Waukesha County Clerk Ordered to Step Aside in Recall Elections

It’s two strikes and out for Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus, whose latest Election Day pickle led County Executive Dan Vrakas to relieve her of her duties for the historic recall elections in May and June.

According to a statement released Thursday from the County Executive’s Office, Vrakas posed an ultimatum to Nickolaus in an effort to restore confidence in the upcoming election: Either resign as clerk or she designate her Election Day duties to the deputy clerk.

Nickolaus chose the latter.

“Kathy agreed to hand off her election duties to the deputy county clerk in order to avoid my public call for her resignation,” Vrakas said. “In stepping aside, Kathy also agreed to allow outside consultants and county staff to work side-by-side with the deputy clerk to help restore confidence in our election process.”

Is Romney saying he's going to campaign for Scott Walker?

I would love for Willard to bring Democrats out in June.

A kindergarten parent's observations after the first year of school life.

1. It's important to build an alliance with teachers and not be afraid to cross swords with the principal.
2. School administrators love to cling to the status quo no matter how negative. This is especially true at schools at which parents are predominately poor and come from immigrant backgrounds.
3. School choice and the Internet are a parents' best friends. They can be the tools with which you can make positive change when the above administrators don't want to budge.
4. Poverty and lack of stability impact younger students more than older kids because it's the time they seem to need the most help developing good learning skills.
5. After-school may have a greater impact on getting kids on the right track than the regular school day.
6. A child's right to attend school should not supersede the right's of others to a safe learning environment, regardless of age. Bullies should not be stigmatized, but no one should be bullied.
7. Parents SHOULD be accountable for their kids' behavior.
8. Foreign language classes should begin at 4th grade.

Baby Tripp to soon get a brother or sister.

Levi Johnston's sperm have come home to roost -- again. The 21-year-old stud has up and got another babe pregnant out of wedlock, TMZ is reporting. She's Sunny Oglesby, a 20-year-old teacher from you know where - Wasilla, Alaska. The couple has been dating for just over a year, and she's said to be fewer than three months along in her pregnancy, sources tell TMZ. This means little Tripp Palin, the child he had with his ex-fiance Bristol Palin, could have a half-brother or sister on the way. (Or both!) No response yet from Bristol, who in her 2011 memoir wrote that bad boy Levi cheated on her constantly.

Why the Sanford Police Chief has not yet been fired.

Firing a public official, even an appointed official is a difficult thing to do even if a CM can show cause. Firing someone without showing cause after an investigation is nearly impossible, unless there is a contract clause that permits it (typically found in agreements between CM's and City Councils). So don't hold your breath unless an until it's shown that the Police Chief ran his department in such a way that led to the events of that night in February. I think it's more likely that the officers involced in this investigation and the one involving the beating of a homeless man in 2008 will be disciplined up to and including termination.

Final.Hiring.Interview.

Three words I haven't heard in a long, time, but I have one this coming week. I'm hopeful but realistic. Wish me luck.
