The CW announces four-way crossover with Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl

Now that Supergirl has moved to The CW, the network is gearing up for an epic four-way crossover with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Ahead of its upfront presentation on Thursday, CW chief Mark Pedowitz touted Supergirl’s move from CBS to The CW. “Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December,” he told reporters, later following up by calling the event “our biggest one ever.”

Pedowitz then made it official during The CW’s upfront presentation. “Next season, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and now Supergirl will join forces in our annual crossover event, our biggest ever,” he said.

The news is unsurprising. It’s become an annual tradition for Greg Berlanti’s super series to cross over in the fall. It started when Arrow first introduced Grant Gustin as Barry Allen in season 2 of Arrow, following up the next season with a crossover between Arrow and The Flash. The two shows then crossed over with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow ahead of its launch, while The Flash also crossed over with Supergirl on CBS.

Calista Flockhart Future On ‘Supergirl’ Remains Unknown

While headlines have been ongoing about all things Supergirl and The CW related, one character’s fate on the show is still up in the air.

CW President, Mark Pedowitz commented on the future of Calista Flockhart (Cat Grant) and if she would be back on board for the second season of Supergirl.

“We are very happy to have her. There are ongoing discussions. We are thrilled that she wants to continue on the show, and we are thrilled to have her in whatever capacity.”

Rumors have circulated that Flockhart might be able to fly to Vancouver periodically, filming scenes for multiple episodes at one time. Reducing her overall travel time for the show.

After an average season one within the ratings, it made scene that the show would move to this network. Supergirl comes from executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Ali Adler.

The show will be moving to Vancouver, Canada as previously reported when discussions had just first started. While not part of the official announcement, it is safe to say that they will somehow be merging Supergirl into The Flash/Arrow/Legends of TomorrowUniverse through something like a Flashpoint or Crisis event. There had been concerns that due to some budget cuts that will be coming that some cast members would be trimmed off the main group, but it appears that everyone is coming back for the second season.

Legends of Tomorrow to introduce Justice Society of America in season 2

Ultimately, the team would need to kill Vandal across three different time periods — which they succeeded in doing, but not everyone decided to stick with the team. In the wake of Vandal’s death, Kendra and Carter decided to start their life free from fear. While the Legends lost a part of the team, they gained a new ally. Patrick J. Adams’ mysterious DC Comics character was revealed to be Hourman, who crash-landed in another version of the Waverider. This version of Hourman is Rex Tyler. In the comics, Rex discovered a drug that basically gave him superhuman powers for one hour at a time.

“He’s not just Hourman, he announces himself as a member of the Justice Society of America,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells EW. “We’re planting a big flag that season 2 of Legends will not only feature the Legends of Tomorrow, but also the JSA.”

However, Guggenheim is shy to say which members of the JSA will be joining him next season, especially when it comes to a familiar JSA member from the comics: The Flash (portrayed in the hit CW series by Grant Gustin). “I can’t go spoiling stuff they’re doing on Flash,” Guggenheim says. “Phil Klemmer, Geoff Johns, Dan Evans, and I sat down in a room at DC with a list, and it’s a long list, of the members of the JSA. One of the more fun afternoons I’ve had recently is sitting down and actually composing our JSA lineup, our perfect JSA lineup. That was a blast to do.”

As for axing off this season’s big bad, “It was always our plan to kill Vandal,” Guggenheim says. “We gave ourselves the out of, ‘Well, if we come up with a really good idea, then we don’t necessarily have to kill him,’ but it felt right. For us, the thing that was the discovery was the way we killed him was different from our original plan — not with whether or not to kill Vandal, but how we decided to kill Vandal.

Lawmaker Briefly Proposes Regulation To Ensure Strippers Are Young And Trim

A Louisiana lawmaker apparently keen on wasting people’s time and skeeving everyone out killed two birds with one stone during a Wednesday state House session by suggesting an age and weight limit for strippers.

While discussing a bill that would raise the minimum age of exotic dancers from 18 to 21, Rep. Kenny Havard (R) briefly proposed an amendment to cap dancers at 28 years old and 160 pounds.

Not all of Havard’s statehouse colleagues were amused. Rep. Julie Stokes (R) said she had “never been more repulsed to be part of the House of Representatives.”

