Mall owner opts to go dark on Thanksgiving, sticking with a new tradition

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/10/mall-owner-opts-to-go-dark-again-on-thanksgiving.html

CBL Properties will keep the doors of its retail properties closed on Thanksgiving Day for the second-straight year.

Pushing back against so-called Black Friday creep, Tennessee-based CBL said the closures will affect 62 of its malls and open-air shopping centers.

Last year, more than 70 CBL-owned locations were kept closed on the holiday, allowing employees to enjoy their turkey. Some of the REIT's assets have since been sold off, which accounts for the discrepancy in the number of properties closed on a year-over-year basis.

"We had such overwhelming support from last year's decision," Chief Executive Stephen Lebovitz told CNBC. "We felt validated by that ... it was the right thing to do."

We Tried 99 Percent THC-A Crystalline Dabs, and It Was Chill

https://www.thekindland.com/products/we-tried-99-percent-thc-a-crystalline-dabs-and-it-1983

The weed world is changing more and more every day. From what we smoke, to how we smoke, to where we are legally allowed to smoke; or if we smoke our weed at all. Of course, cannabis is still illegal at the national level––a Schedule I drug on the same tier as the terrible two: heroin and bath salts.

Most people know this notorious scheduling is unmerited; weed just has a bad rep. But one aspect of all-things-THC that isn't doing the cannabis community any favors, at least in presented aesthetics to the outside observer, is dabbing.

But image isn't everything.

The KIND has written at length about concentrates. Some of our writers and editors are frequent dabbers. So, of course, when we heard of a highly potent, (allegedly) nearly pure, crystalline concentrate testing at 99 percent THC-A, trying a dab of it went from being a "treat yo self moment" to part of the job description.

thought of this because of the idiot KY governor.

"(Kentucky Governor) Bevin cited Colorado...saying there are people overdosing on (marijuana)"

http://www.wkyt.com/content/news/Gov-Bevin-says-he-will-not-allow-recreational-marijuana-to-be-legal-in-KY-450352913.html

Gov. Bevin says he will not allow recreational marijuana to be legal in KY

Governor Matt Bevin is voicing his opposition to recreational marijuana being legalized in Kentucky.

Bevin told WHAS radio personality Terry Miniers on his radio show Tuesday night that as long as he is Governor, he will not allow recreational marijuana to be legalized.

Bevin cited Colorado as an example of what's going wrong, saying there are people overdosing on the drug there.

This comes after a Kentucky state senator said last week he is in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana, and plans to bring it to the legislature for the January session as a way to get Kentucky out of its pension crisis.

So sorry to all KY DU'ers!

MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP: Ageism is related to mental health....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ageism

We see posts here on DU (not in this group) that are borderline or frankly ageist. I turn 60 next year. This is deeply personal for me. I'm going to do WTF I want to as a "senior". I'm sure I will be told on many occasions I'm too freaking old to do XYZ or whatever.

F*** ageism. Yes, your body may be "elderly" but your mind does not have to be. Yes, some things you can no longer do once you hit 60, but the rest you CAN do.

Again, F*** ageism.

How to change your DNS servers: facebook related....

I try to keep the uber-geeky stuff out of GD but Facebook is down or glitchy for many.

If you change your DNS servers, you *might* have better luck.

If you need help, just ask. Many of us know how to do this.

eta: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

This is one way to do it.

You can also change your DNS in your router. Again, ask if you need help.

Weinstein scandal: It was like a hunter with a wild animal. The fear turned him on

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/harvey-weinstein-it-was-like-a-hunter-with-a-wild-animal-the-fear-turned-him-on-asia-argento-gwyneth-paltrow-angelina-jolie-george-clooney-lucia-evans-emma-de-caunes-ronan-farrow-tklf3lm0k

In the 2000 film Scarlet Diva, a heavy-set Hollywood producer in a dressing gown lies on a bed and asks an aspiring actress for a massage, telling her he will read her script afterwards. “Don’t be afraid, I’m a teddy bear,” he says. Then he attempts to sexually assault her.

The film was based on the life of its director, the Italian film star Asia Argento. The scene depicting the fat, seedy producer was based directly on the time that Harvey Weinstein raped her, Argento has told The New Yorker.

Her claim formed part of an avalanche of graphic allegations of sexual assault and harassment that fell on the film mogul yesterday.

A-list Hollywood stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie, leading actresses from France and Italy, others who dropped out of the entertainment business immediately after their encounter with Weinstein and a psychology professor who met Weinstein as a college student, all told similar stories of a man who sought to bully them into a sexually charged encounter and who would not take no for an answer.

Could Harvey Weinstein Go to Jail? What's Next in Hollywood Sex-Assault Scandal

http://people.com/movies/harvey-weinstein-jail-time-legal-experts-sexual-misconduct-allegations/

The mounting allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against Harvey Weinstein could have major legal ramifications for the Hollywood mogul, from civil suits to criminal charges.

In accounts in the New York Times, the New Yorker and elsewhere, more than 20 women have spoken out against the producer, with allegations including rape, forced oral sex, groping and harassment. The alleged incidents took place over multiple decades and in cities including New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Cannes. (“Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein,” his spokesperson said Tuesday.)

The women involved could seek criminal charges or pursue civil lawsuits against Weinstein, legal experts say — but both carry very specific statutes of limitations.

“It depends when it happened,” says New York criminal defense attorney Stuart Slotnick of the alleged misconduct and assault. “If a woman comes forward and says this happened on this date and it’s within the statute of limitations, there is a likelihood that a prosecutor will look at it and take the case. The statute of limitations in New York used to be five years but it was extended in many cases because of different circumstances.
