OUCH! About Those 4 Economists Dissing Bernie's Policies...

..........

A few days ago, 4 economists reviewed Professor Gerald Friedman’s analysis of Bernie Sanders’ economic agenda, which came to the conclusion that his policies would be hugely beneficial. Their conclusion was that Professor Friedman’s analysis and conclusion were completely wrong, and could not be supported by the evidence. Paul Krugman then jumped in with a variety of blog posts of his own piling on Professor Friedman, along with anyone else that may support Senator Sanders candidacy for President. And boy howdy! Clinton supporters everywhere rejoiced that Senator Sanders plans had been eviscerated and shown to be the very fairy dust and unicorn tails that they always believed.

They might want to sit down…........

James K. Galbraith just sent them a little letter, and I don’t think Team Clinton is going to be happy about it. Not only does Mr. Galbraith take them to task (to put it mildly) for impugning the integrity of Mr. Friedman’s methodology and analysis, but calls them out for failing to do any kind of economic analysis of their own! But this is the sentence that really caught my attention (not that the rest of the letter was anything short of hilarious in its condemnation of the 4 economists):

“For the record, in case you're curious, I'm not tied to Professor Friedman in any way. But the powerful – such as Paul and yourselves – should be careful where you step.”

Holy Shitballs! Talk about hitting them where it hurts! Hillary’s surrogates might start getting a little more careful as they try to ridicule and downplay Senator Sanders and his ideas, candidacy, and supporters.

Clark County Black Caucus ENDORSES Bernie Sanders for President

PRESS RELEASE

Clark County Black Caucus Endorses Bernie Sanders for President

FEBRUARY 19TH, 2016

LAS VEGAS – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Nevada campaign on Friday welcomed the endorsement of the Clark County Black Caucus. Clark County is the biggest county in Nevada with over 2 million people, approximately 12 percent of whom are African-American. The group noted Sen. Sanders’ lifelong commitment to civil rights, racial and social justice, ending mass incarceration and addressing economic inequality in the country.

“We are proud to endorse Bernie Sanders for president. He has the audacity to speak truth to power and fight for the needs of our community,” said Yvette Williams, Clark County Black Caucus chair. “He understands that when everyone is treated equally, this country thrives.”

The Clark County Black Caucus has pioneered several legislative advancements addressing issues that confront the state’s African-American community. The organization serves as a vibrant example of an institution that is able to transcend the partisan gridlock of the Silver State’s political institutions.

“We know that Sen. Sanders’ plans will address the institutional racism that plagues our nation and leaves millions of young African-Americans jobless, incarcerated, and hopeless,” said Steve Munford, Clark County Black Caucus executive board member. “Bernie Sanders has stood with our community since the civil rights movement and continues to stand with us today. We will caucus for him and continue working with him to bring about a political revolution.”

“We are honored to receive the support of an organization that was created on the heels of one of the most exciting moments in American history—the election of our country’s first African-American president, Barack Obama,” said Joan Kato, Sanders’ Nevada state director. “They are one of Nevada’s most influential advocacy organizations, and we are so proud to have their support.”

Bernie Sanders ACCEPTS Hillary Clinton’s Challenge on Wall Street Speeches

PRESS RELEASE

Sanders Accepts Clinton’s Challenge on Wall Street Speeches

FEBRUARY 19, 2016

ELKO, Nev. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign on Friday urged Hillary Clinton to keep her word and release the transcripts of speeches she gave to Wall Street firms “when everybody else does.”

“Sen. Sanders accepts Clinton’s challenge. He will release all of the transcripts of all of his Wall Street speeches. That’s easy. The fact is, there weren’t any. Bernie gave no speeches to Wall Street firms. He wasn’t paid anything while Secretary Clinton made millions, including $675,000 for three paid speeches to Goldman Sachs,” said Sanders’ spokesman Michael Briggs.

“So now we hope Secretary Clinton keeps her word and releases the transcripts of her speeches. We hope she agrees that the American people deserve to know what she told Wall Street behind closed doors,” Briggs added.

Clinton was paid $21.7 million in fees for speeches to groups including Wall Street firms, big corporations and trade associations for 92 talks she delivered from 2013 through last April in the run-up to formally launching her second presidential bid.

A question about what she said in those speeches was raised on Thursday during an MSNBC-Telemundo town hall in Las Vegas. A questioner in the audience asked her about why she won’t release the transcripts. Clinton said she would hand over her speech transcripts if other public officials did the same. “I’m happy to release anything I have when everybody else does the same,” Clinton said. Sanders is “everybody else” in the Democratic presidential field of candidates.

During a Feb. 4 Democratic presidential debate, Clinton was asked if she would release the transcripts of all her paid speeches. “I will look into it. I don’t know the status, but I will certainly look into it,” she said at the time.

Hillary Clinton AGAIN DECLINES to Disclose What She Told Big Banks in Her Paid Speeches

vimeo.com/155927022

The guy in the audience said it was a matter of trust. “Please just release those transcripts so we know exactly where you stand,” he said. But Hillary Clinton wasn’t going there. At the MSNBC town hall with the Democratic presidential candidates on Thursday evening in Las Vegas, Clinton once again refused to release transcripts or recordings of the secret speeches she was paid millions of dollars to make to Wall Street banks. Clinton literally laughed off the question when we first asked her, in January. Several days later, when Chuck Todd asked her during an MSNBC debate in New Hampshire, she said she would “look into it.” Shortly thereafter, however, Clinton had a new talking point, which is the one she used again on Thursday night, in response to a question from a self-identified Bernie Sanders supporter in the audience – a realtor named Joe Sacco.

“Why are you hesitant to release transcripts, or audio-video recordings of those meetings in order to be transparent with the American people regarding the promises, and assurances that you have made to the big banks?” Sacco asked.

Clinton replied: “I’m happy to release anything I have when everybody else does the same, because every other candidate in this race has given speeches to private groups, including Senator Sanders.”

Sacco followed up by noting that Clinton had changed her position on marriage equality, and that she faces trust issues. “Please just release those transcripts so we know exactly where you stand,” he said.

Records show Bill and Hillary Clinton made over $125 million from giving paid speeches since 2001. In particular, critics question why Hillary Clinton received over $675,000 from Goldman Sachs, an investment bank notorious for using its ties to public officials to influence policy, over the course of three speeches in 2013. And while Clinton likened her paid speeches to similar speeches given by Bernie Sanders, financial records show Sanders made $1,876 for two paid speeches and a television appearance last year. Sanders donated the speech fees to a local charity in Vermont that serves low-income families. An attendee of one of Clinton’s Goldman Sachs speeches said she gave such a flattering speech that she “sounded more like a Goldman Sachs managing director.” According the Wall Street Journal, Clinton used one of her speeches to the bank to thank the audience for what they had done for the country.
