Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumSuggestions for week 4 media
Hi!
We're going into week 4. Looks like we accomplished something with week 1, Rachel Maddow, but not so much with weeks 2 and 3, David Letterman. I don't know if there weren't enough of us or they just didn't care what we want but didn't seem to work
Please give your suggestions for week 4. I am thinking Lawrence O'Donnell. However, maybe daytime talk shows should be considered. I just don't know what they are. Ellen and the View are the only ones I know about

(17,997 posts)I never heard of it though. I will check into how to contact
If there are not other suggestions that more people want, that's what we'll do
Thank you!

(34,589 posts)Each week he could start by addressing a single problem, stating the problem, how this problem was addressed in the past and/or in other coubtries, what he's tried to do to fix it, and what he would do as President to fix it.
Then take a question or two on the topic.
Then a compelling, call-to-arms summary and conclusion.

(17,997 posts)How do we do it?
MannyGoldstein
(34,589 posts)implementation less so.
I guess the first question is whether Bernie would cooperate with an effort? Potentially could work it through Tom Hartmann?
marym625
(17,997 posts)I wonder if we can just call Bernie.
I will try a few things on Monday. I think this is a great idea. If we can get him to do it, we can push the broadcast every week and still have a target media outlet besides
Thanks Manny!

(45,251 posts)The info used to be on his website, but someone apparently had the "bright" idea to take that down for a while, leaving only the options to sign up to join the campaign and/or to contribute.

(62,287 posts)Are you looking for negativity?
People are blowing stuff like this way out of proportion and even you think it's a "bright" idea. I think it's a minor oversight and not even going to be relevant in 10 days.
merrily
(45,251 posts)Are you looking for negativity?
No, I simply stated a fact ancillary to something I posted to Mannie about youtube, but you sure seem bent on wearing one sentence I posted to Manny to death in order to pretend I'm being negative. Yes, I think making most of the content on your website inaccessible during the first weeks after you announce is not a great idea, but it was one sentence posted to Manny. Why have you been obsessing over it?
joshcryer
(62,287 posts)To fix something people were saying was negative.
My view that it was an oversight (since the other pages have the footer) isn't negative like the "bright" idea that they intentionally deleted it or left it out.
I'm done with the negativity. Have at it.

(9,086 posts)To start reaching out to people who enjoy morning TV. I saw Calry Fiorina on the Today Show. So they should have Bernie on I think.
And not exactly what you are asking, but sort of related, Bernie is scheduled to take questions on Reddit on Tuesday May 19.

My question is about this.

Monday we start week 4
On a different thread people are suggesting the NYT. But no one has put it here yet.
I like the morning show idea. I will wait until Monday morning to see how many want what.
Thank you!

(62,287 posts)His first campaign event is not scheduled until May 27th, New England College, Concord, New Hampshire.
Don't let the lack of media get to you! He will have 8 town hall meetings or house parties in Iowa and New Hampshire between May 27 and May 30: http://gui.afsc.org/bernie-sanders
I too had been somewhat annoyed by the lack of media but it wasn't made aware to me that he wasn't kicking it off until the 26th (really the 27th where his main event will be, but you can expect some social media stuff on the 26th).
merrily
(45,251 posts)Bernie has said he is running as a Democrat. All we await on May 26 is his formal rollout. A number of the Republicans, perhaps most notably Jeb Bush, haven't even admitted they are running yet, but get far more coverage. Media is even calling Jeb the closest thing Republicans have to a frontrunner. So, the establishment wants another Clinton Bush Presidential race. Makes sense. It's the only either of them gets to get away from prior baggage, even a little.
joshcryer
(62,287 posts)The Republicans are doing campaign events without campaigning. When Sanders does a campaign event it will be an official campaign event. Jeb Bush has been doing weekly speeches at various Republican shill events (week before last some evangelicals at CLC, channeled archaic immigration policy, this past week at Liberty University, again channeling evangelicals).
The media may yet still ignore Sanders' campaign events, not appearances on news shows, but events with constituents, potential voters, in the caucus states. And there's no doubt that the media will want to bring about a horse race. I think Sanders has a chance and once it's seen that he has a lot of supporters they will be unable to ignore it.
Feels like poo-pooing Sanders' roll out to me when the thing hasn't actually started yet. It's not about formalities. The big campaign events don't start until then!

