Life must be pretty good when you can afford to sit out this election

Actress Susan Sarandon, who supported Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primaries, makes it clear that she is not voting for Donald Trump and is waiting to be “convinced” about Hillary Clinton.

"I am not voting for Donald Trump ... so far nothing has happened that will make me vote for Hillary Clinton either — I’m waiting to be convinced," Sarandon, in Washington Wednesday to protest the construction of an oil pipeline on North Dakota tribal lands, tells The Hill's Molly K. Hooper in an interview.

Sarandon also says she is "encouraging people to vote for progressives in the House and Senate."
Watch the video above to hear Sarandon in her own words.

Private Immigrant Detention Firm Gave $45K to Trump Fundraising Group

The political arm of one of the country’s leading operators of federally contracted immigrant detention facilities donated $45,000 last month to a joint fundraising committee supporting Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, according to a recent Federal Election Commission filing.

The political action committee representing The GEO Group, Inc., made the donation on July 27 to the Trump Victory fund, a joint committee also supporting the Republican National Committee and 11 state parties. Donors to GEO's PAC are almost entirely employees of the Boca Raton, Florida-based company.

The GEO Group contracts with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Justice Department, and foreign, state and local governments to operate detention and correctional facilities around the country. In 2015, it oversaw 64 facilities comprising 75,145 beds, according to an annual report.

Poll: Perry leads Cruz in hypothetical Senate match-up

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) leads Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in a hypothetical 2018 Senate primary match-up, a new poll finds.

The survey from left-leaning Public Policy Polling found Perry leading his former GOP presidential rival by 9 points, 46 percent to 37 percent, with 18 percent undecided, according to the Texas Tribune.

Perry is the only potential challenger that tops Cruz in the poll. Cruz holds a 22-point lead over Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) and a 32-point lead over Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas).

In a general election match-up with Democrats, the poll also showed Perry leading Housing Secretary Julián Castro, as well as former gubernatorial nominee Wendy Davis by 12 points.

What should Hillary do after Labor Day?

Should she go big and try to win places like Arizona and Georgia, or should she keep returning to Pennsylvania and New Hemisphere to help our Senate candidates 9although we do have a competitive race in AZ)?

She invited the Bigot-in-Chief to her biggest event of the year. I hope we don't forget this in 2020.

Republicans already plotting to obstruct Clinton Administration

Hillary Clinton has managed to win support from Republicans without conceding any part of the progressive economic agenda she outlined during the Democratic primary.

But with fall approaching and momentum on Clinton’s side, Democrats and Republicans alike are looking over the horizon to a thornier reality: if elected, Clinton would likely become the first Democrat since Grover Cleveland to enter office without control of both houses of Congress.

That means the bipartisan show of support she has now -- thanks to Donald Trump and the “alt-right,” conspiracy-driven campaign Clinton attacked Thursday in Reno -- is likely to evaporate as soon as the race is called. If she wins the presidency, Clinton would likely enjoy the shortest honeymoon period of any incoming commander-in-chief in recent history, according to Washington strategists, confronting major roadblocks to enacting her ambitious agenda, as well as Republican attacks that have been muted courtesy of the GOP nominee.

“It will be the defining fact of her presidency,” Jonathan Cowan, president of the moderate think tank Third Way, said of Clinton's problem of entering office with a divided Congress. “It’s unprecedented."

‘Supergirl’ Season 2 Will Be Closer To The Comics

For a while it looked like Supergirl might not get a second season. The switch to The CW gave it another chance, and it could allow the show to grow. While they have a strong first season to build upon, they’re now part of the wider CW/DC multiverse. It seems like that’s going to lead to the new season being truer to the comics.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg was talking with Collider about the second season. The biggest change is probably the introduction of Superman to the show. It sounds like adding Clark Kent is part of making the show closer to the original comic stories:

In some ways, the show is a little bit more comic book-y, with the addition of Superman and some of the things we’re trying, but it’s also gotten richer, with some of the characters and what they’ll be exploring this season.

One other way they’re doing that is by tapping in to their extensive DC Universe. With three other series on The CW, there will be plenty of crossover stories. That’s something which was inspired by the comics Kreisberg read when he was younger:

That’s the fun of comic books, and that’s what was always so great about them for us, when we were kids. Even when DC did “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” or Marvel did “Secret Wars,” they made them seem like these big, giant events, and that’s what we try to emulate in the crossovers.

I do NOT want this man's vote.

The former George W. Bush administration official who is often referred to as the “architect” of the Iraq War says he will likely end up voting for Hillary Clinton for president this fall.

Paul Wolfowitz, the deputy secretary of defense under President Bush from 2001-2005, told the English-language version of the German newspaper Der Spiegel that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump represents a security risk for the U.S. and that his praise for strongmen like Russian President Vladimir Putin and former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is “pretty disturbing.”

“The only way you can be comfortable about Trump's foreign policy is to think he doesn't really mean anything he says. That's a pretty uncomfortable place to be in,” Wolfowitz said. “Our security depends on having good relationships with our allies. Trump mainly shows contempt for them.”

Because he is so uncomfortable with Trump, Wolfowitz said he would likely vote for Clinton, albeit grudgingly.
