Just wondering who is still here, posting or reading.
Edited on Sun Dec-11-11 08:30 PM by texanwitch
I am going to stay until the lights are turned off.

I didn't think anything was wrong with DU2 to begin with.

I have had to many deaths in my life in the last few years DU has always been there for me.

I will be there for DU2.

We need a good old fashion Wake, sit, talk, drink, eat a little and just hang out.

I will start, I will miss you DU2.

1. I'm till here.
Kinda linked this address to my opera speed dial. Think I may have to compare DU2 to Windows XP. and if XP is anything to look at, people still have no intention of switching.

I'll just sweep up over here till they turn the lights out.

26. You can change the VIEW settings over on DU3

from Standard to Classic. Classic has more of the old DU2 look to it.

Hope that helps.

didn't Skinner announce that there would be no more fund drives, but to have any influence we must now donate?

17. A tech savvy friend saved my Journal ...
... for me, complete with links to replies.

So it is do-able - I just don't know how it's done myself.

I read in the ATA forum that DU2 Journals will eventually be accessible through DU3. It's unfortunate that Skinner didn't "pin" the many responses to questions in ATA about such changes, so that all DUers would know what was going on.

I wonder if a tech savvy person could post a "saving journals for dummies" list of steps. ;)

I'm glad to hear that there are eventual plans; I DID look for that question, and found a bunch, but none with a clear answer.

I am trying to start using DU3, but given the fact that my mother (and best friend) was killed recently I am in a very precarious position at the moment with no help. I don't need any more upheaval in my life right now, even if it is a little thing like upheaval at DU.

So I will keep reading and posting here until the lights go out.

82. My heart goes out to you.
I lost a family member this summer after a long illness and a bad last two years. I am unable to allow the grief to come out much as it is too overwhelming and I just sit here at home alot and I admit I distract myself from dealing with anything by just going online alot. I know what you mean about not being able to handle anything else happening for awhile. I had an unexpected car accident too very recently and now I have to wonder what to pay for and not to pay for this month, and it is interesting I find it hard to really care that much about what happens next or what to do next.

I know how you feel.

34. I don't dislike new things either because they are new,
but the new DU3 to me just seems to be trying too hard to be like other message boards and link to social networking. To my tastes it just seems to be too smarmy forcing us into communities with hosts and juries and all that.

I can see cliques and bullying developing and those with an unpopular viewpoint will get forced out or be silenced.

40. The most favorite comment I saw by a fellow DU'er about
The new version is that it carefully followed the number one rule for website creation -

If it ain't broken, then break it!

Had to laugh - I hung out a lot in Silicon Valley back in the days when Apple was getting off the ground, Atari provided the first gaming stuff for personal computers. And that rule got followed often then too.

When contacting admins, be sure to use their emails (for all 3 of them) rather than simply PM'ing Skinner.

Don't PM from DU2 because it is officially "obsolete" and no longer supported by the admins; they probably won't even read their DU2 PMs!

What I was trying to say was, use regular email instead of DU PMs:

55. I'm always the last one to leave a party! DU3 format literally stabs my eyeballs.
So, I'll be here until this place no longer functions.

Not only does the new site give me a major migraine, it is byzantine beyond belief.

And, oh, the whole 'juries/blacklist/host free-for-all' is a serious clusterfuck.

Occupy DU2

61. The design is crazy
The new blue color hurts my eyes, or the font.

A little goes a long way, this is true in web design.

I wonder how long the jury/host thing will last.

I will be checking DU3 to find out, just for fun.

57. I guess this is as good a place as any to raise a final glass in tribute!
DU2 we hardly knew ye!:toast:

Seems like we ought to have a bagpiper playing "Amazing Grace" or "Danny Boy." Something appropriate for a wake.

I really feel like a good cry right now!

71. Thank you for posting this!
My late sweetheart, Jeanne, disliked "Amazing Grace", especially the line about "saved a wretch like me." She was very devout; but, she said that wasn't her image of God and our relation to Him. I agreed (I'm not really conventionally religious); but, I know it's a beautiful melody that's given so much comfort to so many people.

"Danny Boy" was the tune played by a bagpiper as Jeanne's brother Tony was carried to his final rest.

There was a jazz combo, with a saxophone and drum at Jeanne's graveside; she so loved jazz and blues.

I think you can see, Jeanne and Tony were both special people. I hope they're in a place where the best musicians play!

81. got to take it into context
the "save a wretch like me"--the hymn was written by a man who was a captain of a slave ship who had an epiphany of his cruel wrongdoing to other humans. Spent the rest of his life in atonement.

Started in 2002 and I'll be dragged kicking and screaming from this place.

But of course, I'll still go.

70. Some of us began that wake during the wee hours of the morning, already...
I sat up all night last night, copying and collecting private messages (mostly from a bunch of DUers who are no longer with us), bawling over their untimely passings and laughing at some of the hilarious exchanges I'd had with them, whilst at the same time keeping up with the party happening on General Discussion. I still want to get some of my oft-used Bookmarks out of here, for future reference, and also the links to many of my favorite DUers Journal entries. It hasn't been stated clearly yet, over on DU3, whether or not all of those hard-researched topics will remain accessible to us or not, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Anyway, I've been up all day, too, and currently have my eyeballs propped open with toothpicks, but hope to be able to finally sign off of here knowing that nothing of value has been left to fade away under the footprints of progress.

Did I hear bagpipes?

I was a little sad today thinking about this site going away.

It was fun while it lasted.

Lots of good people here.

92. DU3 is the "monetized" version of DU
I'm not into it myself, but maybe it's fine for casual users who have jobs and cash on hand to pay for its expensive usage fees.

I didn't make it even a full day at DU3 before I said fuck it. Too totalitarian for me. One "host" can lock a thread, then no one else can unlock it. At least here, mods had to reach some sort of consensus.

97. I'm still here because I just by habit clicked on my saved GD tab on the laptop
which is where I always start and voila! It took me here!!

I haven't had much chance to get to DU3 - been too busy this past weekend but since DU2 is still trundling along, I think I'll stay awhile and make the transition slower.

:toast:  Party on for those of us who always stay til last call!
