Federal Investigators Wiretapped Manafort

“U.S. investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.”

“The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Trump.”

Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that prosecutors told Manafort they planned to indict him when they raided his home in July.

“Dispensing with the plodding pace typical of many white-collar investigations, Mr. Mueller’s team has used what some describe as shock-and-awe tactics to intimidate witnesses and potential targets of the inquiry.”

Hillary's quote was taken out of context

I am listening to Fresh Air this moment and Hillary said there is no legal basis to challenge the resultis, but one can question the moral legitimacy of Trump's victory based on what we know about what happened before Election Day.

Resistance begins at the local level. Bin Qamruzzaman for Mayor of Novi, MI

I am running for Mayor of Novi because I want to bring more transparency to the Mayor's office. Novi is a growing and thriving community. We are diverse in industry as well as in people. I too was born and raised in Novi and have always considered this my home. I have a long background in being responsible for the safety and lives for the people in this country. I have also put myself on the line for the safety of the people.

I believe government is for the people and must be accountable to the people. Transparency in government shows the public that those who are accountable for your decisions are visible to the people. Novi currently does not have open Mayor's office hours and no longer distributes the monthly Novi newsletter, which allows residents to get a closer look at the city expenses. Therefore, I will reinstate monthly Mayor office hours and the Novi newsletter. Transparency and fair government will be the two most important issues in my administration.

Ohio fireman suspended for saying he would rescue a dog from a burning building before saving a n..

Another "Economic Anxiety" voter:

A fireman from Franklin Township in Ohio has been suspended for posting on Facebook that he would rather save a dog than a “n*gger” during an emergency.

According to WHIO, volunteer fireman Tyler Roysdon has been suspended over the racist Facebook post which has since been taken down.

The report notes that Roysdon wrote that if he had to choose between saving a dog and an African American man from a burning building, he’d save the dog’s life because “one dog is more important than a million n*ggers.”

Despite being a volunteer, the Ohio firefighter is paid for when his services are needed — but will not be called while his case is under review.

“Recently, a Franklin Township volunteer firefighter posted unacceptable remarks on social media. Upon gaining knowledge of this information, Fire Chief Steve Bishop immediately contacted the firefighter and directed the comments be removed. The firefighter was suspended without pay until the Board of Township Trustees could meet to determine a course of action. Chief Bishop does not have the authority to terminate employees. Termination of any township employee requires a vote by the Board of Trustees,” a statement from the township read.

California Assembly approves presidential primary in March

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California Assembly has voted to move the 2020 presidential primary to March to give the nation’s most populous state more influence in choosing nominees.

The bill approved Friday will now go to the state Senate where it’s expected to pass. Gov. Jerry Brown has not said whether he’ll sign it.

The bill would move the presidential primary to the Tuesday after the first Monday in March — three months earlier than the June contest held in 2016, when Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were already the presumptive nominees.

Armed neo-Confederates descend on Virginia to defend statue at all cost'

Richmond, Virginia is bracing for violence as neo-Confederates target the former capitol of the Confederacy less than one month after Heather Heyer was killed in what many are calling an act of domestic terrorism.

CSAII: The New Confederate States of America is planning an unpermitted “Heritage not Hate” rally to defend Richmond’s Robert E. Lee Monument following the deadly “Unite the Right” rally to defend Charlottesville’s Robert E. Lee statue.

“I hope nobody loses their lives tomorrow, on either side, I really do,” CSA II organizer and Three Percenter militia organizer Tara Brandau told WTVR. “That’s not why we are here.”

Superman saved undocumented workers from a racist and conservative media is mad about it

The latest issue of Action Comics No. 987 contains a scalding scene: A white supremacist, fed up with a company that just laid him off, decides to load up his machine gun and kill the undocumented workers he believes took his job. Luckily, in the nick of time, Superman arrives to shield the would-be victims from a storm of bullets:

Still, the action of preventing a mass murder, which seems in line with Superman’s moral compass, hasn’t come without controversy. Fox News has a column calling the Man of Steel a “propaganda tool for the defenders of illegal aliens,” and the right-wing website Breitbart derided him as “Social Justice Supes.”

Their argument is that comic book writers and artists have inserted a pro–illegal immigrant agenda into their comics, and that it’s part of a larger trend of politicizing comic books.

But there are a couple of things to note about the issue.

The first is that the “undocumented workers” designation in Action Comics No. 987 comes from the homicidal white supremacist — an unreliable narrator. It could be interpreted that he’s shooting at the workers at his company who aren’t white because he’s stereotyping and projecting his bigotry onto them.

Transgender troops will be allowed to re-enlist for now: report

The Pentagon reportedly issued new guidance on Friday allowing transgender troops currently serving in the military to re-enlist in the coming months as the department weighs how to enforce President Trump's broader ban on their service.

Defense Secretary James Mattis said in a memo to military leaders on Friday that the Pentagon would convene a high-level panel led the deputy Defense secretary and the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to determine how to enact Trump's ban on transgender military service, according to The Associated Press.

For now, transgender service members can continue to serve and receive medical care, Mattis said in the memo, a summary of which was obtained by the AP.

Trump announced in July on Twitter that he would reimplement a ban on transgender people serving in the military. A longstanding ban was lifted under the Obama administration last year.

The president's announcement drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, and prompted confusion at the Pentagon.
