Atheists & Agnostics

if for no other reason than We are US and THEY ARE THEM.
I mean, one of the most prolific atheist-hating posters (who you know has a google news alert set for "stories about waffling atheists who found that they *do* accept Jesus Christ as their lord and saviour" is 1 post away from a 90-day time out. Another Idahoan Pepper Farmer is out until Feb or March (if memory serves). Both boat-legged pals have hides on their records, and our "calling Native Americans "Squaws" and "savages" is a compliment! And a scientific one at that!!" is one away from a mandatory vacation as well.
The hosting kerfluffle vote didn't go as planned (oh! me and my revisionist history---it was the A/A posters who wanted to replace he who just stepped down. The Kewl Kidz Krewe supported no host, or just RD ALL ALONG SO STOP SAYING OTHERWISE).
They are doubling down, and alerting anything that is posted. Allies who read but don't post are kind enough to have sent us the failed jury alerts.
Be aware, they will LIE in their alerts about our posts. OUTRIGHT LIE.
Remember, we are posing in a safe-haven, but anyone can come, read, and alert.
There are places where the discussion continues, outside of the bounds of alerting and net-nannying. I encourage anyone who is interested to seek out those who may know about such things.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Whining about DU, call-outs, uncivil group warfare.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Dec 28, 2014, 02:39 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerter: you just made the poster's point. Sigh.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I'm against demonstrating, but I don't know how to show it.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alert stalking.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: kind of over the top call outs
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is suppose to be safe haven for atheists. If the alerter is offended, maybe they should not visit here.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given

That alert proved the point I was making more clearly than I ever could have.

(20,805 posts)There really ought to be some sort of system to deal with this kind is blatant alert-trolling.... transparency would be a bloody good start, after all, isn't the highly vaunted American justice system based on the right to confront one's accuser(s)?
That might put an end to this non-stop, tit-for-tat, harassment quite quickly.

(112,755 posts)on this point I agree. The identity of the alerter should be included within the alert so that if there is any discernible trend the poster can take it up with Admin. Maybe it would tamp down some of the alert abusers.
I also believe that a poster should only receive only one demerit per thread. More than one post within a thread can be hidden because occasionally someone will rattle off a sequence of hidable posts, but only one counts towards the poster's record.

(18,312 posts)they can't post, because they're disruptive assholes, but they can alert.
which seems to be a real *fucking* loss of logic. You repeatedly break the rules and get 5 posts hidden and so we have to give you a mandatory time out until the oldest of your hidden posts is 90 days old, so that way you can think about what an asshole you were to other posters to get 5 posts hidden, but please, go ahead and vote on whether other posts break the rules or are disruptive

(111,480 posts)and that means we might threaten their fantasy lives and it certainly means we're going to be harder to control by those who use religious orthodoxy as a weapon.
Feminists have the same target and for the same reason in the same sort of protected haven group.
While people who are not members of a protected group can alert, we will have this problem. The rules might not be particularly flouted here, but they all think they can get lucky with a jury. Sadly, they do get lucky sometimes. My own hide on DU3 was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen, a poutrage troll just got lucky with 4 cranks on that jury.
I wouldn't mind an occasional hide that was worth it, but people who troll protected groups are incapable of waiting for that. Our rejection of orthodoxy is enough for them.

(17,505 posts)I'll never forget that my post pointing out that a poster had just made a lame joke that insinuated I grope my clients when I take their inseam measurement (I make clothes) was homophobic, made him a homophobe, was hidden because I called him a homophobe..... not the post that suggested I grope my clients. It just proved beyond doubt that the alert system is a joke not to be worried about. (I still think he alerted mainly because I also suggested no one ever listened to what he said.)
It's just a message board.
The armchair psychologists really suck here.
And many cannot read what is written. Sometimes I wonder if they just don't understand the words I am using!

(1,589 posts)more to the point, this 'jury system' that DU implemented a while ago is seriously flawed. Giving regular folk the power to censor - and if you cant admit this is censorship, you dont belong in the conversation - will always go bad.
to wit - "this guy is almost a 90 day suspension" (code for alert him if you can [I feel stupid even saying 'alert'])
you think _anywhere_ on the web is a safe haven? foolish.
anyone who is making public announcements about 'hides' and 'alerts' should take a deep breather and probably take 3 months off DU

(10,418 posts)There are too many petty squabblers obfuscating the issues to be able talk about and think about things deeply.
I mostly post in the lounge because I think it's fun and I have a lot of friends there. I read other forums and groups but rarely post there. I find that when I do step outside of my usual forums and groups I am often met with resistance. It doesn't seem to matter what is said a lot of the time on here. Just the act of saying something (anything) is enough for people to start fucking with you. I'm not a paranoid person, and it seems to me that many people who post on this site are just here to tear it down.

(33,982 posts)What kind of asshole trolls through another safe haven, clicking alert just to harass people?
Major Nikon
(36,828 posts)Good question. For whatever reason there seems to be no shortage of them. It's the kind of asshole that wants to spread their misery and malcontentedness to everyone else, and they have found the tool to do so. I think it also satisfies their desire for the deceit and manipulation of others. A successful alert gives them a short rush of enjoyment they have trouble finding anywhere else.

(49,533 posts)Clearly their hatred isn't about behavior, since they embrace nasty bigots who insult women ("they should buy their rubbers at 7-11" , homosexuals ("what if I want to marry my hamster?" , Native Americans ("savages" .
As one serial alerter put it, they think atheists would just "go back" to hating women, gays, etc. if religion was eliminated. In other words, they hate us for what they THINK we are, not what we actually are. Which of course is prejudice.