“I can’t even believe the behavior. I hear derogatory comments about women, I see women get treated differently than men,” Stokes said, calling Havard’s proposal “utterly disrespectful and disgusting.”

Other lawmakers, apparently unchastened by Stokes’ remarks, left dollar bills at the podium (which later prompted a confused lawmaker speaking on a different bill to ask why there was money strewn around).

Havard immediately withdrew his amendment (which would likely be illegal anyway) after a flurry of criticism. But he told The Advocate newspaper he didn’t regret his remarks, because he was just trying to satirize the original legislation for its overregulation.

TPM: What Exactly Did Sanders Supporters Do At The Nevada Dem Convention?

There has been disagreement between Sanders supporters and those critical of their behavior Saturday over how violent the state convention actually was, and who is to blame. Descriptions of the days events' recount shouting, interruptions, crude names and epithets being lobbed at party officials, and an evening that culminated in a group of Sanders backers rushing towards the stage and even flipping chairs. Only some of those incidents could be backed up by video evidence posted by those at Saturday's convention and other reports.

Nevada Democratic Party chair Roberta Lange was called a "fucking bitch" and other derogatory names for moving forward with the day's motions, while screams of "who gives a shit" rattled the convention hall during a keynote speech by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA). There were a few small scuffles that brought security and medics to the scene, and at the end of the night, some Sanders supporters did pack around the stage, angry the day had been adjourned, as the convention organizers tried to clear out the room. At least one reporter observed chair flipping, though video evidence of such has been harder to pin down.

Beyond the flash points that some are warning are a precursor of what could be trouble at the national convention, here is how the day devolved into chaos.......

According to a CNN report, a top Sanders campaign official had encouraged his supporters at a meeting prior to the convention to "take over" the proceedings.

"You should not leave," Joan Kato, the national delegates director, said in audio surfaced by CNN. "I'm going to repeat that, unless you are told by someone from the campaign ... that you can leave, you should not leave."

It Comes From the Very Top

Over the last several weeks I've had a series of conversations with multiple highly knowledgable, highly placed people. Perhaps it's coming from Weaver too. The two guys have been together for decades. But the 'burn it down' attitude, the upping the ante, everything we saw in that statement released today by the campaign seems to be coming from Sanders himself. Right from the top.

This should have been obvious to me. The tone and tenor of a campaign always come from the top. It wasn't obvious to me until now.

This might be because he's temperamentally like that. There's some evidence for that. It may also be that, like many other presidential contenders, once you get close it is simply impossible to let go. I don't know which it is. That would only be my speculation. But this is coming from Bernie Sanders. It's not Weaver. It's not driven by people around him. It's right from him. And what I understand from knowledgable sources is that in the last few weeks anyone who was trying to rein it in has basically stopped trying and just decided to let Bernie be Bernie.

Sanders speech tonight was right in line with his statement out this afternoon. He identified the Democratic party as an essentially corrupt, moribund institution which is now on notice that it must let 'the people' in. What about the coalitions Barack Obama built in 2008 and 2012, the biggest and most diverse presidential coalitions ever constructed?

Sanders narrative today has essentially been that he is political legitimacy. The Democratic party needs to realize that. This, as I said earlier, is the problem with lying to your supporters. Sanders is telling his supporters that he can still win, which he can't. He's suggesting that the win is being stolen by a corrupt establishment, an impression which will be validated when his phony prediction turns out not to be true. Lying like this sets you up for stuff like happened over the weekend in Nevada.

As I said, it all comes from the very top.

Bernie Sanders can’t afford to stay silent any longer

One would think that Sanders, the man who continues to insist he’s the only Democrat who can beat Trump, would speak up forcefully to condemn the actions of his supporters in Nevada. If nothing else, it’s the right thing to do.

Instead, much like Trump when pressed about the violent streak within his ranks, he has largely weaseled out of his responsibility to make it clear to his supporters that this is not acceptable behavior.

The Sanders campaign has been noticeably silent about the events on social media – the main way the candidate communicates with his supporters.

When asked by reporters, his campaign spokesman, Michael Briggs, insists that Sanders does not “condone violence or encourage violence or even threats of violence.” Then in the next breath, his campaign abdicates all responsibility for what happened in Nevada, offers excuses and shifts the blame.