(62,287 posts)And it was a meet and greet: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=832095333512139
He raised millions and you and I both know the media covered that extensively: http://www.google.com/search?q=bernie+sanders+raises
Here's his event page: http://www.facebook.com/berniesanders/events
If Sanders does this and keeps it up the media will be unable to ignore him... this is setting up failure at its finest. *sigh*

(62,287 posts)The media will be unable to ignore Sanders' campaign as it builds up.

(45,251 posts)Seriously? That's your claim?
joshcryer
(62,287 posts)...
Done with the negativity. If I see it in future postings I will just point out how it's not my thing (and how it is wrong, as well, the media will not be able to ignore Sanders' campaign).
merrily
(45,251 posts)correct the situation, such as by contacting the NYT, posting on Facebook, etc. Not to mention that it's ludicrous to suggest that my posts in the Bernie Group will doom Bernie's campaign, no matter what they say.
You are the only one, besides bluestateguy, who tried to turn my post seeking activism on behalf of Bernie into a reason to attack me. Moreover, no one else found reasons why it was okay for media not to be covering him. However, at least bluestateguy had the grace to stop after one post.
And now, you want to pretend you're the one taking the high road? LOL, josh, LOL.
joshcryer
(62,287 posts)I gave a clear reason for people not to be concerned that the "media was not covering him." It was a positive and constructive post. All I got from then forward was personality conflict and insults.
merrily
(45,251 posts)Because you give a reason why you think it's okay he's not getting coverage, no one is supposed to act to get him more coverage?
What insults, josh?
joshcryer
(62,287 posts)In post 22 I say:
"Are you looking for negativity?" (Regarding an extremely minor thing on Sanders' site.)
In post 24 you say:
"you sure seem bent on wearing one sentence I posted to Manny to death"
It's not just about you, it's about everyone in that post I linked poo-pooing Sanders' site. There are a dozen people in that thread, including Sanders haters, who are making it out to be an issue. As you did in post [http://www.democraticunderground.com/12806640#post13|13] when you said, "someone apparently had the "bright" idea to take that down for a while." The entire thread and idea behind drips of negativity.
But I'm "bent on wearing one sentence," bent, you know, meaning, "not honest." An insult. I think it's damn negative, merrily. It's negative. Sorry if that makes you feel bad. Be positive!
In post 28 you claimed I "wasted your time." Time waster. You know, meaning, "a person who never succeeds : a person who is not successful, attractive, etc."
Lovely!
In post 30 you said, "at least bluestateguy had the grace to stop after one post." I'm graceless, right? Graceless, meaning, "awkward or clumsy, not kind or polite."
As if it's kind to let negativity flow over Sanders' campaign! BTW, I thought there was absolutely nothing graceful about bluestateguy's hit and run. I wonder if he knows that the Fairness Doctrine can be reimplemented without any legislation by the FCC? And that liberals would support it?
And now, I get this PM from you:
Mail Message
The purpose of the Bernie Sanders Group is not for you or anyone else to find fault with any poster, including, but not limited to me, or any poster's posting style.
Stick to substance and don't derail threads by carrying over grudges you may have from GD.
I look forward to your more constructive contributions to the group.
sincerely, merrily, qua host of the Bernie Sanders Group.
Let it be shown that you called me "bent," "graceless," and a "time waster."
While I only called out against negativity.
Thanks for the warning. I hope that the other hosts take the exchange into advisement.

My reply 17 contained nothing personal. Your reply to that, however (your #18) , accused me of pooh poohing the Sanders roll out, when I had done no such thing. I had simply said the lack of a formal rollout did not excuse light media coverage. My reply to your post 18 still said nothing personal to you. In your next post, however, you accused me of ensuring failure of the campaign or some similar wild thing.
My choice seems to be to allow you make one bizarre claim about me after another, without responding to them at all, or to respond and thereby become party with you in derailing a thread whose purpose it was to get media suggestions. That is exactly the kind of choice no one should have to make in a safe haven group.
At this point, I will leave this here.
joshcryer
(62,287 posts)Not about you personally.
I stand by the idea that gross negativity is setting us up for failure. And I see nothing insulting about calling for positivity.
