Pelosi's stylist disputes salon owner's claims it was not a 'setup'

AN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Nancy Pelosi's stylist is now weighing in on the controversy surrounding the Speaker of the House's visit to a San Francisco hair salon on Monday. In a lengthy statement, an attorney representing Jonathan DeNardo, claims: "The fact that Ms. Kious (the owner) is now objecting to Speaker Pelosi's presence at eSalon, and from a simple surface-level review of Ms. Kious' political leanings, it appears Ms. Kious is futhering a set-up of Speaker Pelosi for her own vian aspirations."

Security footage, reported on FOX News, showed Pelosi with wet hair and with a mask pulled down to her neck, appearing to skirt the city's COVID-19 restrictions....

DeNardo's attorney claims the salon has been operating illegally during the stay-at-home orders, as far bask as April 2020. The lawyer claims to have video and photographs of Kious allegedly styling client's hair, ignoring social distancing guidelines and not wearing protective equipment. Also writing, "Ms. Kious has been actively encouraging and almost forcing stylists who operate at eSalon to violate such orders for her own financial beneift in the form of receiving lease payments."

Speaker Pelosi on Wednesday addressed the controversy surrounding the video of her recent visit to a San Francisco salon.

"I take responsibility for trusting the word of a neighborhood salon that I've been to over the years many times, and that when they said that we're able to accommodate people one person at a time and that we could set up that time, I trusted that," said Pelosi at an event focused on the pandemic's impact on education.

Orlando Magic, city and county announce Amway Center to be polling location

With a push from the Orlando Magic, Amway Center is about to become the largest early-voting site in Orange County.

And one of the Magic’s tallest players could be welcoming voters as they walk in.

The arena will be open to Orange County residents for early voting from Monday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, officials announced on Wednesday. All registered voters from Orange County will be able to cast their ballot at Amway, which will be one of 20 early-voting sites in the county for the 2020 general election.

Magic center Mo Bamba first raised the idea of utilizing the space available at Amway, and the team went to work with the city of Orlando, which owns and operates the arena, Orange County and the Orange County Supervisor of Elections to achieve the goal.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Announces COVID-19 Diagnosis for Himself & His Family

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced he and his family were recently diagnosed with the coronavirus (COVID-19).

In an 11-minute Instagram video, Johnson revealed his family is recovering from the virus. He also discussed his daughters' symptoms, as well as how they contracted it. "I wanted to give you guys a little helpful update on some of the things that I've been going through on my end for the past two and half to three weeks now," he said to open the video. "My wife Lauren, as well as my two baby girls, and myself, we have all tested positive for COVID-19."

"I wish it was only me that tested positive, but it wasn't. It was my entire family," he continued. "So this one was a real kick in the gut. But I am happy to tell you guys that we, as a family, are good. We are on the other end of it. We are on the other side. We are no longer contagious, and we are -- thank God -- we are healthy. We've gotten through COVID-19 stronger and healthier."

Texas Supreme Court temporarily blocks Harris County from sending mail-in ballot applications to all

The Texas Supreme Court has temporarily blocked Harris County from sending mail-in ballot applications to all its voters for the November election.

The decision Wednesday came in response to a lawsuit filed days ago by Republicans in the state’s largest county. Attorney General Ken Paxton has since launched his own legal challenge to the plan.

Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins announced last month that the county would send applications to its more than 2.4 million registered voters, an effort to make it easier to participate in the election during the coronavirus pandemic. After being sued by Paxton, Hollins said he would only send applications to voters 65 and older, who are eligible to vote by mail under state law, pending the litigation. A spokesperson said Wednesday that those plans haven't changed.

In June, ahead of the July primary runoff, Hollins’ office sent out roughly 380,000 mail-in ballot applications to voters over 65, a spokesperson said. This time, it will send around 295,000.

Democrats finally learn to 'work the refs'.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Wednesday suggested there should be a live fact-check feature during his upcoming debates with President Trump, something he acknowledged may not be feasible.

"I’ve begun to prepare by going over what the president has said, and the multiple lies he’s told," Biden said during a news conference in Delaware when asked about how he's preparing for the debates.

"What I’d love to have is a crawler at the bottom of the screen, a fact-checker as we speak," he continued. "If we really wanted to do something, I think that would make a great, great debate if everything both of us said was instantly fact-checked."

Biden acknowledged the idea may not be feasible before adding that he planned to use the debates "to lay out as clearly as I can what I think we have to do to bring this country back."

Democratic lawmakers are pushing for questions about climate change to be included in the upcoming presidential debate, renewing a frequent complaint from environmentalists that the topic has been overlooked in previous debates.

“In 2016, there was not a single question on climate change in any of the four presidential and vice-presidential debates. This cannot happen again,” according to a letter signed by 70 lawmakers that was spearheaded by Rep. Mike Levin (D-Calif.).

“The Commission on Presidential Debates must make climate change a centerpiece of the upcoming presidential and vice-presidential debates," it adds. "Given the dire nature of the crisis, we ask that you break precedent and publicly call on the moderators to include climate in the topics that will be addressed during the debates.”

The push to ensure a focus on climate change during the debates comes after the topic was frequently overshadowed by questions about health care, the economy and international affairs during the Democratic primary.

A number of environmental groups such as Sunrise Movement and Greenpeace pushed for a debate specifically dedicated to climate change, but the call was rejected by the party.

Biden to meet with family of Jacob Blake in Kenosha

Joe Biden will meet with the father of Jacob Blake, the Black man shot by police multiple times in Kenosha, Wis., late last month, when the former vice president travels to the city on Thursday.

Biden's campaign announced the visit in a press release on Wednesday. A campaign spokesman later confirmed to The Hill that the Democratic nominee would meet with Jacob Blake Sr. during his trip.

The meeting comes after President Trump said he refused to meet with the Blake family during a trip earlier this week due to their request that a family attorney be present for the conversation.

“I spoke with the pastor, wonderful man, the family’s pastor. I thought it would be better not to do anything where there are lawyers involved,” Trump told reporters on Monday ahead of his visit.

“They wanted me to speak, but they wanted to have lawyers involved, and I thought that was inappropriate, so I didn’t do that,” the president said. “I may at some point do that, but they did have a lawyer that wanted to be on the phone, and I said, 'No, that’s inappropriate,' but I just gave my best regards.”
