This Cheney I admit I sorta like...

First, we cannot ever assume that one point of view can run the show. And even if we get a Dem government, we will have our own disputes. The only true way to run things is to have all sides have a voice. That is not to say that I agree at all with rightwing idiocy, but rational conservatives must have a voice.

I somehow got on a conservative mailing list and today got this from Cheney. I would never send her any money, but if she became my Congressperson, I have no problem with this type of honesty.

Liz Cheney for Wyoming

Friend,

God has blessed America. But our freedom will only survive if we protect it, if we take our duty and our obligation seriously.

But I also know that at this moment, we are confronting a domestic threat that we have never faced before. And that is a former president who is attempting to unravel the foundations of our Constitutional Republic. And he is aided by Republican leaders and elected officials who have made themselves willing hostages to this dangerous and irrational man.

Now, some in my party are embracing former President Trump. And even after all we’ve seen, they’re enabling his lies. Many others are urging that we not confront Donald Trump, that we look away. And that is certainly the easier path.

But to argue that the threat posed by Donald Trump can be ignored is to cast aside the responsibility that every citizen – every one of us – bears to perpetuate the Republic. We must not do that, and we cannot do that.

During this time of testing, I am asking for your help. My bid for re-election is going to be a fight, but it is a fight I am ready to wage. And it is a fight that I encourage you to join.

Someone sent me this old video about our friend Roger Stone. Seems he's still on about JFK....

click through to watch:

I was in HS for the assassination, and remember well all the theories and bullshit back then. Most of us just plain couldn't believe the one shooter bullshit, but most theories were just too far out there.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/retropolis/wp/2017/10/24/jfk-assassination-conspiracy-theories-the-grassy-knoll-umbrella-man-lbj-and-ted-cruzs-dad/

is a fairly OK synopsis of bullshit theories and one or two that have possibilies.

WIN 11-- OK, not really looking for help, just mostly bitching. Spilled a large cup of soup on my..

laptop and had to get new one. Zoom meetings coming up and time was short.

Found an Asus laptop at Best Buy for 100 bucks but seemed like it would do Zoom and email good enough. At least until I set up a decent desktop. Doing actual work on a phone really sucks.

First thing I notice is it sorta comes with Win 11, even though I have to download it. I already knew 11 wouldn't let me put the menu on the side like 10 did, but I was soon to find out about Widgets. Seems I already have a bunch of them floating around, and one keeps sending me annoying messages filling the screen when I'm trying to do something. Then I find out that the file directory and lists of apps, programs, and utilities I used to get are hidden. If I remember what they are called, I can search for them, though.

I don't think I can fit LibreOffice on this tiny hard drive, and Gimp is out, too. I did manage to get Thunderbird, but it just doesn't work like it used to. So far, I've only got one of my four accounts open on it and have to use webmail for the rest.

Overall, I thought it would be easy, but it's not.

And everything depends upon being online all the time.

Anybody noticed Amy Guttman lately? Her father was an orthodox...

Jew who left Germany in 1934 when he realized Hitler was for real, and taught Amy to hate Germany.

Biden just named her as our Ambassador to Germany. Things seem to have changed, as they tend to.

Hopefully, more things will change for the better.

It's men, is it?

https://www.theguardian.com/science/the-lay-scientist/2014/apr/30/why-are-women-more-opposed-to-abortion

It's quite reasonable to assume that women, who come equipped as the bearers/creators of life would have their own view of that life. Since the beginning of our species, boys have been raised as cannon fodder and girls as mothers. It kind of worked.

You can easily find exceptions to that premiss, or disregard it completely, but you have to agree that a lifetime of menstruation broken up by months of pregnancy would cause some thought not shared by men here and there.

Look around at your conservative cabals and and see just how many women are calling the shots, including on reproduction. This is not at all unreasable, considering that women are much closer to it all.

I have heard many men offer to provide and pay for an abortion, but remain clueless when the offer is not immediately taken.

So, where we are is not simply calling out men but giving that 60% options that would allow them the freedom to enjoy sex on their terms without guilt or obligation.

Finding an evil entity is easy. Solving a problem is not.

So now the Supreme Assholes are attacking Miranda? Vega...

hasn't exactly wiped out Miranda, but it's a pretty big punch.

Miranda has been attacked over the years, but even the attackers understood the Constitional prohibition on self incrimination and that police departments were used to it and didn't really want to mess it up.

Until today.

Religion in schools-- one Eisenhower way...

I may have mentioned that I went to Martin Luther HS, starting in 1961

Ike was just barely out of office, but we still had the Russians as the badest guys on the planet. Russian satellites and bombs seemed to have the ability to wipe us out, and no expense was spared to get us, and keep us, on top.

What MLHS got out of the deal were federally funded science labs. We got bio, physic, and chem labs with all the fixins and no one brought up our Missouri Synod conservative roots. The Bio lab was told (by the school, not the Feds) not to teach the fist few chapters of the text book, but that's the only thing "religious" we were exposed to. The job was to educate us, and that it did.

This was my first experience with gummint education, aside from city schools, and everyone thought it was just fine. It allowed our little school to stand proudly next to Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech, and other local hotshot schools. And the gummint neither endorsed nor criticized our odd little beliefs

In the years since, what the hell happened when every time the gummint opens its yap about education a fight has to start...

I nevet actually broketed a deal, but was involved with lots...

of them. Even sales of partial tanker loads while enroute and trying to find a refinery to get the salt water out of a tankerload on a leaky tanker on a breakup voyage.

And through all that a barrel stayed around a hundred bucks, and gasoline was under $3.

I don't really understand what just happened

June 14, 2022

So, early thus AM I'm llstening to BBC talking about literacy...

in South Africa. Then they start to go around the world and I hear Dollybooks before they go on to another program

Dolly Books?

Is there nothing she doesn't stick those elegant fingertips into? Some of you may know abou this, but it's completely passed me by.

Turns out that she's always wanted to do something about literacy. Her father never learned to read, and he was far from alone in the area. She's given away over 1.5 million books through various literacy programs.

We need a lot more Dolly Partons and a lot fewer politicians
