Utah Feels the Bern as 14,000 TURNOUT for Bernie Sanders in Salt Lake City

PRESS RELEASE

Utah Feels the Bern as 14,000 Turnout for Sanders in Salt Lake City

MARCH 18TH, 2016

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A massive crowd of more than 14,000 Bernie Sanders supporters came out on Friday to Brigham Young State Park overlooking the snow-capped Rocky Mountains to hear the Democratic presidential candidate.

“On Tuesday there is going to be a very important caucus here in Utah. Let me give you a simple political truism. We will win that caucus if there is a large turnout. We will lose if there isn’t,” Sanders said.

Across town, Republican front-runner Donald Trump drew a much smaller crowd in the same city on the same day.

Sanders told his supporters that he would be the best choice for Democrats who want to retain the White House and defeat Trump in November. “In almost every poll we run much stronger against him that does Secretary Clinton,” Sanders said.

Sanders said Trump hurts his own chances because he doesn’t tell the truth and is insulting to Mexicans, Muslims, women, veterans and African-Americans.

He also said Trump isn’t honest with his audiences. A PolitiFact assessment of 112 Trump statements found that 78 were false, mostly false or “pants on fire” wrong. “He will not be elected president because he lies all of the time and the American people will not elect someone who lies.”

Utah was the second stop on a three-state swing that took him earlier to Idaho Falls, another state where Democrats will go to caucuses next Tuesday to choose a nominee for the Democratic Party nomination for president. Later Friday, Sanders was headed to Tucson to resume campaigning in Arizona where voters will go to the polls in a primary election on Tuesday.

Sanders spoke about a wide range of issues including his plan for a Medicare-for-all health care system. “Despite the Affordable Care Act, many millions of Americans have no health insurance,” he said.

Sanders also called for bold action to reverse global warming caused by burning coal, oil, gas and other fossil fuels. Sanders would tax carbon to discourage burning fuels that emit the greenhouse gasses responsible for climate change.

UNITE HERE Local in Maryland ENDORSES Bernie Sanders

PRESS RELEASE

UNITE HERE Local in Maryland Endorses Sanders

MARCH 18, 2016

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Bernie Sanders on Friday welcomed an endorsement from UNITE HERE Local 7, which represents 3,000 workers in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Local 7 is the sixth UNITE HERE local to endorse Sanders’ bid for the White House.

“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of so many hospitality workers in Baltimore,” Sanders said. “This campaign is building a movement of millions of Americans who are demanding that our economy works for everyone, not just the top 1 percent. The UNITE HERE Local 7 in Baltimore is an important part of this movement which is spreading to every corner of our country. I am grateful for their support.”

“Bernie Sanders is talking about the things that we fight for every day,” said Local 7 member Kareem Boyd who works at the Baltimore Convention Center and Camden Yards. “Good paying jobs, affordable health care, good education for all, equality and rights on the job. I think the more people know about Bernie the more they’ll go his way.”

Local 7’s 3,000 members are food and cocktail servers, housekeepers, cooks, bartenders, bellmen, front desk agents, cashiers, dishwashers, casino and food service workers in Baltimore area hotels, universities, casinos, public venues and Thurgood Marshall BWI Airport.

“We live in a city where a young black man is more likely to end up in prison than in college,” said Leila Butler, a slot attendant at Horseshoe Baltimore Casino. “I have two teenage sons and I worry all the time. There are big things that need to change. Bernie Sanders has a plan to stop investing in the mass incarceration of black men and start investing in jobs and education. I support that and I support him.”

DAHO FALLS, Idaho – U.S. Sen. AIPAC REJECTS Bernie Sanders Offer to Speak VIA VIDEO, as Romney and Gingrich Did in 2012

Bernie Sanders confirmed on Friday that he will not attend the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in Washington next week, and his campaign revealed that the candidate’s offer to address the gathering by video link was turned down by the organizers. In a letter to Robert Cohen, the group’s president, released on Friday afternoon, Sanders wrote that while he “would very much have enjoyed speaking at the AIPAC conference,” like all of the remaining presidential candidates, his campaign schedule made it impossible for him to attend in person.

“Since AIPAC has chosen not to permit candidates to address the conference remotely,” Sanders added, “the best that I can do is to send you a copy of the remarks that I would have given if I was able to attend.”

Michael Briggs, his communications director, confirmed that an offer to speak via video link was rejected. The pro-Israel group has not yet replied to a request from The Intercept to explain why it would not allow Sanders to address the conference on video, but did allow both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich to do so during the 2012 presidential campaign.

~snip~

Although Sanders promised to send AIPAC a copy of the speech he would have made, it seems possible the group did not really want to hear from him, given that he promised recently to seek a “level playing field” in his approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict if elected president. Late on Friday, the group told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, “We did change our policy and no candidate was offered/permitted the opportunity to address the conference remotely this year.”

That policy obviously does not extend to Israeli officials, since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address the conference via satellite.

