I find myself scanning the crowd for white faces. We need more of 'em!
I like that sign that said "Is Breathing a White Privilege Too?"
Most sentient beings know the difference. Only those in willlful denial don't see it -
or deliberately WON'T see it.
Truly. It's gonna be interesting to watch - now that the people sense they have a voice.
The Average Joe and Jane - can suddenly see and hear with their own eyes and ears. They now have a voice. Somebody in a position to do something about it - IS FINALLY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Finally speaking about it. Finally raising hell about it. How long since we've seen that?
Frankly, at the moment, I can't remember EVER having seen that! Somebody in the Senate - with a new position of more power and clout (Harry Reid probably felt he had to do that, because he undoubtedly noticed she was roaring too loudly to ignore) - is FINALLY articulating this with as much power and outrage and forcefulness as the rest of us do, from our own positions at the bottom of the political food chain. I think this is a whole new thing developing here, and the public HAS noticed. I hope it sets 'em on FIRE!
THIS is how you answer - "WHY bother voting for Democrats? They don't stand for anything!" THIS is what you do. THIS is what - and whom - you put forward. THIS is how you respond to that. It's the first time we've had that - in a LONG time. I'm 61 but I'm too young to ever know what it was like to live under FDR. I can only imagine how that felt. He talked the talk but put teeth behind it. And made stuff happen for the little guy. Elizabeth Warren may be the first really prominent political figure to do that since the New Deal. No wishy-washy with her. And that's what we desperately need! Not just us Dems, either. The whole freakin' country needs it!
And Hillary Clinton stays silent on this, or ignores this - at her peril.
I think they promote the subtle message that this is some sort of "solution."
It's like the car commercials or the beer party commercials, or even the damn Viagra commercials with the sexy undulating woman. They don't say it outright. But the message is - buy this (car, booze, med) and you can fuck this girl! That's ALL any ads promote. Buy this and you'll fill-in-the-blank-here to alleviate your own inadequacy. You'll get laid, you'll get thin, you'll get rich, you'll get popular, you'll get girls, you'll get sex appeal, you'll get safe, you'll get security, YOU will be the alpha, etc etc etc. That's all ads do. My dad was a salesman. I learned it at his knee. That was ALWAYS the message. It's never just simplistic. There's always a loaded insinuation in there. It's never just about - buy this, just to buy it and shell out some money for it. There is always an ulterior message - buy this and you'll get ______ . Or you'll be ______ . There's always an implied cause-and-effect. Why do you think every calendar hanging in any mechanic's garage, promoting whatever tool or carburetor or spark plug - is loaded with sexy girls? There's a subliminal message. Buy this and you'll REALLY get that. Whatever the "that" is.
I'm certain Mom in that case thought she'd be reeeeeeeeaaaal safe, and reeeeeeeal badass if she had that Bushmaster. Nobody'll mess with MOI!!! Nobody will be the boss of ME!!!!
Unfortunately, when it's guns that are being advertised, what else is to be done with them but shooting someone? Guns, okay? Does one clean silver with them? Does one do laundry with them? Are they economical at the gas pump? Do you take one and your headache goes away? Or your arthritis? Well, maybe your erectile dysfunction, but that wouldn't apply to her anyway. Do they taste good - and make good gravy? Do you serve them with beef, poultry, or fish? Do they insure your car for less? Guns. Okay? They're designed to shoot, and damage or maim or disable or kill. They're not designed to fire confetti, okay? I once had them described to me by a gun store owner as "an attitude adjustment device." They're a weapon. An OFFENSIVE weapon. She probably felt they'd make her safe. For her, evidently, they were designed to shoot somebody. Presumably some imaginary boogie man. Hell, she LIVED with the boogie man! She birthed him and brought him up! And probably never dreamed that he'd ever be "that" bad. Naaah, s'not gonna happen.
How many times have I heard, coming out of cocky and self-satisfied and complacent mouths - "s'not gonna happen." And despite those rock-solid confident assurances to the contrary, it invariably DOES.
Mr. FIVE Deferments. Mr. "Other Priorities." Pussy is a good word to describe him.
So is Chickenhawk. He's somehow too good to go get his hands dirty and put his own ass in harm's way for his country. But he's just fine with sending everyone else's kids over there. Same thing with the romneys of the world. FIVE HEALTHY STRAPPING ADULT SONS. And not ONE of them, including dad, ever served in the military. And no, I do NOT consider "serving in the private sector" as SERVING. "Serving in the private sector" serves NO ONE but yourself.
I bet Hugo Chavez was correct about him, as he insinuated about dubya: when they die, there will be a smell of sulfur.
Welcome to DU, DemandsRedPill!
Good to have you with us! I, too, am hoping that what Elizabeth Warren is leading turns into a HUGE movement, with HUGE muscles! Now that she's started it, where are the rest of 'em? And yes, that means YOU, Hillary Clinton!
Welcome to DU, lexington filly!
Glad you're here! I'm one, also! Liked her a lot already, but THIS is Fire-and-Brimstone FABULOUS!!!!! She has more balls than all the men on Capitol Hill. And a bigger backbone than a T-Rex! And THIS is what we need!!!! And the longer Hillary Clinton stays silent, the more it will hurt her, and make the difference between these two women almost painfully obvious. If she really wants the presidency, Hillary should be leading on this. Flexing her muscles and showing HER backbone and balls.
Do we have the names of all the cave men and cave women on our side who said yes?
I'd like to know who they are. To call them and give them a piece of my mind. Quislings!
She's the People's Senator, for sure!
In that, she represents us ALL. Not just Massachusetts.
