Beto O'Rourke officially responds to oil pipeline billionaire Kelcy Warren's defamation lawsuit

Beto has filed an answer to Kelcy Warren's bogus lawsuit https://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/ap_news/politics/beto-o-rourke-officially-responds-to-oil-pipeline-billionaire-kelcy-warren-s-defamation-lawsuit/article_53b217ad-bb07-5cea-86f6-db3fcd30360b.html

Democratic nominee for governor Beto O’Rourke on Monday reaffirmed that he wouldn’t let a defamation lawsuit brought by billionaire energy executive Kelcy Warrant “silence” him from telling Texans how Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s allowed energy companies to “profit off last year’s power grid failure.”

In a legal filing in San Saba County, O’Rourke said he welcomed the chance to have the case against him unfold in view of Texas residents and voters. His filing did not seek a dismissal of the lawsuit, but denied all of the allegations against him.

“Defendant denies each and every, all and singular, the allegations asserted by Plaintiff in his Original Petition and demand strict proof thereof by a preponderance of the evidence as required by the laws and Constitution of the State of Texas,” lawyers for O’Rourke said in the filing that was due at midnight Tuesday.

O’Rourke also requested a trial by jury, with a venue moved from San Saba County to El Paso County, where O’Rourke lives. He said that Warren is registered to vote in Dallas County, not San Saba where the suit was filed. He said the change of venue would help him publicize his crusade against Abbott and energy industry officials.

Warren may have committed voter fraud by not filing the lawsuit in Dallas where he is registered to vote

Chad Dunn is evidently defending Beto. Chad was one of the lead counsel in the lawsuit that gutted the Texas voter id law.

Texas once again temporarily blocked from investigating gender-affirming care as child abuse

A court issued a statewide injunction last week prohibiting Texas from investigating doctors treating and parents of trans children from providing needed medical treatment. Paxton filed an appeal and then claimed that the injunction was stayed due to the appeal. This was a questionable legal position and the court of appeals quickly rejected Paxton's claim

A Texas appeals court on Monday reinstated a temporary injunction blocking Texas from investigating parents for child abuse if they allow their transgender children to receive gender-affirming care.

The Texas 3rd Court of Appeals issued the order as part of a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union and Lambda Legal on behalf of the parents of a transgender teenager who were being investigated by child welfare workers.

“Having reviewed the record, we conclude that reinstating the temporary injunction is necessary to maintain the status quo and preserve the rights of all parties,” three appellate justices wrote.

Last month, Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a nonbinding legal opinion arguing that some gender-affirming care for minors could be considered child abuse. Four days after the opinion published, Gov. Greg Abbott directed the Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate parents facilitating gender-affirming care for their kids.
