ENOUGH OF THE THREATS, Reid and Durbin. Just do FILIBUSTER REFORM

SHUT UP AND ACT!!...ENOUGH OF THE THREATS!

After Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) decided to block the Senate from even discussing the budget bill while they were waiting for the cloture clock to tick down on the continuing resolution spending bill (a cloture clock made necessary by Sen. Kelly Ayotte's (R-NH) obstruction), Majority Leader Harry Reid once again lamented the obstruction and once again hinted that he just might have to do something about it.

“It is things like that that will cause the Senate to have to reassess all the rules because right now they accomplish so little,” Reid said late Tuesday on the Senate floor. “I’m disappointed.”

Sen. Dick Durbin, majority whip, concurred.

“I supported Harry’s decision to try to work out a bipartisan agreement on the rules because I think it’s in the best interests of the institution, but I can tell you the abuse that we’ve seen since then is not encouraging at all,” Durbin told reporters. “I think we need to get back to regular order, and that means stopping the abuse of the filibuster.”

Here's the thing: If you're going to do it, do it. What Greg Sargent says: "Empty threats make Dems look weak and do nothing to discourage continued GOP obstructionism." The last two months of Republican filibusters following the supposed "reform" they agreed to prove that. How much more is it going to take?

instead of Apologizing CNN IS OUTRAGED By the BACKLASH Over Their PRO-RAPIST Coverage

Instead of apologizing or listening to the complaints that the network was soft on rapists due to their Steubenville rape convictions coverage, CNN is outraged and dismissive.

Today The Wrap reported:

Poppy Harlow, covering the events in Steubenville, particularly hard.
“Poppy is taking this extremely personally as a woman,” said one executive. “She’s outraged that someone would think she’d do such a thing” as slant her coverage toward rapists. “It’s gotten so out of control.”

http://www.thewrap.com/media/column-post/cnn-soft-rapists-steubenville-coverage-sparks-debate-81861?page=0,0

I don’t believe that Poppy Harlow, Candy Crowley, or CNN deliberately set about to apologize for rapists or minimize rape. But they did. The fact that they are so unaware of why this is a problem is exactly why they need to apologize. The problem here is that Harlow and CNN don’t understand why people are complaining. Harlow is outraged and CNN has brushed it off as not necessarily valid according to The Wrap, “CNN had no official comment, except to note privately that viral petitions sometimes have a life of their own and start ‘feeding on itself’ whether or not the issue is valid.”

The issue is very simple and very valid. We live in a “rape culture”. That is a culture where rape is excused and blown off, and the victim is silenced and/or smeared. Rape is excused and tolerated via the sometimes well meaning complicity of people who don’t know any better. That culture is being challenged by the very same social media that was used to broadcast the humiliating abuse of the victim. Guess which side won in the court of mainstream public opinion? Hint: It wasn’t the perpetrators.

And so CNN’s coverage was disturbing, as it fed the rape culture. Reporter Poppy Harlow stood outside the courtroom visibly distressed and lamented on air to Candy Crowley, “I’ve never experienced anything like it, Candy. It’s incredibly emotional, even for an outsider like me. These two young men, with promising futures, star football players, A students, literally watched as their lives fell apart.” No mention of how the victim’s life was torn apart and is forever tainted due to the video and pictures the rapists and their posse posted online. Candy Crowley didn’t help matters when she, too, failed to mention the victim.

The Wrap acknowledged:

Rather than balancing Harlow’s report, anchor Candy Crowley asked an expert about the rape conviction’s “lasting effect on two young men.” As critics pointed out, Crowley did not spare a word for the unnamed and unseen victim or the lasting effect on her.

Indeed, Crowley may regret qualifying the crime as “essentially rape.”

The CIA Is About To Sign A GAME-CHANGING $600 Million DEAL With Amazon

The CIA is on the verge of signing a cloud computing contract with Amazon, worth up to $600 million over 10 years, reports Frank Konkel at Federal Computer Week. If the details about this deal are true, it could be a game-changer for the enterprise cloud market. That's because Amazon Web Services will help the CIA build a "private cloud" filled with technologies like big data, reports Konkel, citing unnamed sources.

The CIA is pretty closed-lipped about its business, as spies are apt to be. This is no exception. It won't confirm the deal or comment on it, so details are sketchy. But the contract is expected to be for a "private" cloud, which is not what AWS is known for. AWS is the largest "public" cloud provider. In general, the term "private cloud" means using cloud computing technologies in a company's own data center. Public clouds are in hosted facilities, where the hardware is shared with many users. Sharing the hardware saves money. Amazon hasn't been very interested private clouds.

