ok, here's a story for those who dont love my bawdy humor.

(i aint mad, y'all dont rly know me. when i tell those jokes in meat space, i not only get laughs, i get offers. i'm not punchin down. blm gave me a nickname- maewinko. laugh w me, eh?)

i posted this on evilbook, in 1 of those 'now and then' groups. if you're on there, and you never looked up your hometown, do. it's everything i want out of that place.
so, ftr, i grew up in aurora, il, where i was born in 54, and which i fled in 80.
it's was the terminus of burlinton rr, whose round house still stands. there is a commuter train to chi,
there were cornfields on my street, which is the main drag. about a mile away was northgate shopping center, iirc, the 1st in the country. it was 30k when i left and is now the 2nd largest city in illinois.

anyway, i posted this, and it went over well, even w the more recent arrivals. i thought i'd share it here-

who remembers the old couple that had a small farm and greenhouse on the east edge of town, i think. seems to me out new york? on the north side of the street. def not shaefers. before them.
the woman delivered eggs to our house. we just called her the egg lady, so i dont remember her name. but i remember the grey paper square doz egg cartons, w a nickel deposit that she reused til they we paper thin.

in the spring, my da and i would go buy plants. in the fall we'd get bushels of tomatoes and hot peppers and make homemade chili sauce that my da loved on his eggs. and can lots of tomatoes and tomato juices. used to be my job to put the peppers through the meat grinder. we'd attach it to 'the high chair' and put me on the back porch where i cranked and cried. the blanched and peeled tomatoes had to go through too, so i could switch off when i couldnt see any more.

such vivid memories. please no one disabuse me of any of it. 😜

i quickly had my answer, as well as memories of a couple other, similar spots. eventually there were pics. someone said- i'd forgotten that, but that whole childhood memory returned in a blink.

bethca a lot of you remember a spot like this.

if flabby mctreason is a poor man-

he's snoozing, drooling, in a greasy lazy boy surrounded by towers of papers and dead cats until social services moves in, or the kids put their foot down.
they dont even need an eval, his med records are clear. however few marbles he came down the escalator w, after covid, the last few are cracked.

he honestly does not belong in prison. you dont have to pity him, but i find him most pitiful.

it's double funny me because i know my youngest is a fairy quisling.

you know what would be great? passports

so, i'm entitled to an irish passport, but have yet to get my butt in gear and do it, cuz my mom doesnt have a birth cert and i have to chase down her baptismal cert, and and.

i have my ancestry dna kit here, and i'm thinking for the umpteenth time- if only ireland would step into the 21st century, and take dna results, mine being as irish as it gets, wouldnt all her sons and daughter who want to come home, come home?
and it occurs to me- what if all governments did that? what if people brought here as slaves could get dual citizenship w their country of origin?
how many people down under dont know where the ship that brought their ancestors came from?
how about all the people fathered by soldiers in time of war?

would that just make this world a smaller, more connected place?

eta- this is MY song-

my cougar jokes are my own, and they're who i am. 68 yo silver fox. flirt for sport. living for laughs.

so-
new pick up line- i'll do anything or anyone once, as long as it's only dangerous to my reputation.

how to spot the unevolved, and how to evolve together.

making a reply an op here, cuz it's something i've talked about here before and i think it's an important thing to clarify right now.
so, this thread is about the new ken burns film on the holocaust and links to jim crow and segregation in america. folks are talking about which came 1st, who influenced whom.
the answer is that authoritarians still exist because we began as authoritarians and it is at the root of our evolution.

it's our innate longing for the big chimp.

my son likes to say that it's pity we didnt evolve from gorillas instead of chimps. we'd be a peace loving species. bonobos w car keys. but of course, w/o chimp's capacity for violence, we wouldnt have.
i read a book on evolutionary psychology in the clinton years and felt like i'd found the rosetta stone. early tribes were just like primate tribes. the 'head man' form of society is still deeply ingrained. it's takes everything to go right in development for a human to rise above that. it takes art, music, philosophy, law and respect for law.

neither the u.s. nor nazi germany invented any of this. and it's past time for the species to see this shit clearly, and reject it soundly. ye shall know them by their actions. they burn books, they hang witches, they control women.

wake up ppl.

how do we evolve? we support every baby. we support every mom. we support every group that identifies as a family. we stop brutalizing children. we end domestic violence. the theory states that a child adapts to the level of violence they see around them. it is an important adjustment to make. end violence in the home, end it in the world.

ftr, the book was 'the moral animal' by steven wright. i read it when it was pretty new. it's still out there, despite many subsequent books on the subject, because of how clearly it explains the theory. he illustrates key points w events in the life of charles darwin. it's an easy read.
