Her given name was Mary Ann, she was a small business owner in Penn.
She posted often about the mortgage fraud, was very knowledgeable, and had emailed me a lot of valuable info.on the subject.
One of her happys was suing illegal robocall people, she used the Consumer Protection Act against them, and invariably won!
Very very smart lady. Wickedly funny, too.
She was a very proud grandmother for the first time, and sent pictures over the months of her grandbaby.
Last Sept. one of my emails to her was returned with a message from her son that she had suffered a very very serious stroke,
he was quite shaken and prospects did not look good for her.
I have not heard from the family since.
I do miss her a lot.

(14,691 posts)a co-worker ended up in the hospital for a couple months and then rehab. I had a stroke several years ago and got off very very easily. There is a window of about 3 hours after a stroke in which they can give an injection of some substance that can mitigate the damage. I blew past that window by over 24 hours. As a result I have some relatively minor, but permanent, residuals on one side. It could have been much worse - my doctor said it was caused by a tiny clot in a tiny blood vessel but in my brain stem.
The point of this post is - it doesn't take a big clog of gunk to cause a stroke. Watch your diet and exercise.

woke up and my left side was GONE...
I had a inch long "oopsie"..and fully recovered..whew !!
It happened while I was asleep..
So now I take my 325 aspirin and my statin..and hope I will not repeat the "event"..

(14,691 posts)I woke up, got up and fell over. Although I was aware of stroke symptoms, when it actually happened to me I was just "what the fuck" I couldn't walk without bumping into everything. Balance was completly kaput. Then I was concerned they'd be mad at me at work for calling in sick the day before Christmas. (!!) But I obviously wasn't going anywhere.

(103,856 posts)Lucky for me, I was able to make it to the bathroom somehow before I peed my britches...I normally would have slept for 3 more hours..
That's about how long it took for my arm & leg to come back (at the hospital)... for my arm & leg to come back.. I may not have ever even known I had had a stroke
LiberalElite
(14,691 posts)that injection? There's about a three hour window after the stroke in which it'll mitigate the damage. I blew past that deadline by about 36 hours.
SoCalDem
(103,856 posts)and since my stroke was not a hemorrhagic one, it turns out that the injection could have caused a bleed..
LiberalElite
(14,691 posts)mine wasn't hemorrhagic either but I showed up in the E.R. way too late.
SoCalDem
(103,856 posts)when the stroke happened , and in some cases it could cause bleeding.. It scared me, even though I was miffed that they might be withholding something that I might have needed..
The whole episode was frightening though, because when the use of my left side came back it left again twice more before it came back & stayed....
It was like someone was flipping a switch..and I just hoped that the last flip was my way

(19,676 posts)I didn't know her, but I read through some of her postings from a thread linked here. She was smart as a whip, and any person who sued those vile robocall people would have been a hero of mine.

(60,037 posts)but had such a lovely victory giggle about it.
She was the only other person besides me that I knew would do this.
even when I was overwhelmed by all the mortgage details, she would carry on, poking at the beasts.
She had 2 lawsuits going with her mortgage bank.
I guess they are moot now.

(62,325 posts)after one of my friends lost her home illegally. She was a fountain of information and so willing to share it.
I hadn't seen her for a while but assumed she was just busy.
This is such sad news!

and I have had nothing from her since.

(62,325 posts)She really was a fountain of information on the subject, and she was very feisty, so I'm not surprised to learn that she went after robo callers. Wish I had had a chance to talk to her about that also.
I miss her and feel so sad to hear she is no longer with us!

(8,554 posts)and maybe you'll hear from Mary Ann soon. Thanks for letting us know about her, it's so sad when some of us simply drop quietly away and DUers are only left to wonder (or worse, few of us even notice that they're missing). I'm still worrying about where Uncle Joe got to.
Peace for Mary Ann and a hug for you
Here are a few useful links, in honor of the tenacious ms.smiler. I think I might file a complaint this week on a particularly obnoxious robo-caller, in memory of Mary Ann:

(17,656 posts)I don't remember seeing her nickname, but that doesn't mean she wasn't important here.
Sadly, a lot of the old familiar names are no longer here.
I try to limit my time here more now because of it.
At times like this, I always remember what the Wizard said to the Tin Man --
A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.
I hope that she knew how you, and many others at DU felt about her, and loved her.
Peace.
