Yes he is an asshole republican. However He's not insane and you could have a conversation with him I think. He's sick of trying to reign in the tea-bag crowd.

tea-baggers are nutty flame throwers, insane ideologues who don't care if the economy collapses or not.

Ryan is an ideologue as well with lots of similarities to the teabags, but he has finely crafted crafted persona that makes him appear sane when he is just as crazy as the baggers. Also pushes idea he is a smart policy wonk, but he isn't. "Liberal" media seems to buy into it/
