The online Colorado Sun launches today (from most of Denver Post fired journos/editors)

Last edited Mon Sep 10, 2018, 04:09 PM - Edit history (1)

Ok, ok, this won't have as much IMMEDIATE meaning for a lot of non-Coloradoans but I think it is an important movement that I'd like to see a lot of DUers support. There won't be a paywall, at least initially, so please give them some advert clicks.

Why is this important? After the loss of the right-leaning Rocky Mountain News in 2009, I think a lot of Coloradoans were sad at the loss, but relieved that the award-winning Denver Post remained strong. In March, current owners (a despicable HEDGE FUND) fired large numbers of key staff. Some of the remaining principle journalists, editors, managers put out a full page story which got national attention, knowing it would result in their forced departures as well (see below). Well, now, some of these courageous former DP staff have launched the online https://coloradosun.com It is due to launch sometime today (though I'd be patient if there is a delay)... Please give these folks some views over the next weeks/months. We NEED independent journalism EVERYWHERE, but no more than in a blue-moving former purple red state like my own.

Note: I haven't given up on the Denver Post. Though I HATE giving money to a hedge fund, I haven't given up on a wealthy investor who gives a damn about news and democracy coming though to buy it. But until then, help us maintain some independent investigative reporting in the West. Please!

Happy to send a little traffic to the new online Colorado Sun (see this post announcing its formation with alumns from the unfortunate purge at the Denver Post: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100211116966

https://coloradosun.com/2018/09/04/2018-races-to-watch-colorado/

What you need to know about the biggest races in Colorado this election cycle

Governor’s race: Democrat Jared Polis v. Republican Walker Stapleton
--snip--
Polis remains the presumptive front-runner as the deep-pocketed millionaire running in an election year that favors Democrats in a state that has elected one Republican governor since 1975.

WHAT TO WATCH: Both candidates start from a weak position, struggling to connect with voters and answer questions about how they will actually accomplish (and pay for) their priorities if elected. The candidates can do better, or the campaigns can go negative and turn the races into a lesser-of-two-evils scenario.
