Not the best way to pass a truck...

At the Cars and Coffee event in Loveland, CO, one dumbass managed to spoil the day:

Amazingly, nobody was seriously hurt, although the pickup driver was taken to the ER to be checked out.

Didja know the Supreme Court once had 10 justices?

It started with 6, and grew to 10 by 1863. Because of Reconstruction woes and hatred of Andrew Johnson, it was to be reduced by attrition to in 7 1866, but in 1869 became 9.

And that's where it's been-- since 1866.

It grew to 10 because of the increased workload, but in 1866, 13 of the present states hadn't yet been admitted. And California was growing, but nothing like it is now. Hell, we didn't even own Alaska and Hawaii in 1866, or whatever stuff we got from the Spanish-American war. To say nothing of all the other changes since then.

So, yeah expanding the Court would probably be a good thing just as a practical matter. Term limits, and/or mandatory retirements might not be bad, either.

What could go wrong? Well, for one thing, expanding the Court would give it the ability to review more cases, which means it just might take closer looks at things we may not want them to look at. And, just how much to expand it? If it were to grow to the same extent as the country has grown, we could be looking at hundreds of justices, so that makes little sense.

Anyway, it is entirely up to Congress how to configure the federal court system, and a Congress with a bit of smarts and guts might come up with something worthwhile.

Who heard of the Colfax Massacre?

This is a new one to me, but it's a bad one.

Easter Sunday, 1873 around 300 hundred KKK, White League, and ex-Confederate troops attacked a successful Black settlement in Louisiana. Up to 150 were murdered, with only 3 whites killed.

Fast forward to Gaetz' wedding...

And, after the wedding?

Two-gun Boebert's wedding party invited, with her "friends"?

And, Matt still doesn't get it (although he wants to get some of that)

7 Texas Officers Are Fired in Death of Black Man Restrained in Jail

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/01/us/marvin-scott-texas-jail.html

Seven sheriff’s officers in Collin County, Texas, were fired on Thursday in connection with the death of Marvin D. Scott III, a 26-year-old Black man who died after being restrained at the county jail last month.

“Evidence I have seen confirms that these detention officers violated well-established Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures,” Jim Skinner, the sheriff, said in a statement, adding that an eighth officer had resigned.

The police in Allen, Texas, just north of Dallas, arrested Mr. Scott on a marijuana possession charge on March 14. He had less than two ounces of the drug, according to the authorities — a misdemeanor.

The police said they had taken Mr. Scott to a hospital because he was acting erratically. He was then taken to the county jail, where county officers restrained him and pepper-sprayed him. A spit hood was placed over his head. He died later that night.

All those years of economics courses and I am still dumbfounded...

Maybe I should have gone for the PhD.

Anyway, here we are dumping trillions into the economy to help small businesses and people rubbing their last dimes together. I see the poverty and the lines at food banks.

But, somehow there's a whole bunch of people bidding housing prices sky high. Just saw a listing where in one day there were a dozen or so cash bids and went to contract as soon as the lawyers could get off their asses. There's a huge building boom around here, and the builders are so busy they won't answer the phone. Start thinking of a half million to get a bungalow.

This does not add up.

Gaetz isn't worth too much of anyone's time, but a few quick words...

First, what does one expect from an ingnoramus who can't spell "Gates"? Or is he pretending to be Slovakian royalty?

About the pedophilia-- why get caught up in the rightwing habit of accusing him of a worse act simply because it generates clicks and hatred? Pedophilia is with small children, not teens over the age of consent in a dozen states. Yes, 16 is the age in all those states bordering Florida, so all he had to do was skip to a motel just over the border and he'd be OK.

Trafficking? That's for when you take a hooker over the border. Or take someone over the border to sell her. Federal charges for him are a stretch. Must be more to the story.

This piece of shit is smelly enough to make Mar-a-Gago stink even more. No one has to work to make him look even worse than he is.

OK, here's where Cuomo and I part company...

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/31/nyregion/cuomo-book-nursing-homes.html

If you get hit by the paywall, here it is in a nutshell...

We all know Cuomo wrote book bragging about his Covid exploits. But, while he was negotiating a $4 million advance, the nursing home numbers were hidden.

His close staff were helping with the book, and perhaps helping a bit too much.
