Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumWe really need to set up a dialog with blm-or else Westlake will just keep happening.
It looks as though they are still singling Bernie out and I think the only way to stop that is to just have Bernie meet with them and listen to what they want.
In the meantime, I hope to good they have better stage security at tonight's rally.

(50,254 posts)If nothing else, there is a need to find out if this can be settled, or if blm is just fixated on the idea that nothing they want can happen unless Bernie is driven out of the presidential race entirely.

It looks like the apology is NOT from a blm itself?
Is the Bernie Sanders 1016 tweeter from his campaign, or?
I'm confused and dismayed.

As a Latina, I certainly don't see Hillary as an ally, I think she just sees me as a vote.

I could easily claim affiliation with any group I chose to under similar circumstances and create a certain level of havoc. If my actions served to help discredit not only a candidate but a potentially critical voting bloc as well, I'd view that as quite a bonus.

(20,185 posts)Some people do not like or trust Jewish people, and some of those people who don't like Jews are African Americans. Could that be why BLM seems to be singling out Bernie for their protests?
I'm not really following HRC's campaign much, but isn't she still just doing fundraisers? I'm curious to see if BLM protests at her rallies. You know, the ones you get into for free.

(6,604 posts)of the numerous threads around here that touch on BLM, but my impression so far is that any mention of the movement seems to treat it as a monolith, insofar as any comments or actions by an individual or group claiming affiliation with it are reflexively accepted as representative or typical of it.
One couldn't ask for a handier (or sharper) political wedge, and someone's clearly happy to hammer away at it.
We simply don't really know. Anybody can say they're them.

(6,592 posts)We are discussing this as if we knew exactly who BLM is in general. We don't. We just don't. The best we can do at this point is identify individuals.

Watch the video in this link. Near the end the announcer says that the protesters were asked to say something, but would only produce obscene gestures.

It also looks like the Black Lives Seattle FB site has a mirror site, which was started just yesterday and is fake:
This BLM Seattle group has hijacked the genuine group. Go to the authentic BLM Seattle page. They issued an apology for what happened. There is nothing more idiotic than going against one's own best interests.

Something fishy is going on here!
On edit, this is what is being shown on what was until recently, claimed as the real Black Lives Matter fb page:
To everyone who visits this page, it will be deleted affective immediately. I am 16 and I started this page to raise awareness about this cause. I am not officially associated with BLM. I recant the apology I made that was not at all associated with what happened. I am sorry for the confusion. But please, please don't stop supporting Black Lives Matter!! I will still believe in them and I hope that you will too!! #?StayWoke everyone.

(16,685 posts)Like other people have stated it's a very loosely knit organization that anyone can say they are representing. The goal, for some at least, appears to be disruption only. And some political factions are more than happy to stoke it. In the meantime black people continue to die while some people use their lives as political pawns.
djean111
(14,255 posts)You don't know. You also don't know that they want to meet with him, or if they just want to dictate their terms for his campaign platform. You don't know any of that.
And their purpose at this point is disruption in order to bring their plight to the public at large. And, I think, to re-shape Bernie's campaign. Or just get rid of Bernie, as a show of strength. If they do that, then they may, to use an old and worn out guilt trip - they just may be saying hello to a president who does not give a shit, or will double down on policing.
It is working, but I don't think it is to their benefit at this point. And I think some are just having a great time screaming.
SusanCalvin
(6,592 posts)I do wonder about that, with a hash tag like #BowDownBernie. I don't approve of anyone "bowing down" to anyone, and I look askance at people, any people, who come right out and say that's what they want.
I also think those two women looked rather silly (yes, I'm fully aware the cause is far from silly, but I'm stating what I saw in the video), carrying on as if they were being silenced (at this particular time) when, according to the TV news story linked upthread, they were actually allowed to speak for about 15 minutes.
And then they wouldn't speak to the reporter, although they may know something about the politics of that station that I don't. I'm sure there are a lot of things about Seattle's local politics that I don't know. All I can go on is what I see and hear on teh intertubes.

As they go thru these Bernie shoutdowns, how many more Blacks have been murdered?
Why doesn't Bernie go straight to the people that can do something NOW, Obama and Lynch. Send Senate letters to both and get something back in writing to begin this process. Try to set-up meetings with Lynch and Obama so if BLM are legit they now have the access they need.
How does BLM protest that?
