Michael Luttig and the "Independent State Legislators Theory"..

I saw an interview with Michael Lutting on PBS about a week ago and he touched on this subject with their moderator.

More or less, this theory is that the Constitution permits the state legislators to choose the electors of their state, and cannot be challenged by the Courts.

Luttig seemed to think that this is the direction that the Republican Party is headed in 2024. He said he had not yet formulated a position on it.

He will be the primary witness at today's hearing and it will be interesting to see whether or not the subject is broached?

In his PBS interview, he was fearful of what might happen with Trump and the Republican Party before Trump was ever the nominee. His fears began with the primary debates with the other 16 candidates and the autocratic direction the Party was headed.

He thought they were all a bunch of spineless cowards for not standing up to Trump and the sick ideas he was expressing in public. He saw no leadership in the Republican Party at all. They were all willing to just wait and see.

Will FOX carry the hearing tomorrow?

Or did they just carry the last one because one of their former employees was a star witness?

It seemed to have no impact on them at all. It may as well have been a cartoon.

It will be surprising to see how they report on tomorrow's hearing, especially if they choose to not carry it?

A lesson in character

Character matters.

We knew it when the wannabe dictator came down the golden escalator.

We knew it when he talked about grabbing women by the "short hairs".

We knew it when he talked about "American carnage" in his inaugural speech.

We knew it when he appointed General Michael Flynn as his National Security Adviser and when he lied to the FBI about his conversations with the Russians.

We knew it when he had his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, attempt to open a secret channel of communication with the Russians, out of the reach of American intelligence.

We knew it when he had his press secretary lie to the American people about the size of the crowd at his Inauguration.

We knew it when dozens of women accused him of rape or sexual harassment and his handler, Michael Cohen, paid off one of them just before he was sworn into office.

There were too many examples to mention.

But, it was there for all to see and it didn't matter to a large number of Americans. Character did not mean anything to them because they did not have character.

It is all coming to an end. The lack of character and the willlingness to lie and to ignore what is directly in front of our eyes has put us in the place we are today.

When you ignore the lack of character, you threaten the lives of everyone.

A Paradigm Shift?

Does our country need a paradigm shift?

Would that mean that we would go in an entirely different direction?

What would that be?

Would it be for the better?

Our country needs to make some changes.

Politics would be the facilitator in a paradigm shift.

First, we take care of our people.

Is everyone on DU signed up on Twitter?

I have never taken the time to sign up for Twitter. I never cared for it.

But now, there is so much that I cannot read on DU, because there is a link to Twitter and I am blocked .

I wish I was able to read all the great posts but I do now wish to join.

After the hearings, does it matter if the Committee sends criminal referral to DOJ?

There is no legal requirement that they send one or that the DOJ act upon it if it is sent.

The DOJ is aware of their investigation. They will make the decision on their own, no matter what the Committee sends them.

For the appearance of non-partisanship, it might be preferable to finish this part of their investigation and see what direction the DOJ is going? The American people will have seen the evidence that has been gathered and will make their own decision about what the DOJ should do?

It should be noted that the Committee is not finished with their investigation. These hearings were required at this time to update the American people on the progress that has been made up to this point. We may see further hearings in September or October, before the election?

There is no logical or legal reason for the Committee to send a referral to the DOJ at this time, in my opinion.

Premature to make any judgements on the J6 Committee yet?

After all, they have only completed their Second Hearing. They still have four more to go.

It's like people have seen enough already. Put them in jail now!

But there is still a lot of information to come.

We need to be patient and let all the information come out so that all the pieces fit in the conspiracy.

This investigation needs to be thorough and complete.

It's like the guy that gets arrested for jaywalking...

Then he is discovered to have just gotten out of a stolen car a couple of blocks away.

But then, they discover a body in the trunk of the car. Somebody was murdered.

But then, they see that he was an important Russian diplomat that knew the "jaywalker".

Then, they find that he was a part of the Russian mafia.

When they look more closely, they find a large sum of money hidden in the car.

They find documents that mention the name of the "jaywalker".

There were reports that he was standing in the middle of 5th Avenue waving a gun at everyone that walked by.

Big political figures stand up to defend him. "You can't arrest this guy for jaywalking", they say.

It's more than the cops can assimilate.

They let him go.

(This is the way it is with Trump - there is so much to clean up, nobody knows where to start)

Donald Trump did not want competent or honest people advising him on the election results.

He did not want people to tell him that the election was over and that he lost. He wanted people that agreed with his motives. What were his "motives"?

His motives were to continue to take money from his supporters. It was like the goose that laid the golden egg. He was not ready to give up that goose. That is why he put sycophants and incompetents in charge of his campaign after the election. Money.

He wanted people like Rudy and Navarro that were clever with their lies, so long as they protected him. It was something they could laugh about behind closed doors.

So he continued to feed the Big Lie to his cult and it didn't matter whether or not he believed them? It served his purpose, as it still does.

The presidency was nothing more than a big slush fund. Just reach in and pass out favors to all the people he needed.

Was he "detached from reality"? Does it matter?

Trumpism is like an albatross around the neck of the Republican Party

They probably dream about their chances at winning the House and Senate if they were not wearing the carcass around their neck?

With inflation, the price of gas, their virulent hatred for Joe Biden, the wrong-track polls, they probably dream about their huge majority in both the House and the Senate?

But, they can't seem to get rid of the albatross. Like in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, it is their punishment for killing the friendly bird.
