Nobody should be claiming it was their idea..

when it was introduced by Rep John Dingell.

Thanks for this history on John Dingell, she.

I still don't want them to do away with Obamacare that actually was passed and has saved lives. It's a strong foundation to build on .. not destroy as some would have it.

Obamacare study proves that having health insurance reduces U.S. death rates

<snip>

"The relentless conservative attack on the Affordable Care Act has been based on two deeply-held beliefs: That the individual mandate didn’t prompt people to buy health insurance, and that having coverage does nothing to make people healthier.

A new study conducted by a Stanford University researcher with the help of the Internal Revenue Service explodes both notions. It found that Americans who failed to respond to the individual mandate penalty when it was in effect (through 2018), tended to sign up for coverage when they were reminded about it; and that among those who did sign up, mortality rates fell.

The study is significant for two reasons. First, it undercuts Republican actions that led to the elimination of the penalty by the 2017 tax cut bill, effective in January 2019, while supporting legislation in California, two other states and the District of Columbia that reinstates the penalty within their borders.

Second, it’s the most statistically valid study showing that mortality rates are lower for people with coverage. Indeed, the study found that among those 49 to 64 years old, acquiring health insurance showed up in lower death rates within a year or two."

Good on Mayor elect Mike Matson!

"At President Obama’s side, Joe has made the tough calls in the Situation Room, and he commands respect from world leaders on the global stage," Matson said in his endorsement. "Joe has what it takes to win next November, and I hope folks will join me supporting Joe in this campaign.”

Thank you, hp !

I like this Mayor Randall Woodfin! He's a Realist!

thanks,

Biden's a Uniter

Woodfin believes Biden will rally Democratic voters nationwide, which will be critical to candidates and initiatives on the remainder of the ballot. “When you think about competitive [elections] we’ll have in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky," Woodfin said. “You’ll have the balance of the U.S. Congress on the line, redistricting on the line. We need somebody on the top of that ticket who can not only help down-ballot candidates be competitive, but also someone who can expand the map across the nation.

"For me all of that points to Vice President Biden giving us that best chance.”

Poor Harriot stuck on Corn Pop! Doesn't he know

he's passed on?

In October, Woodfin and fellow mayors Steve Benjamin (Columbia, S.C.); LaToya Cantrell (New Orleans) and Chokwe Lumumba (Jackson, Miss.) published an open letter to all of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, informing them that black voters in the South should be front and center in the 2020 presidential elections.

“What I remember most about the meeting was that there were probably five mayors under 40, male and female,” said Woodfin. “I personally left the meeting excited. I knew he had a commitment to the issues we raised and viewed mayors as real partners—not just in his candidacy—but, should he win, I believe he would do the same in Washington as well.”

But it wasn’t just one meeting that convinced Woodfin to endorse the former Vice President. The 38-year-old stressed the importance of expanding the political map in the 2020 elections beyond traditionally blue states. Biden, in Woodfin’s estimation, stands the best chance of helping down-ballot candidates in Senate, House and gubernatorial races much like Barack Obama did during his two campaigns for president.

“Being a moderate does not equal status quo,” the mayor added. “I 100 percent reject anyone who believes that. I support a lot of things on the left but—if I’m being real—I also believe you gotta win.

Freaking "real" is dead on! I'm so sick of the "status quo" slur that means absolutely Nothing.

Mahalo for this from Birmingham, Alabama Mayor Randall Woodfin!

People are criticizing me for wishing cancer on Obama. I say that having lost a parent to brain cancer after 12 years of fighting, and getting to see just how terrible our Healthcare system is, and I still think he deserves it or worse.

No, this brainwashed crazy asshole is running against Joaquin

Castro in Texas.

Lecea is a socialist running in the Democratic primary for Texas’ 20th congressional district. He’s a strong supporter of Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and describes himself as a “Bernie Democrat.”

The rate of uninsured Texans fell precipitously following passage of the Affordable Care Act, despite the fact that the state refused Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion, but the rate has crept back up under the Trump administration. The Affordable Care Act also made it illegal for insurance companies to discriminate against consumers with pre-existing medical conditions, including cancer.

Joe Biden Shakes UP the "status quo" in 2012..

Why I Believe Joe Biden Should Be the Next President - Emily Hecht-McGowan

Then on May 6, 2012 — a Sunday morning — Vice President Joe Biden appeared on Meet the Press. The national dialogue increasingly centered around the fight for marriage, so a related question was all but assured. By this time, the administration had ceased defending DOMA in the courts, but had stopped short of endorsing the freedom to marry as a fundamental right for all. When the question finally came to him, it was a simple proposition for the vice president: “Who do you love?”

In four words, Joe Biden became the highest-ranking U.S. official to affirm that my family is entitled to full dignity and equality under the law. In this one brief and unscripted answer, he moved our country forward. Just three days later, President Obama publicly affirmed his support for the freedom to marry."