Hillary Clinton Has an NSA PROBLEM

The FBI has been investigating Clinton for months—but an even more secretive Federal agency has its own important beef with her

~snip~

The documents, though redacted, detail a bureaucratic showdown between Ms. Clinton and NSA at the outset of her tenure at Foggy Bottom. The new Secretary of State, who had gotten “hooked” on her Blackberry during her failed 2008 presidential bid, according to a top State Department security official, wanted to use that Blackberry anywhere she went. That, however, was impossible, since Secretary Clinton’s main office space at Foggy Bottom was actually a Secure Compartment Information Facility, called a SCIF (pronounced “skiff”) by insiders. A SCIF is required for handling any Top Secret-plus information. In most Washington, D.C., offices with a SCIF, which has to be certified as fully secure from human or technical penetration, that’s where you check Top Secret email, read intelligence reports, and conduct classified meetings that must be held inside such protected spaces. But personal electronic devices—your cellphone, your Blackberry—can never be brought into a SCIF. They represent a serious technical threat that is actually employed by many intelligence agencies worldwide. Though few Americans realize it, taking remote control over a handheld device, then using it to record conversations, is surprisingly easy for any competent spy service. Your smartphone is a sophisticated surveillance device—on you, the user—that also happens to provide phone service and Internet access.

As a result, your phone and your Blackberry always need to be locked up before you enter any SCIF. Taking such items into one represents a serious security violation. And Hillary and her staff really hated that. Not even one month into the new administration in early 2009, Ms. Clinton and her inner circle were chafing under these rules. They were accustomed to having their personal Blackberrys with them at all times, checking and sending emails nonstop, and that was simply impossible in a SCIF like their new office was. This resulted in a February 2009 request by Secretary Clinton to NSA, whose Information Assurance Directorate (IAD for short: see here for an explanation of Agency organization) secures the sensitive communications of many U.S. Government entities, from Top Secret computer networks, to White House communications, to the classified codes that control our nuclear weapons. IAD had recently created a special, custom-made secure Blackberry for Barack Obama, another technology addict. Now Ms. Clinton wanted one for herself. However, making the new president’s personal Blackberry had been a time-consuming and expensive exercise. NSA was not inclined to provide Secretary Clinton with one of her own simply for her convenience: there had to be clearly demonstrated need.

~snip~

Now, over two months later, I can confirm that the contents of Sid Blumenthal’s June 8, 2011 email to Hillary Clinton, sent to her personal, unclassified account, were indeed based on highly sensitive NSA information. The Agency investigated this compromise and determined that Mr. Blumenthal’s highly detailed account of Sudanese goings-on, including the retelling of high-level conversations in that country, was indeed derived from NSA intelligence. Specifically, this information was illegally lifted from four different NSA reports, all of them classified Top Secret / Special Intelligence. Worse, at least one of those reports was issued under the GAMMA compartment, which is an NSA handling caveat that is applied to extraordinarily sensitive information (for instance, decrypted conversations between top foreign leadership, as this was). GAMMA is properly viewed as a SIGINT Special Access Program or SAP, several of which from CIA Ms. Clinton compromised in another series of her “unclassified” emails. Currently serving NSA officials have told me they have no doubt that Mr. Blumenthal’s information came from their reports. “It’s word-for-word, verbatim copying,” one of them explained. “In one case, an entire paragraph was lifted from an NSA report” that was classified Top Secret / Special Intelligence. How Sid Blumenthal got his hands on this information is the key question, and there’s no firm answer yet. The fact that he was able to take four separate highly classified NSA reports – none of which he was supposed to have any access to – and pass the details of them to Hillary Clinton via email only hours after NSA released them in Top Secret / Special Intelligence channels, indicates something highly unusual—as well as illegal—was going on.

Hillary Clinton SWITCHED To Private Email Server After NSA SECURITY-VETOED BlackBerry

In a dramatic new development, CBS and McClatchy, among others, are reporting that FOIA documents show priority, high-level requests made by Clinton for her and her staff to be issued secure BlackBerry devices like Obama received.

"...Resolving the issue was given such priority as to result in a face-to-face meeting between Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills, seven senior State Department staffers with five NSA security experts. According to a summary of the meeting, the request was driven by Clinton's reliance on her BlackBerry for email and keeping track of her calendar. Clinton chose not to use a laptop or desktop computer that could have provided her access to email in her office, according to the summary...."

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/emails-show-nsa-rejected-hillary-clinton-request-for-secure-smartphone/

The NSA rejected the request out of security concerns, which they made clear to Clinton. One email from March 11, 2009 even says ‘I shared with her the Secretary's comment after reading the memo that "she gets it."’. The first private server emails in the Clinton record are from March 18th, just a week later. This appears to show that Clinton was well aware that she was officially prohibited from operating her communications in this way, and after trying to argue her way out of it, went just days later and setup a private, less secure version of what the NSA had just rejected on security grounds.

Brian Fallon “declined to comment” so it’s unclear what the Clinton spin on this will be. One of the most prominent arguments that Hillary is not in legal jeopardy has centered around the idea of a lack of “intent”. These documents appear to seriously undermine that case.
