Some of you may remember this thread from a few weeks ago
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6292750
I'm her niece and I just wanted to share that she passed away this morning. She was with family and according to my uncle, she went very peacefully. I am heartbroken. She was the most beautiful, grande dame, queen bee, diva of all things in this world. She adored her grandchildren, was so proud of her kids and was a hoot and a half to be around. Please keep her husband, son, daughter, and her precious grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers. Please know that she LOVED being on DU. Absolutely LOVED this place, flaws and all. Thank you all for your friendship.
The Great Beyond has gained the BEST beauty queen ever. Love you so much, Aunt Em.

(3,580 posts)Very sorry for your loss. I haven't been here long but I liked her.
My husband died 3 weeks after his diagnosis. It was fast but he had time to say good by. He felt he was transitioning to another place. He told me everyday the room kept filling up with more people most he didn't know. The day before he died he said there were so many people and he was going with them. He was happy and ready to go. He had already detached from this world. He kept saying this is going to be spectacular.
When I read the post from your aunt about her illness I hoped if people she didn't know showed up for her that my husband was one of them.

(1 post)Thank you all for the wonderful messages of support for my family as we grieve the loss of my mom, known to all of you as FLYellowDog.
She loved loved LOVED DU and all of you so much...so often I'd lurk on the forums and read in awe her skill with words, logic and reason. But mostly - it's her humor I will miss.
Today, while going through her important papers, I found copies of all of her identification cards, loyalty cards, reward cards, etc. You'll all probably giggle to know her ACLU card (she LOVED telling folks she was a card-carrying member) was right next to her Big Lots loyalty card and her Sephora beauty products card. I couldn't help but laugh. That's so Queen Mother. And of course, everything was in a lovely three-ring binder labeled "Emily's Death Notebook." Where else would it be?
Her obituary is BRILLIANT - she wrote it several weeks ago, and of course insisted on reading it OUT LOUD to my brother and I last week while she was in hospice care. Who does that? FLYellowDog does of course. Once it's been published in the local papers, I'll share it here. It's going to cost us a blue ass fortune to have it printed because it's a recap of her entire life. From twirling a baton to "Dixie" in the Miss North Carolina pageant (she's always been a non-racist version of Suzanne Sugarbaker to me - and oh, remind me to tell you sometime about my mom WEARING HER CROWN to meet Delta Burke) to retelling funny stories about her grandangels, it's the most amazing thing you'll read this year.
Though I'm not active on this site, please know she (and my dad) taught me and my children well. We bleed blue through and through. From my 9 year old daughter whose two heroes are Martin Luther King, Jr and Abraham Lincoln to my 15 year old son who stands up to bullies in his school to my nearly 19 year old daughter who is QUITE vocal on all things democratic, we will do our best to make her proud.
Thank you again for being her friends and for providing her so much great conversation and laughs. Our family appreciates it more than you know.
