TV CEO Insults Emilia Clarke In Front Of 'Game Of Thrones' Fans -- And It Does Not Go Well

An Australian television company has apologized after its chief executive referred to actor Emilia Clarke as a “short, dumpy girl” at a premiere this week.

Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany made the eyebrow-raising remark before a screening of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” spinoff series, “House of the Dragon,” on Tuesday. According to Australian news outlet Crikey, Delany was describing how he was late to begin watching “Game of Thrones,” in which Clarke portrayed Daenerys Targaryen.

“I was like, ‘What’s this show with the short, dumpy girl walking into the fire?’” he reportedly said, referring to Daenerys.

The CEO’s apparent attempt at a joke, however, landed with a thud among the night’s attendees. “It felt like he was expecting us to laugh along,” one attendee told Crikey, “but people in the room were obviously shocked by it.”

Film critic Travis Johnson, who attended the premiere, echoed that sentiment.

“Yeah, I was there for this, and turned to my mate for clarification as I simply didn’t believe someone would say that on mic,” he tweeted.

By Wednesday, a Foxtel spokesperson issued a statement attempting to backpedal on Delany’s words.

Far-Right Extremists Are Threatening to 'Execute' Doctors at a Children's Hospital

Boston Children’s Hospital said on Tuesday that its staff has faced a flood of violent threats and harassment sparked by a false claim made by the viral LibsofTikTok Twitter account.

The account, run by Brooklyn real estate agent Chaya Raichik, tweeted on August 11 that “Boston Children's Hospital is now offering ‘gender-affirming hysterectomies’ for young girls.” The claim has been widely debunked by fact-checking groups—but as is typical in anti-trans rhetoric, facts rarely matter, and the claims were shared widely on right-wing social media accounts.

As a result, the hospital and its staff have faced a torrent of abuse.

“In response to commentary last week critical of our Gender Multispecialty

Service (GeMS) Program, Boston Children's Hospital has been the target of a large volume of hostile internet activity, phone calls, and harassing emails, including threats of violence toward our clinicians and staff,” the hospital said in a statement posted to Twitter.

The hospital did not specify where the threats were coming from, but VICE News has uncovered some violent threats posted on far-right and extremist platforms targeting the doctors.

AK-AL: Palin's Former In-Laws Back Her Rival

The parents of Sarah Palin's ex-husband held an election-eve party for her opponent for Alaska's open House of Representatives seat on Monday night.

Jim and Faye Palin hosted the event for Republican Nick Begich III at their home in Wasilla. More than 100 people were in attendance, according to Must Read Alaska.

Palin, who gave up the Alaska governorship to be late Senator John McCain's running mate on the 2008 GOP presidential ticket, is one of three people running to replace late Rep. Don Young.

Young, who won Alaska's only House seat in 1973, died in March at the age of 88.

Palin's attempt at a political comeback is endorsed by Donald Trump - but it appears she does not have the support of her ex-in laws.

Oscars apologises to Native American woman booed off stage nearly 50 years ago

The Oscars has apologised to a Native American woman who was booed off stage nearly 50 years ago when she appeared to refuse an award that Marlon Brando won for The Godfather.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures said that it will host Sacheen Littlefeather, 75, for an evening of “conversation, healing and celebration” on September 17.

The event will feature a formal apology to the actress who suffered decades of abuse within the industry following the actress’s appearance at the 1973 Oscars.

Littlefeather famously took to the stage to decline Brando’s best actor award at his request.

Instead, she gave a 60-second speech regarding the stereotypes and mistreatment of Native Americans in the entertainment industry, and the 1973 Wounded Knee protest in South Dakota.
