Two more platforms have suspended Gab in the wake of Pittsburgh shooting
Source: The Verge
Hours after Paypal confirmed that it had suspended social network platform Gab, two additional companies have informed the site that they plan to suspend their services: payment processing site Stripe, and cloud hosting company Joyent.
Last night, Gab posted a screenshot of a notification from Joyent, which says that it received notice of breach of the Joyent Terms of Service, and that it would suspend the site as of 9:00AM ET on Monday, October 29th. Gab says that it will likely be down for weeks because of this, and that it is working on a solution.

Later that evening, Gab posted a second notification: Stripe says that it has suspended the sites account while it conducts an investigation, saying that Gab has not provided us sufficient evidence that Gab actually prevents violations of our policies in your Gab Pro service, or any other portion of your service that relies on Stripe for monetization. Stripe estimates that its investigation conclude within a week.

I'll count this as a small amount of good news.

(1,376 posts)When their business is more trouble than it's worth, they will get shut down.
Capitalism is like that, which suggests the obvious strategy for those who don't care for the Gabs of the world.

(14,764 posts)They will just pop up in a new spot and be every bit as irritating.
New shell corp, maybe new directors, lines of credit, etc. All the user account info will be "purchased" and invitations sent.
Small hiccup. The beat goes on (pun intended).

(1,376 posts)Yeah, but they still need the hosting service, infrastructure, etc, and god knows, they aren't smart enough to build any of it themselves.
All these little wannabee klansmen have an Achilles heel; none of them are bright enough to get a job and compete.

The CEO of Gab is again talking about loving free speech.
Reporters who are new to this site should know that he's called for the mass doxxing of reporters as revenge for negative coverage. He's also posted on Gab about teaching children to "hate" journalists.

His insanity is even more apparent when you read the entire thread around that facebook page... Seemed like a rather rational and fair exchange of thoughts https://www.facebook.com/garry/posts/10102671732962523?pnref=story

There are so many platforms I don't know about. I went to one recently (can't recall its name) and amazed at the ugliness.

The account's final post referred to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, which works to resettle refugees in the United States: "HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I cant sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, Im going in.
Hours later, 11 people lay dead.