Briggs says the campaign “had no role in encouraging the activity that the party is complaining about.” He even implied to The New York Times that Democratic Party itself is partly responsible for the tense atmosphere because it’s not doing a good enough job of being welcoming to “people who have been energized and excited by (the Sanders) campaign.”

Adding fuel to the conspiracy fire, the campaign still is considering whether to challenge the outcome of the Nevada delegate count.

Jane Sanders' former college closes over burden of deal she made

WASHINGTON (CNN) Burlington College, the small private liberal arts school in Vermont once headed by Jane Sanders -- wife of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders -- has announced it will close its doors permanently at the end of this month due to the "crushing weight" of debt incurred from a real estate deal during her time as president.

In a statement provided to CNN, the college said that all of its current students will be able to "continue their education at a neighboring college and graduate as scheduled." As far as students who were planning on attending the school in the fall, they will be "welcomed to colleges within Vermont, of their choosing."

Jane Sanders was president of the school from 2004 to 2011 -- a tumultuous and highly contentious period in the college's history.

Sanders' plan to raise the small school's profile and attract more students was to purchase land for a new campus, 33 acres on the shores of Lake Champlain. The college of approximately 200 students planned on using the new buildings as "offices, labs, kitchens, library, gym, café, and lounges" in addition to housing for 17 students and undeveloped lake front property.

Documents obtained by CNN showed that the school applied for a $6.7 million loan in order to purchase the property from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington. The school also borrowed $3.5 million from the Diocese itself.

A Sanders campaign spokesman, Michael Briggs, told CNN that the campaign has "no comment at the moment."

Sanders' time at the school, in particular this land deal, has come under close scrutiny as her husband's presidential campaign gained steam. A local Vermont publication, "VT digger", reported that Sanders overstated pledged donation amounts when the school applied for the loan.

The loan application, provided to CNN by the Vermont Educational and Health Building Financing Agency (VEHBFA), showed that the school claimed that it would take in $2.6 million in pledged donations, and up to almost $6 million in possible donations, to help pay off their debts.

In its application, the college claimed to have managed all its debt and "demonstrated a strong financial position that steadily trended upward over the last several years."

In the loan document, signed by Sanders, People's United Bank requires that the college "receive commitments of a minimum of $2.27 million of grants and donations prior to closing." Audits obtained by VT digger show that the school only took in $676,000.

Jim Foley, general counsel of the VEHBFA, told CNN that "as far as the agency is concerned the loan documentation was fine" but that "hindsight is always 20/20. It looks like the college didn't have the cash flow or the student enrollment" to maintain the financial burden of the loan.

In 2011 alone, Sanders reported on the loan application that they had over $1.3 million in confirmed donations. An audit of the school's finances posted online by a news organization showed contributions of only $127,655.

More Sanders staffers exit campaign

A handful of high-level staffers have left Bernie Sanders’ campaign in recent days, including his director of technology and three of the four members of his original senior leadership team in California — a state his team has said is critical to his bid for the Democratic nomination.

The moves come at a time of contraction for the campaign, which let go of hundreds of field staffers earlier this month amid slowed fundraising.

Zach Schneider, among the campaign’s lead tech staffers, voluntarily left on Friday after six months when the in-house text messaging program he had been working on was cut, he told POLITICO.

Text For Bernie, the campaign’s program for having volunteers send text messages to targeted individuals — voters in primary states on Election Day, for example — had been run for the first few months of the campaign through a third-party company called Hustle before Schneider and his team developed their own program in time to get out the vote for this month’s Indiana primary.

Sanders superdelegate flips to Clinton

A Virgin Islands superdelegate who was supporting Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has flipped his support to front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Emmett Hansen II, the Democratic National Committee superdelegate for the Virgin Islands, originally backed the Vermont senator but decided to switch after learning more about Clinton's plans for the U.S. territories, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

“There are no more windmills to joust against and no more mountains to climb,” Hansen said. “It comes down to one thing: what’s best for the Virgin Islands, to be fully incorporated into the United States.”

Sanders hadn't given concrete positions regarding U.S. territories, Hansen said, adding that he'd been in talks with the campaign to try to get answers.
