The Simple Solution

The US Supreme Court follows the Colorado Supreme Court and declares Trump disqualified to run for the Presidency or any other office, per our Constitution. The evidence is as plain as the nose on your face.

Then, the Appeals Court rules that Trump's claim of immunity is a frivolous claim and the US Supreme Court refuses to take the case.

The trials should all begin on schedule.

The GOP should hold their convention on schedule in the middle of July and announce their candidate for the General Election.

That would be the best decision for our country, for democracy, and for peace around the world.

Then, someone should throw away the key.

Supreme Court will not rule on whether or not Trump "engaged in insurrection" ?

That's what the talking heads on CNN are saying.

But, would they leave the decision by the Colorado Supreme Court as is, when they unanimously agreed that Trump "engaged in insurrection", without clarifying it further?

Would that part of the Colorado decision then stand?

It would be helpful if another Court ruled that January 6th was an "insurrection", in my opinion. It would mostly remove that argument from the MAGA Repubs that continue to say it was not an "insurrection". As does Donald Trump.

If they continue to skirt around the issue of "insurrection", then very few people will be persuaded or changed from their present beliefs.

If only the Supreme Court and the Republican leaders could be as honest as Joe Biden about Jan 6th

They all saw what happened on January 6th. Some of them spoke the truth on that day and immediately afterward. But, somehow, politics seemed to have changed their minds.

Joe Biden gave a speech today. He spoke the truth about Donald Trump. No doubt, some Trump followers will be very angry. They may even threaten violence?

But, the President stood tall for democracy. He called for America to stand with him, Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, that are ready to fight for democracy. He did not pull any punches on the wannabe dictator, Trump.

I wonder where we would be today if Trump had won the last election? Or if his attempted coup had been successful?

How many soldiers died in the attack upon Ft Sumter?

Would you believe it was only two and it was an accident?

According to Google, "The bombardment of Fort Sumter was the opening engagement of the American Civil War. Although there were no casualties during the bombardment, one Union artillerist was killed and three wounded (one mortally) when a cannon exploded prematurely while firing a salute during the evacuation on April 14."

One might ask, was the attack upon our Capitol on January 6th, 2021, a worse attack upon our Republic than the attack upon Ft Sumter?

As far as we know, at Ft Sumter, the VP of the United States was not threatened to be hanged. The elected Congressmen and Senators of the people did not have to run for their lives. No one marched thru our Capitol with a Confederate flag.

And Donald Trump says that January 6th was not an "insurrection". Also, that he did not aid or abet in any insurrection.

A lot of guilty people are making some absurd claims of innocence.

The Truth About Trump

The truth that the media and the Republicans refuse to whisper.

He is the lowest of the low-lifes. He betrayed this country.

He is not running for president because he thinks the last election was rigged. He is running because he thinks it will protect him from criminal charges after his attempted coup attempt failed.

He wants his supporters to believe that we are no longer a nation of laws - we are a nation of men. More specifically, we are a nation of one man.

He is spreading more bullshit than a farmer with a 40-acre field. He knows it. His supporters know it. Bob Dole knows it. Lastly, the national media know it.

He is obstructing the justice system of this country with his delaying tactics. He hopes and expects to escape accountability for his crimes against our nation and our Constitution.

He is using confusion and chaos to distract the American people. FOX News is assisting him with his crimes.

His lawyers are attempting to write his defense for the Supreme Court. They are hoping to come up with something so he can squirm out of jail. Whether or not it will work remains to be seen.

He is a very desperate man. He is fighting for his life. He will use whatever weapons are at his disposal, including lies, distortions, threats of violence, personal attacks, and blaming everyone else for his extreme shortcomings as a human being.

The intent of the 14th Amendment's disqualification clause...

The debate from Spring 1866 that is publicly recorded in the Congressional Globe, a forerunner to the Congressional Record.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/framers-14th-amendments-disqualification-clause-analysis/story?id=105996364

But originalists might take note of what Sen. Peter Van Winkle of West Virginia said as he sought to have the threshold for congressional amnesty in Howard's version lowered to a simple majority, rather than two-thirds.

"This is to go into our Constitution and to stand to govern future insurrection as well as the present; and I should like to have that point definitely understood," Van Winkle said at the time.

It's also worth noting that there was just a single reference in the Senate debate to the fact that the president and vice president were not explicitly mentioned in Howard's draft as "officer(s) of the United States," the way members of Congress and state officials had been itemized in the text. Would the disqualification clause of the amendment not cover the top posts in the executive branch?

"Why did you omit to exclude them?" asked Maryland Democratic Sen. Reverdy Johnson.

Maine's Lot Morrill jumped in to clarify.

"Let me call the Senator's attention to the words 'or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States,'" Morrill said, ending the discussion on that point.

Haley and DeSantis offer Trump blanket pardon for nothing in return.

He doesn't have to say, "I'm sorry". He doesn't have to say, "I was wrong". He doesn't have to say, "I will never do it again".

He doesn't have to agree to pull out of the race and to never run for office again.

He doesn't have to agree to stop tearing down our government and our institutions and fomenting violence amongst his followers.

He doesn't have to give an inch.

And they will give him a blanket pardon.
