breathe.
Be grateful that you are alive!
Be grateful that you are You!

Be grateful that there are two words that can change your life.

Thank you! Thank You! Thank you!

May the joy be with you,

Rhonda Byrne

Any Phil Hendrie fans out there?...Favorite character(s)?

Phil Hendrie is a radio personality who has a repertoire of more than 30 distinct character voices which he brings out to have fun with listeners who believe the characters are real.

Some of my favorite Phil Hendrie characters are:
- Bobbie & Steve Dooley
- Ted Bell
- The Korean War vet
- Jay Santos from the "Citizens Auxiliary Police"
- Bud Dickman, who works at the station with Phil
- Raj Feneen (The 1st character Phil invented)
- Steve Bozell
- General Johnson Jameson, who usually appears as a guest of Art Bell (voice done by Phil)

He used to be on KFI-640 AM in LA, where I used to be able to hear him 5 nights a week.
I think the only way to hear him these days is via "Podcast"

There is a 5 minute You Tube video showing Phil doing his show called:

Today is Ernest Shackleton's birthday

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (Feb. 15, 1874 - January 2, 1922), was a polar explorer who led three British expeditions to the Antarctic.

After the race to the South Pole ended in December 1911 with Roald Amundsen's conquest, Shackleton turned his attention to the crossing of Antarctica from sea to sea, via the pole.
To this end he made preparations for what became the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition,
(1914-1917).

Disaster struck this expedition when it's ship, "Endurance," became stuck in pack ice and was slowly crushed before the shore parties could be landed.
The crew escaped by camping on the sea ice until it disengaged, then by launching the life boats to reach Elephant Island.
Eventually, Shackleton and 5 other crew members sailed one of the lifeboats several hundred miles to the island of South Georgia.
Unable to reach the whaling station on the far side of South Georgia by boat, Shackleton and 2 others traveled across South Georgia on foot...an incredible feat that no one had ever accomplished before or since, until the 1950s.

An excellent book about this expedition is called:
"Endurance" by Alfred Lansing
