A Tyrant's Basic Strategy: Divide and Conquer
Attack on every issue, even if it is a worldwide pandemic.
Divide over cultural issues. Divide over race. A tyrant can divide over anything and everything.
In a democracy such as ours, division is very easy. We can see how it has weakened our institutions and our democracy.
Our country is like Trumpty Dumpty - it has fallen off the wall and we can't seem to put it back together again.
It has never been truer: United We Stand, Divided We Fall.
An interesting revelation from one of the recent books...
The White House Counsel, Pat Cippolini, thought Trump could very possibly be arrested for inciting the attack upon our Capitol. They thought it might happen immediately.
But days went by and nothing happened. Trump was holed up in the White House and was making no public comments. He was waiting for the storm to blow over. He did not want to bring attention to himself.
After several weeks, he realized that nobody was going to do anything to him about his role in the attack. He came forward to announce that he would continue his rallies. At last, he felt safe from being arrested.
He was not charged and he became more and more brazen as the days passed.
Until we are where we are today.
Why did they change their minds?
People like Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, and others were quick to condemn Donald Trump's actions, and lack of action, on January 6th. But they have done a total 360 flip-flop since then?
Lindsey Graham stood on the floor of the Senate and said he had "had it". "Write me off" he said. Trump had gone too far for even Lindsey. Not surprising, he flip-flopped almost immediately. But that is nothing new for two-faced Lindsey.
Mitch McConnell stood up and said that Donald Trump was "responsible" for the attack on our Capitol and that there were civil and criminal statutes to handle anything he had done. "He got away with nothing, yet", he said. Six months later, Mitch is firmly under the thumb of Donald Trump, as is almost all of the Republican caucus.
Kevin McCarthy may be the most obvious of all the flip-floppers. He denounced the attack on our Capitol and it was reported that he got into a shouting match with Donald Trump because he did not help when they needed it. That would be a deal-breaker for most folks, but not Kevin. He is the supreme opportunist, if nothing else. He wants to be Speaker more than he desires his next breath.
That is a question reporters should be asking all these flip-floppers. Why did you change your mind from what you said immediately after January 6th. If you were not telling the truth then, how can people believe you now? They should be required to respond to their flip-flops.
Why Don't We Do It In The Road
Ramble On
After everything that has happened, Republicans are still trying to "normalize" Donald Trump.
I'm sure if they had been around when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, they would have asked his widow, "Except for the small incident, Mrs Lincoln, how did you like the play? Did you enjoy the acting?"
If January 6th was no big deal, why did they run away and hide? If they were not afraid, why didn't they confront the mob and insist that they stop the violence immediately? I think we all know the answer. They were cowards.
So now, six and a half months later, they are pretending that nothing happened. It's all hyperbole by the Democrats. They are attempting to normalize the entire attack upon our Capitol. They still want Donald Trump to be their Leader.
They do not want the American people to know the truth. It isn't important anymore. We need to move forward. They keep adding more sugar to the kool-aid.
Oh, and what about the body of Mr Lincoln? Maybe they can hide it and no one will ever know he was shot?
Would they really have killed Mike Pence?
Yeah, they were yelling, "Hang Mike Pence!", but were they really that serious?
A witness that was a participant in the Trump rally stated that if they would have captured him, he would have been pummeled to death. (She was quoted on the Ali Velshi show this morning on MSNBC, He was interviewing Michael Bender, the author of one of the new books that just came out)
The American people had better open their eyes. Their vote is very important. They should think twice, maybe three times, before they pull the lever or mark the box.
There has never been a more important time in our history in my lifetime. American citizens need to step forward or they are going to lose their country to a violent dictatorship.
The sad part is that even Mike Pence does not realize how close he came to death.
Should politicians be held to a higher standard than common citizens?
In my opinion, they should.
Because they take an oath to protect and defend our Constitution. The common citizen does not.
An oath should mean something.
It is obvious that we have politicians that have betrayed that oath.
They deserve no breaks.