Years ago, it even argued against them. If companies want private clouds based on Amazon's tech, they often go to startups like Eucalyptus Systems. Amazon's approach has been its "Virtual Private Cloud." This still uses hardware hosted by Amazon, but adds extra security to make it behave more like a private datacenter. If Amazon were really to enter the private cloud business, this could be a big threat to VMware and Citrix, the two biggest players in this market. (Also to HP, IBM, Cisco, and other hardware vendors pushing private clouds.)

WOW! Former MSNBC Host Dylan Ratigan QUIT New York To Work On HYDROPONIC Organic Farm

You won't believe where former MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan has been.

Ratigan left MSNBC in the middle of last year, having spent eighteen years in New York City and "the chaos surrounding the hollow political debates permeating America’s media and politics," as he put it on Wednesday in his first blog post since June. In the same post, Ratigan filled people in on his life since. He's gone all in for high-yield hydroponic farming.

He learned about the topic from an Iraq war veteran and his wife, who were guests on Ratigan's show last June and discussed, as Ratigan now puts it, "how they were bootstrapping their way to operate a high-yield hydroponic organic farm that uses 90% less water and produces three times as much food." Ratigan decided to join their cause.

"Since I left MSNBC and dylanratigan.com last June, I first started working with these inspiring visionary veterans on the phone, and then in person to expand their dream and help turn it into a reality," Ratigan wrote. "The process alone has restored meaning and purpose in my life, my health and spirit have taken on a renewed vitality and, because of my time with you, I have had the opportunity and privilege to literally put my money where my mouth is."

Ratigan went on:

Last Fall, I moved from NYC to north San Diego County, just outside of the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, to work full-time with Colin and Karen Archipley at their hydroponic organic farm, “Archi’s Acres.” After realizing how impressive their ideas and effectiveness are, I decided to invest the money that I earned for writing Greedy Bastards (which when combined with a loan from Whole Foods) to build a 30,000 square foot “farm incubator” that can serve as the prototype for job-creating, water-saving, food-producing, veteran-led hydroponic organic greenhouses nationwide. We’ve even enlisted Major General Melvin Spiese and his wife Filomena to join us in support of our mission to make this program more diverse and robust enough to build it into a nationwide network.

Reid Again HINTS At Changing Rules Amid GOP Filibuster

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah....

Like watching paint dry!

JUST DO IT!!!

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Tuesday threatened to revisit the Senate rules amid the latest Republican filibuster — his second such threat this month. While the Senate waits to wrap up passage of a stopgap bill to fund the government, Democratic leaders want to begin debate on the budget resolution. But Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) is blocking that unless Reid agrees to vote on his sequester amendment, which Reid won’t do because Democratic leaders don’t want to replace the automatic cuts in patchwork measures. So they’ll have to wait out the delays and finish the stopgap bill before moving on to the budget.

“It is things like that that will cause the Senate to have to reassess all the rules because right now they accomplish so little,” Reid said on the Senate floor. “I’m disappointed.” It’s an idle threat for now because there’s little indication that Democratic leaders are willing to reignite another painful filibuster reform battle after the last one ended with a whimper this January. Nor do they want to raise expectations for changing the rules mid-session. But the many GOP filibusters since the rules change have left Democrats deeply frustrated.

Reid’s remarks were backed up by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), the author of the Democrats’ budget, who also took to the floor late Tuesday to bash Republicans for stalling. Democratic aides privately claim the GOP-enforced delays reflect their unpreparedness for the budget process — while Dems believe they’ve united their caucus around the Murray budget. The majority leader continued his criticism of Republican delays on Wednesday. “Republicans were desperate, they said, to have a budget debate. Republicans were desperate for an amendment vote-a-rama,” Reid said in a morning floor speech. “So I was amazed yesterday — I mean amazed, flabbergasted, stunned — when Republicans blocked attempts to begin debate on the budget resolution.”

Moran refused to back down after Reid’s remarks and again demanded a vote on his measure, which would mitigate the sequester’s cuts to air traffic control towers. He claimed 26 cosponsoring senators, many of them Democrats.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA: Michael Steele Calls Rrrrreince Priebus 'NUMBNUTS'

Former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said Tuesday he could win a steel cage match against his successor, Reince Priebus, who he called "numbnuts."

Steele, the RNC's first African American leader when he took the post in 2009, lost the chair to Priebus in 2011. Steele told radio host Andrea Tantaros he could whip Priebus in a steel cage fight. "Oh, no question. I'd clean his clock," Steele said in the interview. When Tantaros asked what moves he'd use, Steel answered: "Just one knock on the head. It’s done.” "No pile driver needed?" Tantaros asked. "That's way too much energy for this," Steele answered.

Steele continued to hit Priebus in the interview, clipped by the Washington Examiner. "I was laughing at some of these numbnuts after the election talking about, 'Oh, well we need to do a 50-state strategy,'" Steele said. "Dude, where were you for 2009 and 2010? That’s exactly what we did."

That was an obvious shot at Priebus, who called for a 50-state strategy after GOP losses in the 2012 elections.
